I blame them for my leg too.

Not had a 'proper' run since my RFL on 15th!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/07/2007 22:09

Been away from this one for a while....

Went for a run on Sunday after suffering some pain in/around my ribs most of last week. It went well - like I hadnt had 4 days off.

Havent been since. Was going to go today and have a sore throat and feel crap. Plus pain is worse than ever in my ribs. Hurts when I breath deeply. No idea what I have done.

OP posts:
DoubleBluff · 25/07/2007 22:11

If you over do it the muscles between your ribs get strained form breathing too hard!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/07/2007 22:13

Its only in one specific area, and I havent run since SUnday, yet today its awful.

DoubleBluff · 25/07/2007 22:14

Try Runnersworld website? They are quite good for running related probs?
Ibuprofen?

DoubleBluff · 26/07/2007 17:24

I bet no one has been out today?
If you have go to the top of the class as the rain is just dreadful.
Hope to get up early and go 1st thing tomorrow as we are awy weekend.

mamamoo · 26/07/2007 19:10

Celery - Bravissimo do a Royce bra which is fab - check out their website

Managed a 40min run last night and now shoes hung up as have a 5k Sat eve

Ordered an ipod nano and nike plus
Nike plus looks so cool - am VERY excited!!

Veggiemummy · 26/07/2007 19:31

hello back from Derby haven't read through thread as am shattered but hope your all well and enjoying running, only did 2 sessions since sunday but felt good, and a did pre baby PB for my 10km. i'm kind of tapering now,we are going to center parcs for a long weekend tomorrow so might do a couple of gentle runs but winding down and taking it easy really so i'm all rested for the big day.

Veggiemummy · 26/07/2007 19:32

mamma ipod nano and nike plus great so good to see the runs you have done on the website

popsycal · 26/07/2007 19:48

Veggiemummy - remind me of your race? Not payig attention properly!

I am very jealous of the ipod nano. I have a cheap aldi mp3 player which does the job for me I suppose!

Getting very twitchy about running now. 6 weeks before 10K and the furthest I have run is 3.4 miles about 3 weeks ago. My leg still feels dodgy. I am getting p'd off

TheDuchessOfNorks · 26/07/2007 20:22

Well done Veggie on your PB. You must be really pleased with that.

I've just been out for 40 min - again mostly cross-country and lots of hills - but only because I wanted to avoid the roads. Evening runs are OK but I don't have the same level of energy as when I run at 9am.

Popsycal, sorry to hear your leg is still a problem. Are you doing anything to help it recover other than resting - ice, elevation, massage etc?

Good luck for Saturday mamamoo.

popsycal · 26/07/2007 20:28

NOt doing anything to help. It is fine generally but sore a bit if i try to run. Just been on runner's world forum for a quick look and wondering if I have shin splints......very flat feet, upped the running distance a few weeks ago, ran on a different surface than usual on RFL.....

argh!!!!

Veggiemummy · 26/07/2007 20:33

hey pops that doesn't sound good were you going to visit a running shop to check if your shoes are ok?

i'm doing the London triathlon on 5th august, not at all race fit but fit enough to enjoy it so all good. i'm doing it for charity so just finishing is as important as a good time. i'm not expecting to do a pre baby time but will prob enjoy it more than i did then i reckon.

Veggiemummy · 26/07/2007 20:34

Duchess cross country is way more work than running on paths and more enjoyable.

popsycal · 26/07/2007 20:35

good luck veggiemummy!

I was going to go to the running shop wasn't i!!!
Have not had the chance and not likely to get the chance for another week or so - unless I can persuade my mum tro meet me in town one day and watch the boys for half an hour while I go and do it...

mamamoo · 26/07/2007 20:36

POpsy - you MUST rest then for a few days....hard I know but otherwise you will aggravate it....ICE as often as you can

Well done Veggie...I havent done a pre baby time yet had really bad SPD (crutches) so fitness back to less than square one

Celery - also Panache bra (all on www.bravissimo.co.uk) - but underwired and I find it chafes during running but great for gym. I like the shock absorber myself but have to wear two . Can't squeeze myself into my Enell anymore - is like a corset!

good luck to anyone else..........

popsycal · 27/07/2007 14:08

My legs feel surprisingly good finally.
Debating some nurofen and a run......

TheDuchessOfNorks · 27/07/2007 20:37

Popsycal - If you're contemplating Nurofen then I'd err on the side of caution and rest for at least another day or two. Then start with a short gentle run followed by something a bit longer the day after.

Can you get to the running shop to have your shoes checked?

I've noticed with the off-road running I've been doing that I'm far more likely to injure my ankles or knees through twisting or jarring on the uneven ground - anyone have any advice?

popsycal · 28/07/2007 06:48

I did't go out yesterday - thought better of it. The leg feels good today. Have my dancing show today (kids I teach, not me dancing!) and my boys and DH are away for the the night. I think I will come home mid afternoon and go for a nice slow run. Looking forward to it!

popsycal · 28/07/2007 14:34

I have a 'boys-less' afternoon and evening today.

About to get my kit on and go for a gentle run in the sunshine. I will be careful - I promise - and will, of course, report back

Pinions · 28/07/2007 14:55

Hi all not really part of the group, but just wanted to say that I never run off road anymore cos even when the ground is just slightly uneven it can put a great strain on your ankles (I have previous ankle injury which has never really healed).

Sooo much easier to run on tarmac IMO!!

And of course a good pair of trainers.

Mine are bog standard Asics (the guy in the shop assured me they are the orginal "running shoe"), £35 and they are FABAROO!

popsycal · 28/07/2007 16:01

Hi Pinions!

I think I am made for roads too. When I think about the RFL, it was the right side that I kept going onto the rough ground and dodging people and it is my right leg!

ANyway!
I went out. Really muggy and hot but windy. GIve me rain anyday! The leg felt ok but I feel frustrated. Ran 1.9 miles in 17:45 (and had a brief 20 second walk around the 11 mins mark before I had a few cross words with myself and started running again!).
My 1.7 point (which is the end of my loop) was 16:00 - which is only 35 seconds slower than normal so not bad.

Stretched well afterwards and have had some ice on the leg as a precaution.

Fingers crossed!

mamamoo · 28/07/2007 20:37

26'42 for my 5k tonight (flat course, weather great wee bit windy). post birth PB for me!

popsycal · 28/07/2007 21:14

excellent mamamoo -- fab time!!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 28/07/2007 21:16

Hi Pinions. Well done Popsycal, that's a good start back.

mamamoo - congratulations on PB, that's an excellent time

Re: x-country. I can feel my legs compensating for the bumps, dips and muddy patches etc so I will go easy on the off-roading I think, but there are no pavements where I live so running in the evening is quite dangerous.

I've just done 5k (not a race), part x-country, part tarmac. I feel great. I didn't time it but I know it was good I love runs like this!
