hello Krispie cakes welcome.

it must be a full moon or something, not motivated to train either jumped on the windtrainer today and managed 20mins before felt tired and legs heavy. did a hard session yesterday so maybe just a little sore from recovery.

am now trying to pack for an early start tomorrow to Derby. hoping to find a pool up there and a nice run so don't miss any training. Less than a month to go until my race. oh and have hit a fashion set back have got some weird brown stain all over my free charity competitors top. I'm not sure if they can provide me with another one, they are a charity.

glitterfairy · 11/07/2007 07:17

DoubleBluff · 11/07/2007 08:10

Glitter fairy - me neither.
Alarm went off at 6 turned over and went back to sleep.
Feelreally demotivated.
Krispie will look into that race I love the BAy.

krispiecakes · 11/07/2007 08:31

hi all, am determined to get out tonight or im really going to struggle in this race in a couple of weeks! its my fist 10k and so far have only run 5.5 miles as my longest training run. im not sure whether i need to carry anything with me for a 10k? (ie water bottle, gels etc) or is it not really long enough a race to warrant that?

Pidge · 11/07/2007 08:42

wow a shiny new thread and lots of running, welcome krispiecakes and sorry if I've missed anyone else new. For the 10k - if it's an organised race I would have thought they would provide water, so I wouldn't carry anything in that case. And gels are really for longer runs - in fact I was told they take about an hour to start having an effect after you consume them.

I did my club's one mile champs last night - expecting to be massively slower than last year, given my injury lay off, but in fact I managed 6.30, which is only around 12 seconds slower than last year. And I also fitted in a couple of nice and slow 10mm pace jogs before and after to bring the evening's total up to 5 miles.

Hopefully will fit in a short one in my lunchhour today too.

krispiecakes · 11/07/2007 08:52

ah ok.. thanks pidge. Yes they do have a water station at the half way point but whats the scene there? Im imagining a table with a load of plastic cups of water and a bit of a tussle to get at them.....

Fitchy · 11/07/2007 09:55

hi
first time so don't really know what I am doing but am expecting twins... does anyone know of a good double 3 wheeler - prob with fixed 16" wheels that is up to running round commons / parks etc...

Pidge · 11/07/2007 11:12

fitchy - congratulations!! I'm afraid I'm no help with the buggy - have never run with one.

krispiecakes - yup, probably there will be a table with plastic cups of water, if you're lucky there might be volunteers handing them out. I would say in a 10k, just walk through the water station - otherwise you risk falling over, or knocking someone else over - and walk for long enough to drink some water. At most it'll add 20-30 seconds to your time, probably less, and you'll have drunk the water properly so will be more refreshed than if you'd tried to run through and just thrown the water up your nose (which is what I do if I try to run and drink!)

TheDuchessDeMimsyNorkington · 11/07/2007 13:59

fitchy - congratulations! I had a 3-wheeler double buggy from Mothercare - Urban Detour range. It would be just about OK for running on hard tracks/pavements but the steering is quite heavy! Although I did have a 15mth & a baby so perhaps I had unequal weight issues!?! I would go into a large dept. store and just push a few around - it will give you an idea of how light & easy to steer they are. Is size an issue? They are enormous, even when folded.

Hello krispie! Welcome to runsnetters.

popsycal - well done for resting. Don't do much today either

And as for the rest of you, you're just lazy

popsycal · 11/07/2007 14:26

i am going to do a slow 20 minute run later and will walk uf it hurts

VeniVidiVickiQV · 11/07/2007 15:43

Sorry to leap in here, I've been lurking here for a while, in awe of you guys and planning soon to start running. I just wanted to answer the question about double three wheelers. I'd recommend the Out n About Nipper, it's an awsome pushchair - lightweight, quite narrow, with a lockable front wheel ( or the older ones have a fixed wheel ). It's also not too expensive, compared to the really professional jogging ones. I liked the double one so much I bought the single version now I don't need the double, and plan to use it to run with when I get going.

DebitheScot · 11/07/2007 16:04

Hello can I join? I've just (literally, I'm still sweating) been for a run. About 3 miles I think, took just under half an hour. Used to run as a teenager, not done any for years but trying to get back into it. Not seriously but just a 30min jog once or twice a week. I used to be really fit and am not at the moment so trying to get fitness levels back up and its an easy excercise to do to get a bit of me time without taking up huge amounts of time and costing a fortune.

Pidge · 11/07/2007 16:10

Hello celery and debithescot. Welcome to the running crew!!

I love the way running has made me fit and enhanced my quality of life, and allows me to scoff vast quantities of chocolate guilt-free!

I did a 40 minute potter at lunchtime, and felt really strong and good for the first time since the marathon. Hurrah.

krispiecakes · 11/07/2007 16:48

pidge - someone i knew did the flm marathon this year. took them two hours longer than they expected due to the heat tho. HOw did you do? Was it your first?

Pidge · 11/07/2007 17:00

Thanks krispiecakes - that gives me heart! It was my first and I found it incredibly hard. I made it round in 4.33, which was about 20-30 minutes slower than I'd hoped. Am pretty chuffed to have made it though after hearing various other tales of woe.

Now looking forward to a nice sensible half marathon in September!

saggermakersknockturnalley · 11/07/2007 17:07

Pidge - I think 4.33 for your first FLM is fab. I'd be dead chuffed with that.

And making the 'home' page. That's a first.

krispiecakes · 11/07/2007 17:15

god, yeah pidge, thats fantastic!!!! do you think you'd do another? did you get a ballot place? my friend had to raise £2500 for her charity place! Im very tempted to apply this year but can imagine the training really takes over your life. (aformentioned friend didnt have a drink in over 4 months! aarrrrghhhh)

DoubleBluff · 11/07/2007 17:43

Hi Krispie found the Cardiff BAy 10k unfortunately I am away that weekend. Shame as it looks a relly good one.
Hi to aall the new runners!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 11/07/2007 17:54

Welcome celery and debi

I desperately want to get out and run but DP is late coming home. He's still a good hour away and i hate going out late to run. Ho hum...

OP posts:
popsycal · 11/07/2007 18:10

went out and forced my sel to gop slower than usual which felt weird. Had to stop after 5 minutes to help a 4 year old whose foot had got stuck down a hole (don't ask!!!!) and forgot to turn my stop watch on
anyway
did 2.3 miles

speedymama · 11/07/2007 19:38

I saw this on the home page and thought I would pop in. I tend to post on the exercise buddy thread.

I've recently starting running 5 miles and I am very happy with my progress. I tend to stick to 2 or 3 miles during the week and do a longer run at the weekend. I am actually fitter now at age 42yo than I was in my 20s and 30s, even though I did things like aerobics and Kung Fu. I think carrying and parenting twins has helped to increase my stamina.

I'm hoping to move up to 6 miles soon and who knows, may consider doing a half marathon next year. I did a 10k race two years ago but injured my knee soon after so was unable to run for nearly a year. Consequently, why I am really pleased with my progress.

I'm going on holiday at the weekend to Devon so I'm hoping that I will be able to manage at least 2 runs during the week.(lol)

glitterfairy · 11/07/2007 19:46

Wow hello to all the new runners it is wonderful to see you here. DB am so pleased you were lazy like me! (thanks for that duchess)

I have the best dad in the world. Having seen what this has done for me he has extended my personal trainer for another 6 months as a present for having been through so much and worked so hard! I blubbed all over him. So I will be doing more running and being supported as well.

TheDuchessDeMimsyNorkington · 11/07/2007 19:53

Gosh, aren't we popular

How are the legs feeling now?

Hello to new folk. Debbiethescot - that's a bloody good time to have started with, I still haven't done 3 miles in under 30mins and I started running again 2/3 months ago.

Pidge - your FLM time is great. My friend didn't get below 5hrs because of the heat - she had to walk the last 3 miles.

Speedy - I know what you mean about being fitter now, I was rather wild in my 20's & early 30's. I'm much more saintly now

TheDuchessDeMimsyNorkington · 11/07/2007 19:54

Oooh Glitter, that's brilliant. And so is your dad
