Unable to walk suddenly

TROUBLEDMAM · 03/07/2018 02:16

So on Thursday I suddenly became unable to walk
I could feel my back hurt n giving out n my legs trembling
Ive suffered with sciatica before n thought it was the beginning of an episode
Until Friday when I realised I couldn't walk at all
I called my gp out n she said it was sciatica n a pulled muscle
Give me strong drugs n left
Come Saturday night the drugs weren't masking the pain n I was sure they was something more wrong
I rang 111 who phoned an ambulance
They wouldn't take me to hospital said ring my doctor today
I did this n she said she would call back after speaking to another doctor but never did

I'm in absolute agony I'm pissing in a bucket
I've had muscle relaxers called lorazepam
Codeine phosphate paracetamol every four hours since Friday n I'm still in agony

Any one know wat I can do next?

Just read this from top to bottom and oh my fucking god!!!!

I think it's time to contact PALS. The treatment you have received is horrendous and I say that as an NHS worker.

Also- www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/07/050705004113.htm

And I remember learning at uni that women's pain is more likely to be discounted by GPs than men's account of their pain. Might be worth letting your GP and MP know.

Also I would be thinking about contacting (or threatening to contact) your local news rag about this. This is totally UNACCEPTABLE and NOT what the NHS stands for.

After been sent to hospital again
I finally got that MRI scan and properly examined
Ive got a herniated disk which is touching my nerve
Next step ~ nerve root blocker injections 😱

If that doesn’t work ~ surgery ~ 😭

At least I’ve a diagnosis

Phew, finally!
Sorry they have found something wrong, but glad you at least know what is going on and have a treatment plan.

Good luck Flowers

RandomMess · 26/07/2018 21:35

Hope the blocker works, will they give you one tomorrow?

ThanksThanksThanksThanksThanksThanksThanks

TROUBLEDMAM · 26/07/2018 21:52

They haven't said x

Butteredparsn1ps · 26/07/2018 21:57

Pleased they have found s cause OP and I hope this leads to rapid and successful treatment.

I'm am lost for words about the way you have been treated, as less than a person - and in part - attributed to your mental health. I'm no Psych, but pretty sure disc herniations aren't of psychological origin. Very shabby. Please consider complaining once you have the energy. Thanks

Knitjob · 26/07/2018 22:11

Glad they have found a cause, sorry it's such a horrible cause. I hope the nerve blockers give you some relief. They should do. My dh had surgery for a herniated disk. He wasn't allowed to sit down or carry anything for 6 weeks but the main afterwards he said was so much less than the pain he had been in before, and he's not had hardly any pain since he's all healed up. That was 5 years ago and he's like normal.

winecigsandchoc · 26/07/2018 22:14

Well thank fuck for that. Still, just because you've finally got a diagnosis doesn't mean the assessment of your symptoms didn't major get screwed up.

Rachie1986 · 26/07/2018 22:19

So glad you have a diagnosis OP. Hope they can treat it quickly and effectively x

3luckystars · 26/07/2018 22:20

You poor thing. I can’t believe how badly you have been treated and ignored while you were in agony.

I hope you get fixed soon x

user1471464702 · 26/07/2018 22:24

Thank God any inability to walk suggests pressure on the spinal chord or messages in the brain not getting through properly - do complain this is so upsetting glad u finally have an answerFlowers

HardAsSnails · 26/07/2018 22:31

Bloody hell, OP, what a nightmare, hope now you've got a diagnosis that things get better for you Flowers

LoveProsecco · 26/07/2018 22:45

Glad you have a diagnosis. Wishing you good health Thanks

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 27/07/2018 02:56

It is so scary that in this day and age that someone can be suffering to that extend and the medical professionals still don't act appropriately.

OP I'm glad you have a diagnosis and please please please find the time and energy to complain. About the hospital, about the stag, about your gp.

Charolais · 27/07/2018 04:29

How you’ve been treated is inhumane. If someone neglected their dog in that way when it was clearly injured, they would be banned from owning animals for life.

Charolais · 27/07/2018 04:31

They need to skip the nerve root blocker injections and go straight to surgery.

swingofthings · 27/07/2018 06:23

Well that's great news in that indeed you have a diagnosis. I'm glad that in the end, you listened and made your way back to hospital. Now hopefully you can be treated and you can start focusing on feeling a bit normal again. Above all, it must nice to finally being considered seriously.

PS: I'd change GP.

ApolloandDaphne · 27/07/2018 08:11

At long last you know what is wrong. You have been treated shockingly regarding this. Once you are on the mend i think a complaint about your treatment would be in order.

NorthEndGal · 27/07/2018 11:55

I'm so glad you finally found out What the cause is! I hope you recover quickly

Anothergoodday · 27/07/2018 19:53

Hi OP, I had the same diagnosis a couple of years ago. I couldn’t wait for the NHS to deal so got an MRI privately. The end result was with meds I started to improve after about 2 months without any perm nerve damage or surgery, fingers crossed for you.

Mellifera · 28/07/2018 08:48

Good luck Op.

I‘ve been there twice and NRB helped immediately.

Now I regularly do my exercises, yoga and long distance walking and haven‘t taken any painkillers.

MarklahMarklah · 31/07/2018 23:33

I'm really glad that you have found out what the problem is, and hope that now the issue has been identified, you can get some speedy and effective treatment.
I do hope that you will be making a complaint about your GP when you are feeling better. To dismiss someone's agony because they have mental health issues shows a lack of understanding and a need for some targeted training.
And yes, change GP.
