Some of us have been here a while and others have only just joined. If you're lurking, feel free to say hello. We are quite friendly really.

You are welcome to join us, whatever sort of cancer you have, or if you're waiting for tests to find out whether you have cancer or not (we hope not!)

Our previous thread is here. Do check it out if you're new as there's lots of useful information in the first few posts.

Best wishes to everyone who finds themselves here Flowers

YAYYYYYYYY! Leslie so glad to hear you're home (and reunited with your shampoo)! Wishing you well-earned, pain-free and very sweet dreams. [we need a heart emoji]

Penguinsandpandas · 28/02/2018 21:29

Glad to hear you're home Leslie

Here's the heart emoji plus a few cute animals. 💖🐣🐧🐨

DS has been off today with the snow, he came and told me he was really dizzy then 2 minutes later reappeared saying he was cured by pressing the back of his neck. I must ask him for tips.

TwitterQueen1 · 28/02/2018 22:06

YaY Leslie sleep well

Taytotots · 28/02/2018 22:08

Leslie glad you are home. Sleep tight.
Freddie now gin flavoured medicine that's an idea -or better still actual gin. Coming over to join you and TQ making up wool names fed up of it in here (promise I won't bring Stephen Fry).

Drink made me puke. Then they tried 3 times to insert Ng tube but I couldn't tolerate initial bit. Not in nurses good books now as I have just refused it. I feel better after being sick so probably would make me feel better just wish there was an easier way of getting it in. I'm usually ok with medical procedures - I think I have funny shaped sinuses.

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 01/03/2018 08:17

Morning all Smile

Finally it's scan day today... I just really hope the weather doesn't screw things up; either for me getting there or the hospital staff! Fingers crossed and I'll be keeping an eye on the hospital's Twitter (I imagine that might be the place they would announce any cancellations?). It's been less than 2 weeks since my initial appointment with my GP and it literally feels like it's been months. I really hope I get some answers today; my nerves are shot to pieces Blush

Leslie I'm so pleased to hear you're home and you have clean hair!

TwitterQueen1 · 01/03/2018 08:29

Good luck MarsBars

Finally we have snow here!

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 01/03/2018 09:17

Thanks Twitter. Enjoy your snow!

ggirl · 01/03/2018 09:22

Mars good luck today - I hope the snow doesn't disrupt anything .Thinking of you , it feels surreal finally getting to the date you've been focusing on for what seems like years .
Hang in there , the not knowing is the worst part of it all .

mrsreynolds · 01/03/2018 09:23

Waves to all
👐
Thinking of you all x

mrsrhodgilbert · 01/03/2018 09:33

genie I didn't drive myself home after breast surgery, sorry to confuse you. We live ten minutes from our town hospital but that journey, the evening of my surgery made me feel horribly sick and I was later on. I also got incredibly hot and was breathing very heavily in the ward in the afternoon which brought a few staff running over. I'll be mentioning all this to the anaesthetist. Maybe they can change something next time.

leslie I hope you've had a good sleep and feel a bit better.

Good luck mars, and I hope the snow doesn't mess it up.

TQ how's your dd doing?

OneOfTheGrundys · 01/03/2018 10:22

Can I ask, what is the calm app recommended here?
My DH has been (and is still in the process of) the diagnosis of a life limiting heart condition and we are struggling.
Thank you.

freddiemercury · 01/03/2018 10:44

Good luck mars

freddiemercury · 01/03/2018 11:03

And tayto how are you doing today? Less pain?? Realky hope so....
And leslie hope you're feeling comfortable...must be bliss to be home
And twitter hooray for the snow...novelty wearing off here!!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 01/03/2018 11:59

Good luck today MarsBars Flowers you could also check Facebook for updates

Tayto NG tubes are grim Flowers thankfully I've avoided having to have one put in while awake as I don't think I'd tolerate it either! I hope you feel better soon. I always thought of bowels as being quite tough and was surprised how much my first surgery affected me. They are very sensitive and hate being touched apparently. It will get better soon.

TQ enjoy your snow

I've been having really weird and vivid dreams too. Presumably the morphine.

My excitement at being home and clean has officially worn off. I had a bad night again with pain and vomiting. I'm parched but can only manage tiny sips. Frankly today I've just about had enough of this cancer lark Hmm

I hope everyone is OK Flowers

freddiemercury · 01/03/2018 12:21

Oh leslie it sounds distinctly challenging...so sorry you're having to put up with this.
I so wish there was something I could do to help....er if there is please please let me know.. ..
I hope you somehow feel better soon.. thinking of you lots...you are a bloody marvel.
Xxx xxx and hugs and I don't care if it's unmumsnetty

wombat22 · 01/03/2018 12:23

Leslie Sending you gentle hugs today (( ))
OneofTheGrundy's I'm sorry I don't know what app it is. I think I saw someone post about it yesterday?
Mars I hope all goes to plan today. Will you get the results straight after the scan? I've usually had to wait.
I hope everyone is coping with the snow. We have had loads.

I have been to the hospital today and it has been confirmed that the surgery has removed the cancer from my lung. There is no sign of cancer in the nodes they tested so I won't need any further treatment. Hooray I will be referred to the 'survivors clinic' for periodic checks, however, I noticed a swelling above my collar bone this morning and mentioned it at the hospital. He doesn't think it is a swollen lymph node but is arranging for an urgent ultra sound. I am awaiting results of some other tests and I don't want to gloat but I intend to celebrate that the lung cancer has been removed. Wine

ggirl · 01/03/2018 12:26

oh Leslie , that does sound awful , I hope you get some help with the pain and nausea today - can the community team assist this time instead of readmitting you again?

TwitterQueen1 · 01/03/2018 12:26

Leslie sorry you're feeling rubbish again. On a longer term basis, are they able to suggest anything other than pain relief? I hope you don't have to go back in. Are you managing to read or listen to music?

MrsRhod DD seems to be OK now. We never did get any kind of diagnosis other than secondary tonsilitis infection. She went back Tuesday but is p'ed off again as all lectures have now been cancelled because of snow, so she could have stayed the whole week. She read the riot act to her flatmates at 2am because they kept trying to include her in their drunken poker games even though she was in bed asleep.

Mars not sure how much info you will get today tbh.... hoping for positive news for you.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 01/03/2018 12:34

Definitely cause for celebration wombat Cake I'm so pleased for you. And I hope all the other results are OK too

Thank you both for the hugs. They are much appreciated :)

freddie thank you. You've already helped just by being here :) it makes such a difference to be able to talk about it. Have you written your article yet?

I hope everyone is warm and cosy. I've made myself a duvet nest.

OP posts:
Penguinsandpandas · 01/03/2018 13:32

So sorry to hear you are feeling terrible Leslie Do you have someone to help? My cat loves a good duvet nest and has her own duvet.

I have my hysterscopy / biopsy / resection through now for 13th at 4.30pm, seems quite late in the day, know its under a general and I always take forever to come round. Wondering if they will throw me out at say 9pm or keep me in overnight. And no eating or drinking on 13th. Hmm

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 01/03/2018 14:08

Leslie I'm sorry things are so rubbish. I hope the nest is cosy.
Tayto I hope things are improving for you.
good luck mars - thinking of you.

and wombat that sounds like the perfect occasion for Wine.

puttingthegenieback · 01/03/2018 14:10

just jumped on here for a moment and saw your update Leslie. I'm so sorry you are feeling unwell again - that's just crap. Joining everyone else in sending you un-mumsnetty hugs and xxxxxs.

TwitterQueen1 · 01/03/2018 16:03

wombat that is brilliant news! Fantastic! You're a survivor Grin Here's hoping the swelling is just a blip. I'll join you in a large Wine.

freddiemercury · 01/03/2018 17:38

wombat I will definitely join you in a wine
leslie the very irritating one is done.....today's was easy.. ..but you might all want to brace yourself for a deluge of missives from me on Monday...by then I will be wrestling with one about scandals behind charities...yes I do know I'm a little late on that one, but I'm following orders! Eeeeeek...if anyone has worked for a dodgy charity do feel free to PM me...it would be anonymous...and you'd be saving everyone from my musings!
Anyway hope everyone is um weathering the storm so to speak...verybritishproblems on Twitter amused me somewhat...oooh and tayto thinking of you.. and hoping you haven't needed any more medicinal drinks...unless it's brandy
And mars do hope it went ok...

puttingthegenieback · 01/03/2018 20:08

raising a (lemonade) glass to wombat this evening!
Hope everyone is surviving the snowpocalypse.
