For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

......really??????????
better keep it then

TooTicky · 13/07/2007 14:52

Come on fmv, spill age and school area!

Yes, some soya milk is sweetened, some plain. The Plamil organic one in the black carton is good as it contains twice as much soya as most others and so it has more flavour than most other plain ones. I usually buy Alpro blue (+ calcium, sweetened with apple juice) as the dcs like it and the calcium is useful. (Beware though, the chilled one has sugar instead of apple juice).
I like rice milk too, although that is naturally sweet. Almond milk is yum. Oat milk is watery.

Lullabyloo · 13/07/2007 15:00

i like rice & oat milk....not keen on soya

Filchymindedvixen · 13/07/2007 15:07

37 . Newcastle and then Yorkshire

TranquilaManana · 13/07/2007 15:07

we had glass bottles. am 31 this month and went to school in Hackney, inner London.
i was always goody two shoes milk monitor. for the sole reason that in winter, when the milk was cold, i could sneak 2 bottles and in summer, when it was warm and disgusting (they always left it outside all morning, why??) i would pretend id had mine while doing the straws and thus get out of having any.
sneaky fecker arent i?

Lullabyloo · 13/07/2007 15:11

ha ha

Malfoynomore · 13/07/2007 16:02

FMV, if it's any consoloation, I will be 37 in less then a month
I try to remember how it was with milk when I was in school in Germany...I think we had milk or cocoa (if we prefered that, lol) in little plastic cups like the calypso drink ones, with little straw, I probably always chose cocoa, and that was quite nice...saying that I went off it when I got older, it tasted sort or weird to me then...

NotQuiteCockney · 13/07/2007 16:34

I'm 37, went to school in Etobicoke. No milk at school, that I remember.

They deffo still do warm cartons of milk - I saw it at DS1's old school.

I am sitting about making and throwing paper airplanes with DS2. I appear to be having trouble with food - have had two oranges and some chocolate, and cereal. Which isn't really enough food, given I have been BF like mad, am a Big Girl anyway, oh, and did 80 minutes of brisk biking (with 1-2 children on the bike, of course) along with maybe 15 minutes of less brisk biking.

Tea will be ratatouille and pasta I think. Maybe some gazpatcho on the side. I have no meals planned for the weekend, will have to make it to borough market or something.

I will go sandal shopping with DS1 this weekend. Also I think I will try to make it to Spitalfields market or something, to get more Xmas gifts. Oh, and maybe I'll get some sleep. I don't cope well with the sleep dep aspects of parenthood. If I get woken, particularly when I'm falling asleep, I have to give up on sleep for at least a half hour.

Lullabyloo · 13/07/2007 17:32

at Borough market.....i used to love going there on Fridays.....hmmmmmmm might have to train it in with ds one week

TooTicky · 13/07/2007 18:32

NQC, Xmas? I think you must be confused. You shouldn't even be thinking about it for about another 5 months.

FirenzeandZooey · 13/07/2007 18:43

I think NQC has to take her rellies' presents over when she visits them in August (you see I DO pay attention really).

I hated school milk also and never drink cow's milk now. Kind of a theme emerging. I was vegan for a while but oh dear I do love cheese....

The soya thing doesn't worry me a lot. Asian men seem fine to me, although I have read an article which pointed out that Asian men tend to be smoother skinned, less hairy and have comparitively small genitals. Ds has soya milk, anyway, with his cereal or if he asks for a drink of milk. I don't think the amount we consume is going to be problematic. Soya consumption is also good for slowing male pattern baldness! (again the hormone effect I presume). MrsC I don't think women need worry at all, the only concerns raised have been about young boys AFAIK>

FirenzeandZooey · 13/07/2007 18:55

Have eaten:

nectarines (2), kiwis (2), raisins, banana, loads of oak leaf lettuce, cucumber, tomato, roasted courgettes, mushrooms, red pepper, orange pepper, aubergine, and hummus

and about 6 of HC's chocolate biscuits

TheChamberofCarrots · 13/07/2007 19:11

Oh good, I will eat a bowl of salted soya beans whenever I go again!

A very rare turn of events means that dh has taken dc's to the school disco/barbeque and Lo happens to have gone to bed early and I happen to have three kinds of chocolate and a glass of red wine and the house is peaceful. Lovely.

Have had plenty of veg with my potato, garden lettuce, herbs, onions, corn on the cob and tomatoes then watermelon.

Hmm, what shall I have next, maya gold, choc covered mango, or chunky brazil bar. Decisions, decisions.

TheChamberofCarrots · 13/07/2007 19:16

ah, spoke too soon he is awake!

Tatties · 13/07/2007 19:52

This thread is too long!

I got the veg box again woo-hoo

Just tucking into some rasps, strawbs, sunflower seeds, cashews and yogurt...

I remember an incident with sour milk at school... vile vile vile. That'll each me to go back for seconds

MrsC your evening sounds lovely, hope ds settles for you

TheChamberofCarrots · 13/07/2007 19:57

Thanks, Tatties, he is asleep again, so back on here!

The milk FELL out of the carton this morning when I made DH a coffee, I was very glad of my rice milk, though when that goes off it's pretty vile too, like a little explosion of stars through your tea. Nice.

FirenzeandZooey · 13/07/2007 20:20

Having said that about soya, my friend the health food lady won't touch soya milk. But I think you have to make your own mind up. And I can't fkn stand oat milk, it makes my tea go grey.

harpsichordcuddler · 13/07/2007 20:22

errrrrr, apple, nectarine, grapes, cucumber, sweetcorn, peas, cauliflower
eek

TheChamberofCarrots · 13/07/2007 20:24

no, I don't like oat milk much either, but I've got used to rice. Why won't your shiny maned friend drink it?

FirenzeandZooey · 13/07/2007 20:24

yes

I hope it is not a flame about the biscuits

FirenzeandZooey · 13/07/2007 20:24

er the hormone thing I believe

I will ask her

harpsichordcuddler · 13/07/2007 20:25

well I am cross of course
it is a potential lunch menu for tomorrow
too spensive?
veggie enough?
(lunch is now off here, as my oven is broked )

FirenzeandZooey · 13/07/2007 20:32

Oh you poor soul

we can bring selection of deli items if easier / quicker for you

I am worried about the timing for you in case we are slightly delayed, as I know you have to be at the other thing at 2.45

TooTicky · 13/07/2007 20:39

I made Lullaby's basil smoothie! Well, sort of. Except that I didn't juice the carrots because I couldn't face getting the juicer out and then washing it. Also used slightly less carrot as it seemed rather extravagant in this carrot-loving household. So anyway, it wasn't actually runny, was a bit crunchy and I ate it with a spoon but it was quite delicious.

Made pasta sauce with tomato, celery, onion, garlic, courgette, red pepper and hidden kidney beans.

There is something not quite right about my bottom today.

TheChamberofCarrots · 13/07/2007 20:52

Really Toot, what kind of thing is wrong with your bottom?
