Unable to walk suddenly

TROUBLEDMAM · 03/07/2018 02:16

So on Thursday I suddenly became unable to walk
I could feel my back hurt n giving out n my legs trembling
Ive suffered with sciatica before n thought it was the beginning of an episode
Until Friday when I realised I couldn't walk at all
I called my gp out n she said it was sciatica n a pulled muscle
Give me strong drugs n left
Come Saturday night the drugs weren't masking the pain n I was sure they was something more wrong
I rang 111 who phoned an ambulance
They wouldn't take me to hospital said ring my doctor today
I did this n she said she would call back after speaking to another doctor but never did

I'm in absolute agony I'm pissing in a bucket
I've had muscle relaxers called lorazepam
Codeine phosphate paracetamol every four hours since Friday n I'm still in agony

Any one know wat I can do next?

Jesus, I’ve just read the entire thread for the first time and I’m horrified.
Any loss of bowel or bladder control with a herniated disc is a medical emergency, I had a large herniated disc a few years ago it got slowly worse and resulted in me being by unable to stand for a few seconds, unable to sit, so painful then eventually numbness and loss if bladder control. My GP rang the ambulance for me when I told them I was peeing myself.
I had a micro discetomy which stopped the pain, but it had herniated so far and for so long (whilst I was just given more & more painkillers) I have permanent nerve damage in 1 leg.

Needahairbrush · 13/09/2018 19:54

Demand to be referred to the neurology department OP, I fear you’re better by massively fobbed off.

TROUBLEDMAM · 13/09/2018 20:03

Five hours I'm still waiting on ambulance but they rang n said I'm on the list
Ridiculous
Sorry to hear this x

OP can anyone drive you to hospital? I really hope they get to the bottom of what is causing so much pain Thanks

SheRaTheAllPowerful · 13/09/2018 21:29

I’ve just read your thread and all I can say is how sorry I am for you, it is unbelievable how horrendous your treatment has been, I could cry for you. Just appalling!
How can they treat people like this?

TROUBLEDMAM · 13/09/2018 21:33

I'm here finally after a five hour wait
Let's see what happens now
If it wasn't for no luck I'd have none at all lol

RandomMess · 13/09/2018 22:31

I hope you get some appropriate treatment urgently Flowers

LalaDipsey · 13/09/2018 22:34

Good luck. I had similar too a few years ago, with doctors ignoring the fact that I couldn't walk or move one of my legs. It took a doctor friend I was on the phone to saying I was like a zombie dragging a leg behind me to step in and call the hospital on my behalf to get anywhere. However, after an operation it was like magic and the pain went. I still have numbness down one leg but gradually some movement came back and my leg mostly works fine now. Sending you best wishes and I hope they sort you out v quickly.

TROUBLEDMAM · 13/09/2018 23:20

Can you refuse to leave hospital
Because by the sounds of it they are just gonna send me home

Ollivander84 · 13/09/2018 23:28

Say that you cannot cope with the pain at home. Ask what you can do for pain management

MrsRyanGosling15 · 13/09/2018 23:33

Yes you absoluty can. I've admitted many patients on to the ward that just refused to be discharged from a&e. Sometimes some were just chancers who thought they knew better than everyone else, just fancied the attention etc but there were always some who had just had enough. They just knew something was wrong and couldn't take it anymore. I actually did it myself with my ddad once. Refused point blank to take him home knowing some other issues hadn't been taken care off. It was actually the ward next to the one I nurse in. Made things akward for a while but I didn't give a shit. When u know you need help, I wasn't above begging/crying and taking doctors and nurses registration numbers. Really hope you get help.

Blameanamechange · 13/09/2018 23:38

Just rtwt. Hope you get the get the help you need OP. This is diabolical.

Blameanamechange · 13/09/2018 23:41

Find out if they have PALS at the hospital it's a patient support team for exactly this kind of situation. Ask a member of staff. They often have posters up with the contact details on.

TROUBLEDMAM · 13/09/2018 23:46

They said they wouldn't admit for pain management in my case well that's what the doctor said in AnE he is a junior

I've told him I need pain management
He said he hopes that the spinal ward takes me up there and does the mri

Tbh he looks young and even told me to go private
I told the health care assistant who was like omg as if he just said that

This is all getting logged and reported along with the other inhuman treatment
A dog would get better care

I shouldn't be left in this much pain
I'm fumming

Ollivander84 · 13/09/2018 23:51

Ask to see another doctor if you can

Cardiganandcuppa · 13/09/2018 23:52

Rather than majoring on the pain management side you need to say (over and over again) that in addition to your escalating pain your legs are heavy and giving way and that you have altered bladder and bowel patterns. Ask them how they can rule out a neurological emergency on the basis of what they have done so far tonight. Ask them to put their answer in writing.

DuskyMoth · 14/09/2018 00:00

Any chance you could get to the RVI instead of where you are? They know what they are doing there.
