Good evening

Our previous thread is here

If you've got cancer, this is the thread for you. Introduce yourself and feel free to ask any questions. We also welcome anyone who is waiting for cancer tests. We know how scary it can be. So don't be shy. We will happily hold your hand and hopefully wave goodbye when you get good news :)

Purple sorry for the dumb question but where was your cancer and when? And do you know the difference between ct and pet scan? I've only had a ct but doctor said he might ask for a pet depending on what this bronchoscopy shows.

It's rather surreal to feel well isn't it? I was in agony for 5/6 weeks before the surgery and now it's all gone. It almost makes it hard to accept what is really happening.

purpleunicorns · 06/06/2018 21:00

Dulce I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in October last year, a PET scan is a full body scan which looks at everything. At least that's what google tells me Grin I've had plenty of CT and MRI scans but this will be my first PET scan

Sorry you're waiting for results, it really is the worst bit. Hopefully you'll get some answers soon.

You're much braver than me getting your eyebrows threaded. Ouch!

Mrspotter12 · 06/06/2018 21:40

Hey folks sending love and hugs to all. Had my stafing scan this evening and mastectomy tomorrow! Have taken sleeping tablets so see you in the flip side xxxx

Dulce and purple a PET scan uses a radioactive glucose injection. Because the cancer cells are more active they take up more of the radioactive glucose than other cells, so then by measuring that they can build up an image of the body and where the cancer cells are. You're asked to rest as much as possible for 24 hours beforehand, and then fast for, I think, 8 hours. You have to drink lots of water. They give the radioactive injection and you then have to rest for a while to allow it to circulate before the scan. It's no noisier than a CT scan, and in fact they often do a PET-CT scan, which is a combination of the two. It takes a bit longer than a CT scan. I nearly fell asleep in mine!

Afterwards you will be slightly radioactive for about ten hours. You need to keep an arm's length away from other people, and must completely avoid small children and pregnant women.

Good morning everyone

Does anyone else's screen go funny when they try and scroll up?! Happens on my phone too Confused not really a big deal, but means I can't check back once I've started typing a post so I have to rely on my rather unreliable memory Grin

Anyway I hope everyone slept well. Have as good a day as possible :)

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/06/2018 08:18

Jchocchip is it your appointment today too? Good luck. Hopefully you and dontknow will be following in flourella and tibni's footsteps :) we are always pleased when we can wave people on their way with good news! Though of course we will make you very welcome in the unlikely event that you need to join us longer term Flowers

chasegirl how are you getting on? I hope you are healing well Flowers

Sorry if anyone else has appointments today that I've missed Blush and Chocolate for those who are in waiting limbo at the moment

Hope all goes smoothly mrsp and you get BrewCake on the other side!

Fab news tibni Smile

Squeezy hugs from me too purple (wasn’t sure that was allowed on MN Grin)

It’s poxy oxy day (day 1 cycle 2) for me so have been madly Washing clothes and now off to hoover! Feeling Sad at the thought but also going for a (small!) brunch with my friend before so it’s not a totally Sad day!

Good luck to everyone waiting/appointments and thinking of all those recovering from various things too Flowers

Mrspotter12 · 07/06/2018 08:49

Thanks all, waiting to go down now - see you on the flip side!!!!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/06/2018 08:51

Bon chance Mrs P. Wishing you tea, toast and Marmite on the other side.

No screen problems for me Leslie

Purple thinking of you. My next scan is on the 12th. Results 25th.

Addle enjoy your lunch. I'm committing the lone-person sin of living off bread & cheese because I CBA to go shopping or clean the fridge. DD3 returns on Saturday though so I will need to stir myself - I can feel a lasagne coming on...

TwitterQueen1 · 07/06/2018 09:28

whoops! pardon my French. Bonne chance.

Dulcedelecherocks · 07/06/2018 09:49

Thanks for the info on pet scans. I still don't know if I'll need one. How on earth can I manage to be away from dd for 10 hours after? Bloody hell there is always something.

Good luck addle. I also hate it. And the tingling after does my head in too. I had mine on Monday and woke up very achy and queasy this morning.

Good luck Mrs and Purple.

Out of curiosity where are you lot in the uk? Wonder if any of us go to the same hospital?

I get my chemo at Mount Vernon on the outskirts of London.

purpleunicorns · 07/06/2018 10:27

Oh I didn't know I'd be radioactive Shock luckily no small children here. Dulce I've just been reading about pet scans on the nhs website and if you drink loads of water it flushes it out faster. I live in the North East and go to James Cook hospital.

Thanks Addle, hope you manage to enjoy your brunch Cake

Fingers crossed for your next scan TQ I'm seeing my consultant that day although I'm not sure why when she rang yesterday to say I need a pet scan before they do anything else. I could very easily life off bread and cheese and do quite regularly unless I'm cooking for others Grin

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/06/2018 10:32

I'm in south east. I had my PET scan at Mount Vernon as that is the nearest place to me that does them.

Hopefully you won't need a PET scan :)

Good luck addled - after this one you're half way through. Hope you have a lovely brunch.

Good luck to everyone else waiting on scans/tests Flowers Cake.

TwitterQueen1 · 07/06/2018 16:44

Penguins Great news that they haven't found anything sinister in your latest tests. They've been investigating for some time now haven't they? for various different cancers I think? So you must be delighted to have the all-clear from cancer. Hopefully we can wave goodbye to you too, with a big bunch of flowers Flowers. It's lovely to have another one leave this thread that no-one wants to be on...

TwitterQueen1 · 07/06/2018 16:52

Thanks Purple I expect the worst and hope for the best. Today's delectation will be M&S potato dauphinoise with sausages. No cooking required - just turn on on the oven. Grin

I'm at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

YearOfYouRemember · 07/06/2018 17:43

Hi to all

Hope it went ok *MrsP.

penguinsnpandas · 07/06/2018 17:43

Yes all the tests so far have come back clear from cancer and I think the future ones (MRI and cystoscopy) aren't for cancer so I can say goodbye and good luck to you all again (and hope its longer this time before next cancer test) Grin

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/06/2018 18:29

That's good news penguins :) I hope the other tests finally get you a diagnosis and that it's something easily fixed! All the best Flowers

TQ I love potato dauphinois. Enjoy!

OP posts:
purpleunicorns · 07/06/2018 19:09

Ah it's lovely to see people leave penguins! In the best possible way of course Grin I really hope you get sorted and fixed soon and that we don't have to have you back any time soon. Best of luck with everything Thanks
