OOOh well done doublebluff!!! I have decided to try riding my bike up the fell today as I have been reading Lance Armstongs second book and am now inspired.

DoubleBluff · 01/07/2007 11:17

Hooray! Went out and 3.5 miles.
BUT went on my usual route around my local park, noticed a few barriers up, didn't hink much of it.
Got half way round ancd came a across about a thousand womwne waitning to start their 'race foe life'.
Felt like a right idiot. Ran the last part of my run xtra quick as didn't want to confront a thousand sweaty women running towards me. ( did the race back to front in 33 mins btw!)
DFeel so good and back on track.
All week really felt like I didn't want to run but this morning despite a little hangover I really wanted to get out there. Maybre I neede the rest.

sarz · 01/07/2007 13:16

I did the british 10k!! I didnt walk once and it was the longest i have run distance and time wise!!! I did it in 1 h 15 which i know is pretty slow, but i am still proud, as i have never really ran for longer than 20 mins with a sneaky walk!

DoubleBluff · 01/07/2007 13:23

Well done sarz!
I am looking for my next 10k and hope to improve on last weeks time.
Not easy is it?!

BeatrootandBenedick · 01/07/2007 13:38

I really must get my running shoes on again - it has been two weeks and how easy it is to stop!

Tuesday I will go!

You all seem to be doing so well

Wallace · 01/07/2007 15:06

Just a quick message - we are in the middle of moving house spo no internet at home.

I did my 5k today. My time was about 31 minutes I'm well chuffed, that was my first ever race, and I have only been training for 8 weeks!

glitterfairy · 01/07/2007 15:27

Fantastic everyone well done!

It has been raining here which has stopped the planned bike ride so far because it isnt ordinary rain. I know that sounds like a british rail excuse but honestly I have never seen anything like it and am worried that if I take the kids they will skid off down the hills.

sarz · 01/07/2007 16:32

Any post race advice? as it was my 1st, and by far the most i have ever run, i know i am going to be sore 2mrw! I had a long hot bath when i got in, but any other advice? I have heard people mention recovery runs, but dont know what that is!!

DoubleBluff · 01/07/2007 18:01

Sarz a recovery run is just a short gentle run to stop you seizing up.
I use th e cooling gels on sore musclees, and sometiems take a coiple of ibuprofen if really sore.
Am checking out runners world for a 10k to aim for.

lemonstartree · 01/07/2007 20:26

Sarz well done thats fantastic...just to complete it is fab !!

after the first time I ran 10k I Stretched and bathed and was stiff in the morning.....but OK, ran again on the weds after a sunday long run, only about 3k.

it took about 2 weeks to feel completely back to normal.

today just enjoy the feeling of having made it!

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/07/2007 20:27

Hey well done sarz

Ibuprofen and a glass or two of wine works wonders.

popsycal · 01/07/2007 20:27

Well done sarz!!

I didn't get out for my run today as we got back late and I am shattered. DH is off work tomorrow though so I will go in the morning at some point instead.

glitterfairy · 01/07/2007 20:38

Well done sarz. Perhaps swim tomorrow or a walk and then a gentle run on Tuesday. It does take about two weeks to get a run like that out of your system.

You and me both popsy and now need to start getting ready for my half in October as it seems a long way away but have realised I go on holiday in 6 weeks and then it is the end of August!

Pidge · 01/07/2007 21:44

I always argue for a hefty glass of wine as the best way to 'recover' from a race!!

And have just indulged myself having done a 5 mile race with my club this morning. Slightly depressing to realise how out of shape I've got having been super fit for the marathon. I was two minutes slower over the 5 miles than on the same course last year, and a full 5 minute slower than my PB. Also my foot hurt again, which is a bore. But it didn't seem to hamper my running, so I'm just ignoring it.

A day off for me tomorrow as a reward, then hopefully a nice slow 5-6 miler on Tuesday.

popsycal · 02/07/2007 16:44

Just had a rubbish run. Was going to do my 3.4 mile thing. It is soooooo hot and humid and I could barely breathe!!! Never really got into it, legs felt sluggish but most of all, I was so so thirsty, so I quit after 2 miles (canny time mind )

Must remember to drink more water in general as I am really bad for remembering to drin during the day

glitterfairy · 02/07/2007 18:51

Popsy I am taking water on each run now adn am surprised at how much I drink.

Pidge LOL at the alcohol!

Have had a rubbish two days of feelign really tired and doing nowt need to buck my ideas up instantly.

BellaLasagne · 02/07/2007 18:59

Hi again,

I was on here last week complaining that my shins hurt...

It turns out i have shin splints so am resting this week (i.e. not running but doing low impact aerobics dvd) and have ordered insoles for my trainers as I seem to be over pronating (?).

Hope they do the trick as RFL 13 days away and shins hurt still!

popsycal · 02/07/2007 19:01

bella you need trainers for serious overpronators.
i have these and they are brill

TheDuchessOfNorks · 02/07/2007 19:08

I managed a measley 2k this morning. I just feel rubbish - really heavy legs, not getting past the starting-ache etc. I'm going to try another 5k tomorrow but don't feel very hopeful. I certainly won't be taking a watch with me!

Very impressed with you Sarz! I almost pass out after 40 minutes and couldn't contemplate doing over an hour.

popsycal · 02/07/2007 19:26

I think we are being a little too hard on ourselves

We are all allowed bad days. Look at Paula in the Olympics

popsycal · 02/07/2007 19:27

Forgot to add - DS1 (nearly 5) and I did a 1K before his bedtime. We did the 'lampost race'. Walk to one lampost, race mum to the next etc
He wants to do a race.....considering doing the mini great north run with him (1 mile) in September....

Veggiemummy · 02/07/2007 20:00

hello can i pop into this thread, i'm a triathlete but run mostly (my cycle training tends to be with DS in the trailer hanging off the back of bike). I am only doing one tri so far this year which is the London tri. Not doing as well as would like in training, so hard to plan for it these days.

sarz · 02/07/2007 20:17

Well i am in AGONY today! i made myself run round the park with LO and have 'races' although today i wasnt pretending to let him win!!! Its mostly going up and down stairs that almost makes me yelp!!!

I will go swimming tomorrow, but i realised i only got 11weeks to go before my half marathon so i have got a tough few weeks!! its my own fault, i signed up for it in november! I am going to go by the BUPA training plan and get my arse in gear!! POPSY, i am afraid i am not allowed anymore bad days, i have had 8 months of bad days!!!
