For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

right off to look at map!

pinkspottywellies · 03/08/2007 23:25

100x are you still awake?! Only half an hour to go...

ahundredtimes · 03/08/2007 23:26

lol. Yes, still here. God, I hope they won't be later than that. I hope they don't think I'm going to talk to them. I'm going to say HOW NICE and HERE'S YOUR ROOM and SEE YOU IN THE MORNING.

ahundredtimes · 03/08/2007 23:29

I'm telling BB about Europapark, and she's listening nicely but secretly planning to meet Boco over here.

I've got attached to Europapark now. I think she's going to have a ball.

Boco · 03/08/2007 23:30

I think if i was going to stay with friends and they opened the door and shouted 'HOW NICE' i'd probably be relieved to be shown to my room asap.

So yes, that's a good opener.

ahundredtimes · 03/08/2007 23:34

LOL. I will have wide-staring eyes and will embrace them too tightly. Then dh will sweep.

They'll be up the stairs in no time.

I wish they'd hurry up.

BBBee · 03/08/2007 23:42

put a nighty and curlers on to greet them.

Why are they arriving so late - haven't read rest of the thread.

Do you know boco it just might work - would be Monday lunchtimish -what so you think?

Boco · 03/08/2007 23:49

BBB i'll be here - always. We could have a picnic at the castle?

Boco · 03/08/2007 23:51

i'll be here always is just a reference to the fact that i still can't drive and can't therefore leave this village, - i'm not gushing in a sentimental fashion or anything. That'd be off-putting and peculiar.

ahundredtimes · 03/08/2007 23:52

They are driving up from Cornwall and stopping here en route to London.

I adore them. I'm so happy they are coming to stay, but am tired that's all.

Ten minutes to go.

ahundredtimes · 03/08/2007 23:53

Oh no don't say that Boco. I liked the way you told BB you'd always be there for her. Was touching.

ooh I hear a car.

Boco · 03/08/2007 23:54

HOW NICE!

hehehe

BBBee · 04/08/2007 00:16

from map very do-able, picnic at castle would be lovely.

am glad you clarified the gushing sentiment.

more soon - is late and I am tired.

oh ate loads of apples and raw carrot on picnic and Japanese supper - oh so healthy.

franny have found forest school contact near me after all - outdoor course has been wonderful - we have done:

pond dipping
insect identification
building habitat piles
campfire
scavenger hunt
orienteering
whittling

and general outdoorsy fun. It is near me and you sign up for the week and has a very simple system of three activites a day - very calm and serene. Have been going for a week in the summer for three years now. dc's adore it.

FrannyandZooey · 04/08/2007 07:57

oh god oh god BBB that sounds marvellous

if you are still speaking to me next year will you tell me about it and we can come and camp in HC's garden or something?

This is my thread [staunch] (well kind of) and I will talk about birds if I want to. It relaxes me and stops me thinking about having to entertain 3 wild boys in a pub garden later.

100 did you shout "HOW NICE"? What did their faces look like?

filthymindedvixen · 04/08/2007 11:29

how is it possible for you all to be such night-owls? And do so uch exercese and F and V? This thread always gets v chatty and fun at nights

BBBee · 04/08/2007 12:32

one thing we did on the outdoot course that was wonderful and easy and would be good to do in any woodland / beach was a scavenger hunt.

the woman made these sheets with a big picture of a flower / caterpillar and in each body part was some double sided sticky tape and something to find.

There were straaight forward ones (6 small stones, snail shell, 4 different kinds of grass, 2 pink petals etc) and a 'fantasy' one (a hat for an elf, a blanket for a mouse, a wand etc) and one where you didn't stick the things on but you had to show them to an adult (a wizards chair, the 3 bear's door, a pixie meeting place etc)

I know it all sopunds easy to make up and reading it through not that impressive but once it was on sheets and called a 'quest' the dc's loved it. The fantasy one was wonderful - culminating in my dd using her wand to cast spells for the wizard's chair and to make all the pixies happy.

Took a long time with lots of roaming around and chatting. It was wonderful.

BBBee · 04/08/2007 12:34

not ignoring you fmv - do like this thread very much and like it when it is lively as the whole of mumsnet is a bit overwhelming when you don't have lots of time to post on lots of threads.

'tis hard to catch up sometimes.

f&v intake?

we really need to increase ours - all in 'holiday' mode so peaking at about 4 a day!

FrannyandZooey · 04/08/2007 17:24

BBB I am being dim but I don't totally get the savenger hunt. It does sound completely superb. Did each child have a sheet or was it collaborative? And what were the things like the mouse's blanket and the wizard's chair?

Have had super day of joy. My sports group and even the session at the pub went so well and I was in that lovely state where you feel really satisfied and know that you have done a good job. (doesn't happen too often as I tend to pick holes in things I do)

Then we went to a very ramshackle animal sanctuary near us where the animals just kind of wander around and there is a small but very pretty wood walk near a lake. To ds it was enormous as he kept circling back on himself and going round and round for about an hour. Then we convinced him to stay in one place for a bit, so we sat in a shady place and chatted while he floated things on thw water. Fabulous. Plus ticks the Nature Deficit box for the week, lionheart

Lastly we had tea in the tea shop which said "We recommend you eat inside the tea shop as the chickens do jump up on the tables." Snort.

sheet each.

Mouse's blanket could be a very soft leaf or some moss, a wizard's chair was a cut down log or tree stump - just getting them to use their imagination.

They stuck the things to the double sided tape and each displayed their completed hunt on the return.

DS saw a slow worm.

FrannyandZooey · 04/08/2007 19:49

Right, I see - the tape was there on the sheet with the sticky bit all ready? Is that how you spell it - I always thought sloe worm. What did it look like?

We saw (and fed) some naughty goats and some grumpy geese, pigs, rabbits, and a rat. The rat was a wild one and we had to sit very still for it to come out from under the tree roots.

Also saw lots of birds, including a Little Owl which scores 15 in my I Spy book of birds, but I won't mention it in case it upsets 100

This thread is lonely tonight

Come and look at the big tree we saw

and some photos of ds being heuristic on hay bales

Lovely pictures and the hovering child really does look as if he is levitating.

Amazing what exposure to nature can do.

The first thing I saw in the forest yesterday was a flipping chicken.

DS1 is asking about Harry Potter and I am pretending not to notice (ostrich).

That treasure hunt sounds wonderful.

Franny, I don't know if people usually admit to owning the book of which your speak.

lionheart · 04/08/2007 21:22

Excellent tree.

FrannyandZooey · 04/08/2007 21:23

Oh lawks

it is DS's book

honest

OP posts:
lionheart · 04/08/2007 21:35

Who is keeping the score then, Franny, who is actually quite competitive, although you wouldn't think so, hey?
