Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Does anything stop the nausea? I've only had that for 2 days but it's bloody awful. Tried pepto bismol and now sipping mint tea but nothing works. It's causing so much excess saliva I'm having to spit every 30 seconds or so. It's disgusting. Haven't slept in 24hours and I'm now panicking. Help?!

Seeline · 11/02/2018 15:18

Bit late to the party but I think I have something similar. Day 8 for me, have been in bed since Tuesday with a high temp, aches and pains, bad head, horrendous cough and coldy/sinus issues since Friday. Saw the GP on Friday who said it had gone to my chest and gave me ABs. Have seen some improvement today, but not holding out much hope for a quick recovery having read earlier posts 🙁

I’m finding I am having coughing fits with this. Awful rasping dry cough

Dontfencemein · 11/02/2018 15:53

Glad I’m not the only one. Awful cough, aching muscles, fever...I’m feeling a bit better this afternoon but strangely spaced out. The DCs are being allowed to watch a lot more telly than usual!

treedragon · 11/02/2018 16:21

@Dontfencemein

How long have you had it?

SeniorRita · 11/02/2018 16:24

Ginger is good for nausea, maybe make lemon and honey drink and grate fresh ginger in. Or lemon and ginger herbal tea? Could try a travel sickness tablet?

I think, overall, sleep is the best thing for all of it.

BreconBeBuggered · 11/02/2018 16:42

Another victim here. Mostly sore throat, headache, random dizziness and the distinct sensation that the inside of my head is degenerating into a sort of mucusy ooze, which refuses to come out other than the odd bit I puke up in disgust. I've had it for about a week now and the throat seems to be easing and I feel less achey most of the time, and capable of trying to do things. Trouble is that it doesn't take very much to knock me for six; 20 minutes' housework or a bit of cooking and I'm suddenly fast asleep.
Can't be arsed eating anything much, which I suppose won't kill me, but I feel slightly aggrieved that 8 days of half-heartedly swallowing a few mouthfuls now and again, to line my stomach for the painkillers, hasn't resulted in an astonishingly svelte outline.

Seeline · 11/02/2018 16:58

I'm still at the stage of having to prepare myself to go to the loo and then need a rest when I get back to bed! I'm lucky DH is off work and DCs are old enough to get themselves sorted. And it's half term now so no school runs or after school activities to deal with.

Are other here feeling down in the mood with all this?

I know I am now.

SeniorRita · 11/02/2018 20:08

I am down because I live alone and while I don't care about stuff like housework it would be nice now and then to have someone bring me a cuppa or check how I am.

But, mainly due to not being able to get out much - to make sure I do go out I am in a couple of walking groups, I did a one hour walk yesterday but had to nap in the afternoon so I didn't do the 10 mile walk today. Hoping to get back onto it next weekend. Other than that I don't go out much anyway, so it's depressing!

I don't even need to be in work until Friday this coming week (wfh Thu) though I am then in four days the following week.

Dontfencemein · 11/02/2018 21:22

#Treedragon I’ve had the cough for over a week but the flu-like symptoms for about two days so seem to have got off lightly compared some other posters. Cough is going nowhere though!

winterwonderly · 12/02/2018 06:38

Has anyone had really vivid nightmares with this virus? I had 2 last night and could describe for you exactly what happened, who was there, what was said etc. That never happens to me. Really scary things like losing my child. Horrible.

Anyone else?

treedragon · 12/02/2018 08:09

I’m finding that I sore ache all over when I wake up in the morning.

Week 5 begins

LittleSwede · 12/02/2018 09:23

I am definitely feeling down treedragon.

Trying to calculate if this is week 6 or 7 for me... started on the 2nd January so six weeks tomorrow? Brain had gone to mush with this virus.

Half term so no work for me (only work two half days a week anyway and only done four shifts since January, with instructions from boss to take it easy, or wouldn't have dragged myself in at all) but also means 3 yo is at home as no nursery, poor thing has been "raised" by CBeebies, Kindle and jigsaws over the past few weeks, when not at nursery.

Whilst all this has gone on we are in the last phase of a house extension so still living in dust and builder mess. Don't think it's helping with recovery. Over the last month DH has assembled and fitted an IKEA kitchen completely without my help as been completely unable to help with any DIY (let alone cooking, cleaning or any of the normal household tasks). Trying to feel excited by the house being nearly finished but can't see further than my sick den in temporary living room.

Went to GP Friday, upped steroid inhaler dosage and told to rest.

Will we ever get better?!? Anyone on the homerun who can give is some hope??

treedragon · 12/02/2018 09:37

Is anyone here several weeks on and still suffering with sore like body aches? Like you have done too much exercise?

LittleSwede · 12/02/2018 09:40

Got body aches on and off, some days I feel much, much better then it's back to square one the next.

Anyone else whose voice has been affected? I keep loosing mine and when I have it I keep having to clear my throat.

treedragon · 12/02/2018 09:45

That’s what I mean little swede the body aches recur.

I have a dry hacking cough that seems to radiate from the upper respiratory area

LittleSwede · 12/02/2018 09:58

I too have the dry hacking cough treedragon. When it started I thought I had bronchitis or an inflammation of the 'upper' windpipe (sort of lower throat and top of chest). Have you had the cough for the whole time you've been ill or has it come and gone?

Wasn't asthmatic before this virus but am on steroid inhaler to reduce the inflammation in upper respiratory area.

LittleSwede · 12/02/2018 09:59

By come and gone I mean that it keeps coming and going.

LittleSwede · 12/02/2018 10:04

SeniorRita, do you have someone who could pop over and check on you and maybe bring some essentials (if needed)?

treedragon · 12/02/2018 10:54

I have had the cough for most of the duration. It comes as a coughing fit and during the fit becomes painful and then produces an acrid taste.

What is this that seems to felt like it’s going then sneaks back up again. I don’t remember ever having anything like it and googling reasonable things like “recurring virus 2018” or “long virus 2018” produces nothing but articles about Australian Flu

Seeline · 12/02/2018 11:28

Woke up without a temperature for the first time in 8days this morning! Really hope the ab's are doing their stuff. Still coughing like mad - I think the phrase is productive.
Winterly - I had really weird dreams for several nights. Don't normally dream at all. I thought it might be the temperature.
I'm trying to draw up the energy to have a shower today. I can't remember when I last had one 😱

Lisette40 · 12/02/2018 12:02

I said to my husband that I appear to be missing a power cell. He raised an eyebrow and said 'only one?'. He thinks I'm shattered (and a bit depressed with the virus).

MaggieMay23 · 12/02/2018 13:01

I'm on my 6th week. I think I'm on the mend but I then start feeling a bit rough again. Today it's a runny nose and my right eye keeps watering - this is the same side that I had the sinus pain a week or so ago. I'm over the stomach bug of the weekend, but still a bit tender. @LittleSwede we're also having an extension done on the house and although the builders are really nice and polite I don't think it's helping as we're having them in and out of the house most days.

I want to get living again instead of being sat on the settee everyday since the new year.
