Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Activation of cold sores and split and dry lip skin
Sometimes an itchy rash
Eruption of spots on upper legs

Blood straked nasal mucus and phlegm
Sore gums
Tender facial glands
Diarrhea.

Loss of appetite

spidereye · 10/02/2018 14:19

I have been ill since Christmas, the cough was just getting better. Then last weekend, stomach a bit off, nothing major, followed by a couple of days of shivers, aches, now turned into the cold from hell, complete with aching face, drowning in snot, chesty cough and total lethargy

dontbesillyhenry · 10/02/2018 14:34

Still raging diarrhoea after every drink. 36 hours now

TheFillijonk · 10/02/2018 15:56

I had the lurgy 4 weeks ago, haven't felt 100% since and now I can feel the sore throat returning and I've got a vile taste in my mouth. FFS.

Moonflower12 · 10/02/2018 16:44

@treedragon
I have had all of those symptoms! Thank goodness it's the virus and not the plague as I had begun to suspect.
Today is my first drug free day and apart from knackered I feel relatively normal- 4 bloody weeks.

treedragon · 10/02/2018 18:02

I notice also my symptoms seemed to worsen or deteriorate from the evening onwards and at night.

SleepymrsE · 10/02/2018 19:53

To all those experiencing dodgy stomach issues, anyone getting blood & mucus with bowel movements (sorry if tmi - just deciding if it's likely to be another symptom of this virus or if I need to go to the docs)

dontbesillyhenry · 10/02/2018 20:11

No blood but always have mucousy bms. Just pure yellow water

treedragon · 10/02/2018 21:27

@SleepymrsE

I have so far not looked in detail.

SeniorRita · 10/02/2018 21:35

(sorry, forgot to mention I had nc from OutToGetYou, kept getting negative comments about username, which is a song, new user name also based on a song by same band!)

I have had liquid tummy a few days through this but am prone to it. No blood, though I get piles so I often get bleeding there when I have an upset tum.

Today I went for my weekly walk, had a headache by the end so napped most of the afternoon. I woke up with tummy ache today, which is pretty unusual for me.

SleepymrsE · 10/02/2018 21:44

Thanks for the responses. Currently laid in bed with hot water bottle for stomach cramps. Seriously fed up with feeling rubbish (as is everyone else on this thread I imagine).

WorkingMumOnTheGo · 10/02/2018 23:07

Still keep coughing I feel like I need to cough up loads of phlegm bleughhhh!!!

Backingvocals · 10/02/2018 23:14

Just adding my voice to this. I’ve been horribly ill for two weeks - illest I’ve ever been. Aussie flu I think. Finally went back to work on Friday and did ok but today went for a short walk and really could hardly make it home. Obviously my fitness has taken an absolute hammering as I haven’t even taken a step other than between bed and sofa for a fortnight. Plus I’m on antibiotics now for a post flu chest infection so maybe my breathing is still affected.

Final remaining symptom - coffee is now disgusting. So harsh and acrid - can not imaging enjoying coffee again.

Still glad I struggled out on my walk. Hoping to get a bit further every day.

Today marks the fifth week with now intermittent body aches.

One symptom that won't go away is the vile taste in the mouth.

Are long term sufferers of this still having issues with the taste?

HonkyWonkWoman · 11/02/2018 09:36

Sorry to all you 2/3/4 week virus sufferers. Thought I'd got away with it 😤
Had all same symptoms, raw throat, non-stop coughing.
Then started coughing mucous, going from yellow to eventually green????? (sorry tmi)
Got Amoxicillin, which in 2 days has made the mucous light yellow again.
I take 3 a day but even though I spread them out over the day, because it's a long time during the night, the mucous is going back to green in morning.
As I'm waking in the night anyway, should I have an extra one in the night, making it 4 in 24 hours and less days of taking them. To sort of zap it and keep it under control.
Any advise please!

MaggieMay23 · 11/02/2018 09:47

@treedragon Im 5/6 weeks in and seem to have lost the taste for red wine 🍷. That's bad! Rose is ok though.
I spent yesterday dozing on the settee after having some sort of stomach bug Friday with stomach cramps and vomiting. I've got an aching bloated stomach today.
This bug is like being put through an assault course you never know what's going to chuckled at you next.
I'm slowly on the mend, fingers crossed. I'm wondering if I should get some sort of tonic to build myself up - what do people think? Do they help?

user1471550643 · 11/02/2018 11:15

Hi can I join in .. I’m only on week 2 😕 never felt so rough. Can I ask if you are managing to work through it or are signed off work? After not having a sick day for 9 years I self certified last week but really can’t see me being able to go to work tomorrow.. will my Dr think I’m being a drama queen if I ask?

SleepymrsE · 11/02/2018 11:16

Thanks me33, I'll def head to the docs if it carries on this week. Today has been normal but stomach is still sore. Doesn't help that I had appendicitis at Christmas so all the coughing in weeks 1 & 2 pulled my internal stitches.

parrotonmyshoulder · 11/02/2018 11:19

My dr certainly didn’t think I was being a drama queen and told me to expect to fell unwell for some time. I haven’t got a note as I did 5 days self cert and now it’s half term. Totally unable to work - walking to the bathroom is now easy. Stairs not so much.

SeniorRita · 11/02/2018 11:24

No, take the Amoxicillin as directed, three during the day just take the last one before bed. The mucus gets darker due to being stuck together at night, not more bugs.

Re work, if you're sick then yes, get signed off.
I am lucky enough to work part time and when this hit I was at the start of six days off, then agreed with boss to work from home for a couple, then went in one day, then weekend, then back three days and am now in my six day gap again. Just annoying that my time off has been wiped by illness but I've not had to be off sick at all. I'm lucky my job can be done from home mostly too.

HonkyWonkWoman · 11/02/2018 11:52

Thanks! SeniorRita I'll stick with the 3 Amoxicillin per 24hr then.
Thought it might have been a silly idea!

Thank you everyone I will go and see the dr tomorrow. It certainly knocks you for six doesn’t it. I’m just shuffling from the bed or sofa to the bathroom and back at the moment. Even have to shower kneeling down. Pleased to know I’m not alone, though I wish you all as speedy a recovery as is possible with this thing
