For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

thread too sodding long now

TooTicky · 10/07/2007 23:46

The only way to keep up with this thread is to check it at least twice a day.

TranquilaManana · 10/07/2007 23:53

was up all night with ds2 who was making scary breathing and coughing sounds.
and today have bounced from child trauma (he took my carrrrrrrr wailllllllll!!) to endless minor and major problems to do with the longest most complicated and splendidly cocked up building project in the universe.
i dont even want the house anymore.

so, keeping track of F&V has been a bit of a test. let alone the thread

but i do feel strangely comforted to be here, even if it is just to make spurious comments about rebel mc et al. tis like a MN within MN IYSWIM??

FrannyandZooey · 11/07/2007 07:35

100x I am sorry I didn't see the thread I don't think - I certainly didn't see you getting upset - are you alright?

Tranquila I love this thread too . Sorry to hear about building traumas.

SK enjoy your shuffling

TooT, PSW, and others, my food kind of went downhill yesterday as well. I felt really tired in the evening and just ate and ate and ate. Not terribly helpful.

Ulysees, ProjectIcarus and unknownrebel - IT WAS GREENY . Do you want to join us?

DS2 has chicken pox. Which is good, really, as he needed to get it, and we are not going away for ages. And his exclusion time from nursery is the next five days, so only three days really. (And I did two shifts already this week, so don't have any more scheduled for a couple of weeks.)

TranquilaManana · 11/07/2007 08:15

good luck with the CP. mine have all had it i think.
Piriton syrup.

BocoBeak · 11/07/2007 08:54

I missed that thread too 100x, will send you on the book when i've finished. It's scary having a sensitive worrier - school is not always a nice place to be.

My dd is ok today, (she's 5) but keeps making me promise i will never ever tell any of her friends that she had to wear a nappy last night.

DD2 (2) is really wheezy though - kept having to check on her all night as i could hear her breathing from my room. Sounds worryingly like asthma - really hope its not. Having had asthma attacks myself i tend to freak out a bit - kept sitting on her bed watching her chest last night. This morning she's bouncing about singing songs so decided not to take her to gp yet as he'll probably do that eyebrow raised dismissive thing.

Eating apricots.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/07/2007 09:24

I have medised, that should do, shouldn't it?

He's not unhappy at all, though, so I haven't drugged him. He's got lots of spots, though, and although they're not bugging him, he's in the bath with aveeno bath oil, which is really simple, and quite lovely, so hopefully will fend off any itching.

BocoBeak · 11/07/2007 09:35

The calamine cream is good - better than the runny lotion. Sorry if anyone has already said that. My dds didn't find it too itchy - and were full of energy, just spotty.

3andnomore · 11/07/2007 10:05

Boco, your poor dd, hope she is feeling better soon, and hope you have a really nice Funday together.
SauerKraut, lol @ the shuffling...you really do put images in my head with the way you write, lol....
BBBee....also sorry for your daughter, must have been dreadful.
Tranquila, sounds a right mare teh Housebusiness. I am sure it will all be worth it in the end.
NQC, medised is good, obviously piriton is a bit stronger on the Antihistamin front for the itching....bicarb of soda in the abth is meant to help against the itching and of course calamine lotion or cream (cream is easier I suppose) . Also a good idea to get the fingernails as short and blunt as possible, or if itching is really bad, put mittens over.

Anyways so far had a Smmoothie with 3 Bananas and a big handful of Blueberries and Pinenuts... (do nut count in somewhere in the F&V...can't remember now...)
Also done 50 minutes exercise (got the Vicky Entwistle DVD and it's really good)

Lullabyloo · 11/07/2007 12:20

sorry to hear about all the poorly lo's

ds had measles last month...no fun at all

dont know what happened this morning but ds & I didn't wake until 9.10!!!

lunch is sushi

3andnomore · 11/07/2007 12:36

JUst had 2 figs...won't be btoehring with those anymore....they didn't really taste of much...hmmm...also had a nectarine, 2 peaches and a big bunch of grapes.

TooTicky · 11/07/2007 13:11

Good luck to all the spotty ones!

LL, squash bread? Tell me more please.
Oh, dd1 didn't have a chance to think about playmobil yesterday but she will be back on Friday. Sorry to keep you hanging about. Ds2 doesn't want to sell his farm btw - quite nice really as I don't want him growing up too quickly.

TranquilaManana · 11/07/2007 13:49

have eaten...

a packet of choc brazil nuts.

NQC - if he seems happy enough i shouldnt bother. seems to affect some of them differently doesnt it? ds2 was miserable as sin and the piriton sorted him right out... but i know of other dc whove had it and not been bothered at all. hope he continues to get through it happily!

ooh, Boco, ds2 did that the other night...the wheezy thing. was barking like a seal first, hacking away like god knows what...then threw up a couple of times and finally settled with me on the sofa (we had to sleep there as he was too noisy to be in either bedroom, hed have woken one of the other boys up) where his breathing was so raspy and shallow i dared not go to sleep and sat wondering if i oughtnt to take him to hospital... in the end, he was fine in the morning - wierd! he had a roaring temp too and wouldnt take anything, but that was gone in the morning too.
know exactly what you mean about the raised eyebrow dismissive thing

MrsCarrot · 11/07/2007 13:50

Toot- yes they do, it's new and called stuff in a tub! They only had vanilla left having sold all the choc and pecan but I didn't have any in the end. I'll let you know. I LOVE their champagne truffles, I can eat a whole box of seven! They are made down the road too.

Boco -hope dd is feeling better, there are lots of tummy things around here at the moment. I have issues with bugs and being in public so I have a LOT of empathy, poor thing. Hope all the other ill dc's get better soon.

Franny- your ball is drying on the draining board, I hadn't forgotten, I'd had two diastrous attempts and came to the conclusion it might be the new wool, which it was as I did one with my friends other wool and it's fine. The bell sorts of clicks more than rings as it's quite dense but it's a nice sound.

I've had vegi sushi though mine was not homemade, Lullabye Had a hangover smoothie with carrot beetrrot apple and ginger, without the milk thistle or indeed the hangover, just thought it sounded nice. It was. Also, mixed salad and a banana.

Lullabyloo · 11/07/2007 14:05

Toot..squash bread is quite yummy..ds loves it

you need 1 small butternut squash
300g gluten free flour
2tsp baking powder
1tsp mixed herbs or herbal seasoning
2 tbsp olive oil

roast whole squash at 200c on a baking tray for approx 45 mins till very soft....leave to cool for half an hour.
peel skin off & break open & scoop out seeds.
scoop flesh into a bowl & mash well..you need about 375g
add flour, baking powder & seasoning.Stir in 65ml cold water & the olive oil & mix together to make a dough.
place on ligntly floured surface & knead till soft & spongy.(add more flour if too sticky)
form into a round loaf 12cm in diameter.
place on oiled baking tray & make a cross on the top, bake for 30-35 mins..it should sound hollow if it's done.

BBBee · 11/07/2007 14:12

hello

NQC- sorry about the chicken pox, but as you said better ealrier than later - um, can't rmember what I did - oh yes forzen apple juicwe ice cubes if they get them on their tonuge - lots of baths. Hope it goes easy.

100x sorry to read about you being upset. I know you will have some nice news to cheer you up though!

F&Z ignoring you as feeling guilty that muesli stuff still languishing on the side in the kitchen.#

Lulaby - I know you know your food but am a bit about butternut squash bread.

Am getting better with F&V - copying you by havibng HUGE slads for lunch:

Raspberries for breakfast
chick pea, cuc, tom, tuna, onion, gherkin salad for lunch
Tomato rissotto for supper and more fruit.

Think everyone is tired as they reach the end of term so the illnesses go up.

Hope you are all feeling healthy.

TooTicky · 11/07/2007 14:13

That's great LL, thanks. Do you use gluten free flour through necessity or choice?

BBBee · 11/07/2007 14:13

oh and hello everyone else.

BTW I completly ignore the exercise bit of this thread.

Lullabyloo · 11/07/2007 14:31

Toot......it was a recipe someone gave me ages ago using gluten free so have always made it like that...but I guess other flour would be fine.

3andnomore · 11/07/2007 14:33

lol Bee about ignoring the exercise part...I really love doing exercise, nowdays...I suppose otherwise I would not find my way out of bed at like 5am, just to do it, lol! Obviously there are days when I just sack it, or when I do it at another time of the day, but, tbh....I do find that doing it that early really suits me the best, I feel so much more awake after I done it.

Well, I just had a Melon (Galia, of course...they are still on offer...so, I could not resist)...I will turn into one any day now, I think, lol!

Lullaby...that Squash bread really does sound yum...

SauerKraut · 11/07/2007 14:36

Hello all. Am snatching a few minutes online while my Grandfather sleeps. You're right, TooTicky- he's great! He is an absolute gent, plenty of jolly good conversation, game for anything. He eats very well too! Tomorrow he's going to help me set up my broadband internet connection, at long last. This year he has brought my step Grandmother's violin (she died 2 years ago) for my son, who plays- it is 400 years old (awe emoticon) and I feel very honoured to be trusted with it. We shuffled to town (just for 3andnomore)this morning to buy it a new case and they were all well impressed in the music shop!

Ithink my Ds would identify with yours, 100x- was sorry to read that thread and I am also interested in the book suggested.

I hope all wheezers and tummy bug victims are feeling better.

We have had banana, apricots, tomato, juice, and shall be having a large mixed salad with our smoked salmon pasta tonight. Might squeeze in some dried fruit at snack time.

Lullabyloo · 11/07/2007 14:37

did anyone watch that 'indian food made easy 'programme on Monday night?
they made the most divine looking spicy vegetable bread...wish i'd got the recipe

3andnomore · 11/07/2007 14:42

SauerKraut...shuffling old men give me the mental image of one of the most lovely elderly gentleman I have had the honour to look after when I was working as an auxiliary Nurse....he was definately truely shuffling along, and always joked about it himself...oh he was a sweety, and your Grandad seems to be lovely too...and wow at 400 year old Violin...I bet your son feels rather honoured, too.
Lullaby, I didn't see it....sometimes they have recipes listed, etc...on the TV channels websites...or maybe they have an E-mail addi and you could ask them for the recipe.

MrsCarrot · 11/07/2007 14:44

That bread sounds delicious
