For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Bit scared of this unhealthy thread title. Feel I should be in disguise.

BBBee · 10/08/2007 07:45

oh - have got over my premenstrual rantings. Still feel bloated and horrible but think it is guilt at ice cream and fish and chips on holiday.

Had a meal with my aunt - she has this bowl of salad stuff in her fridge all the time and gets it out every meal (well not breakfast) and she says it makes her eat a lot more. Such a simple idea but a good one. The cucumber is not cut up, few spring onions, nice tomaotes and a lettuce head. She says she tries to have helf her plate with salad stuff every meal.

Well a bit of stating the bleeding obvious but I know I am in desperate need of help!

I am off to europa park next tuesday - dp is still highly suspious of a 'prize' from 'mumsnet' but he is suspious if i get the wrong kind of coffee.

The nectarines I bought in sainsburys a week ago are finally edible.

am going to make sushi today - dcs eat it like sweets!

BadTemperedPossum · 10/08/2007 07:53

PinkSpottyWellies, if your DD is 9 months then you count as a weirdy extended breast feeder in some circles, meaning I presume that we put our pants on our head and strum a guitar every time we start to feed.
I manage to be quite discreet b/feeding in public but if DS is enjoying his feed he makes a eeee-er eee-er eeee-er noise - like Jimmy Savill delving into the armrest of his chair - and everyone stares, even though he (DS, not JimmySavill), is bald and still very baby like.
I have nothing in the firdge. I need to get organised.

MrsCarrot · 10/08/2007 08:39

BBB I LOVE sushi, especially the vegi one from pret! I always bring it home and use tamari instead of soy though. Lo ate a piece, well, sucked a piece the other day, he loved it, they're quite good finger foods aren't they? DD always used to steal the salmon off my fish ones. I'm rubbish at making it though. Maybe I'll try today, there's prob some salt in bought ones that lo shouldn't have.

I always have a large bowl of half cucumber, bit and pieces of salad stuff in the fridge, makes it easier to chop things from. Then they can always have sugar snaps, carrots, peppers etc with their sandwiches too.

Off for my blood test now, thank god back to normal eating, I feel sort of crawly inside.

BBBee · 10/08/2007 08:43

good luck with blood test mrsC. I was crap at sushi but then my friend taught me - she is japanese chef and it is all in the technique. If we ever have a meet up I will show you (yeah - like that is going to be easy and doable!)

BadTemperedPossum · 10/08/2007 09:03

Mrs C, good luck with the test, feeling "crawly inside" does not sound good
BBB - bleurghhhh at idea of b/feeding JS, thank God there is no food in my fridge or I'd have thrown it up by now.
DS just SOUNDS like JS, just as loud, extraordinary from such a small form, I suppose such vocalization of enjoyment is socialized out of us, otherwise when I eat yummy vegetables I'd be going 'eeee-er eeee-er eeee-er'.
Speaking of said yummy veggies, must procure. I am bad tempered because my diet is dreadful and my blood sugar levels are bouncing off the walls.

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 09:10

Eaten some grapes and loads of dried fruit (all there is in the house)

I have a book called how to wrap eggs which is beautiful...to make everyday things a subtle pleasure must bring great happiness

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 09:26

Dp makes decent sushi although not as pretty as the real deal

Ds is obsessed with that Pret vegetarian sushi and is determined to eat lots in London this weekend.

i think how to wrap five eggs/how to wrap five more eggs must be out of print.I just tried to find one online.strikes me as somewhat suited for folks on this thread

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 09:33

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 09:39

sorry if my email is being funny, I have got some others today which were sent this morning so it isn't seized up entirely

Greensleeves · 10/08/2007 09:41

When I was at uni there was a weird bloke who actually labelled his eggs 1-6 with a marker pen when he put them in the shared fridge

so we had to tinker with them, obviously, it would have been rude not to wouldn't it?

IIRC egg #1 was hard-boiled and then re-marked and replaced in the fridge, egg #2 was injected with ink, egg #3 had a zany face painted on it, egg #4 was coated in superglue....can't remember the other two.

Happy days

zippitippitoes · 10/08/2007 09:42

natural materials..in japan warpping is an art

MrsCarrot · 10/08/2007 09:49

Oooh, Franny, I think your ds and I would get on well, that's my favourite. I must have some today.

Had blood test, should know in a few days.

Greensleeves · 10/08/2007 09:54

FRANNY......I sent you another (one-line) email a few minutes ago, id you get it? I got yours this morning.

zippitippitoes · 10/08/2007 09:55

a little japanese culture

TooTicky · 10/08/2007 10:28

We had sushi from a train station yesterday. It was v. yum. I have made it in the past but it is so time-consuming. I have a gorgeous book of vegetarian Japanese cookery.

Holiday was great - lots of space and sand and sea and NO TELLY!
Have lots of washing to do now and v. little sensible food and my goodness the veggie patch needs attention - my poor swedes are quite overgrown.

Also, dcs are likely to decide only at the last minute exactly what they want to dress up as for village fete tomorrow.

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 11:28

nope no emails from the Greenster

other ones are getting through ok

Now how are you all over here?

Do I need to read the thread? Has it been knitting and charm this week or illness and despair?

ahundredtimes · 10/08/2007 11:47

I swooped down a bit, but got overwhelmed by Franny and Greeny's incredible emailing trauma.

Why is Mrs C having blood tests?

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2007 11:50

sarky beggar

They are testing for coeliac wotsit

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 10/08/2007 11:54

Oh no. Poor Mrs C, but I thought she'd cut all wheat out already?

lol @ discussing Mrs C's health, like a couple of old dears in the queue at the post office. I'm nodding and shifting my bosoms about like Les Dawson.

Shall I read Franny? Can't you give me a quick potted readers guide to 10/10 this week?
