Just find it really hard to stop! I have if im honest with myself a problem i drink wine every night of the week which i know its bad for me but find it so hard not to! i made a point of stopping so many times i wouldnt mind if i actually enjoyed it anymore as i dont think i do i think its a habit i have got into and just cant get out of everytime i hear some statistics about alcohol abuse on news i cringe and blush and think god thats me> Last week i didnt buy any and got to wednesday and was okay monday and tuesday was like a bear with a sore head sop grumpy bad headaches etc! so then thursday my dp brought home 6 bottles of wine and i was so pissed off with myself as he said do you want some or are we waiting till the weekend? i was doin fine then he did that and i quite clearly have no willpower as we had a bottle with tea and together polished the rest off over the weekend !! so vowed not to drink the following week but just had a bad day with children and off i went to the shop!! im so mad at myself i just wondered if anyone else has as little willpower as me!!

I can do non-drinking. For quite a long time. But I can also do, oh boy can I do, drinking

wildwoman · 26/07/2007 15:28

I drink every night bosslady, I'm just the same, as soon as the bedtime stories are over it is officially me time which has to involve wine or I feel cheated
I stopped completely for 4 mnths once but then found myself on holiday in france and it just seemed such a waste not to drink....

bosslady - thats how i comfort myself. So long as there's half a bottle of vodka on the kitchen side that I've no urge to touch (its been with us for years. I think we've moved house with it twice. Does vodka go off?) I obviously haven't got a problem (ahem).

bosslady · 26/07/2007 15:30

i dont know i dont drink it but know what you mean

wildwoman · 26/07/2007 15:32

and the beauty of france is that absolute plonk tastes lovely out there, trouble is we have a tendancy to cart a few cases home with us and it tastes like paint stripper as soon as it touches english soil!

ladylush · 26/07/2007 15:33

I went to South of France three weeks ago and couldn't indulge as I was pregnant. I was so pissed off when we got back and I found out I'd had a missed miscarriage. I wanted to go back in time and go on a wine rampage

bosslady · 26/07/2007 15:33

I have had to resolve not to drink at all in the week - you're right, it does become a habit. I was drinking at least half a bottle a night and I thought "this has got to stop". I started to use it as a crutch when we were taking the council to tribunal & I was stressed. So now I have a general rule which is that I don't drink at all unless we are going out for a meal or at a social gathering.

I drink 2 litres of Evian every day and this seems to stop me craving alcohol. I feel so much better in myself when I don't drink - I sleep better, my skin looks better, etc.

Thing is, my family always drank a lot of alcohol so I grew up seeing that and thinking it was normal but now I can see that it isn't.

ladylush · 26/07/2007 15:35

Is she a recovering alcoholic?

bosslady · 26/07/2007 15:36

well after yor bad news ladylush i think a drink for you is well deserved!! sorry to hear that

OP posts:
ladylush · 26/07/2007 15:37

Well yes, but trouble is one can always find an excuse to argue that a glass is well deserved don'cha think

bosslady · 26/07/2007 15:38

my friends mum is yeah well my friend thinks she started again but she the sort of person that was hiding bottles of vodka in her car wardrobes etc and to look at her you would never believe it!

Oh dear how sad but at least when she gives you one of those you need to go to the AA looks you can dismiss her opinion as she's probably sozzled.

ladylush · 26/07/2007 15:43

Horrible weather - a glass of wine will cheer us up

wildwoman · 26/07/2007 15:44

Umm Duh?! It's the school holidays what more of an excuse do you need

collision · 26/07/2007 15:45

I used to be like you lot!! But I woke up with a sore head every morning even if I had only had a couple of glasses of wine.

The crunch came for me when I made a fool of myself at a friend's wedding (no kids with me!) and I gave up there and then.

I havent had a single glass of wine or any type of alcohol since 6 April this year.

The weird thing is that I dont miss it. A bottle can now last DH a week and I am saving a fortune!

I wasnt drinking loads but it was 5 out of 7 nights a week.

ladylush · 26/07/2007 15:49

I never get a sore head.

nogoes · 26/07/2007 16:01

We drink wine most nights and I have started to think that it is wrong too. When I was pregnant I gave up completely and found it really easy, I didn't even miss it but now when we have a night off I find it really hard to sleep. I am thinking it might be a good idea to have a rule that we only drink when we are socialising which is such a rarity for us these days.

SydneyB · 26/07/2007 16:11

Yup, same as other posts. But at the moment with the rain pissing down and being back at work and permanently knackered with absolutely zero social life I'm just gonna keep on downing that red!
