Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Who here has had this a long time? I mean before Christmas and still suffering?

EUnamechange · 07/02/2018 20:12

Just hit the 4 week mark. Been feeling more human for 2-3 days, and finally my fever seems to have gone. Still get a bit croaky, throat still a little sore, and glands still up on my neck! I have a slightly bark cough, especially in the mornings.

Have managed to walk into town a few times now, but still not going near the gym. I'm back at work but finding it quite tiring.

What I did discover at the doctors is that a Virus can and often does lower your overall White Blood Cell count. The bit that fights infection. If that is the case it would explain why viruses of this nature are hard to shift if they actually reduced the capacity to fight.

treedragon · 07/02/2018 20:35

@EUnamechange

Did you have the issue with this where it feels like it is going but then recurs again and you feel you take a two steps forward and one back?

Carmel206 · 07/02/2018 21:10

was directed here from another thread - i think i am getting this, i had flu at Christmas, got better in New year then got a cold adn cough for a couple of weeks then better now i am feeling awful - headache, shivers, bones and joints ache and just so tired and floppy as thoroughly fed up!

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 07/02/2018 21:42

I've been ill for over three weeks now. I keep getting a bit better, then worse again. I can't tell if it's a series of different bugs or one very horrible virus.

Up until a few days ago it was a chesty cough, which was getting worse, and tiredness, throat a little bit sore. GP prescribed antibiotics and I was optimistic I'd be better in a few days.

Then today - BAM!- I have a horrifically sore throat, absolutely awful, am losing my voice and I feel shattered. Worst thing is I now think it's prob viral, so the antibiotics won't cure me :(.

My DC have been unwell the last few weeks and I'm praying that they already had this bug and gave it to me, rather than me giving it to them next week.

My little one was crying lots with a sore throat last week Sad

treedragon · 07/02/2018 22:00

This thing just won’t go. Is anyone here feeling they will be ill like this for ever now?

EUnamechange · 07/02/2018 22:46

@treedragon yes, after about the 2nd week I'd start to feel a bit better, then my fever would go back up, I'd get an upset stomach again etc.

I do think after 4 weeks I am now on the tail end.

SleepymrsE · 08/02/2018 06:04

Coming to the end of week 3 here. Felt much better at the beginning of the week but started with the upset stomach the last couple of days. This virus just keeps throwing one thing after the other at people.

springydaffs · 08/02/2018 08:55

I'm beating this bastard into submission re endless gargling (salt water, tea tree drops in water), spraying (covonia throat spray, Ultra Chloraseptic anaesthetic throat spray), covonia cattarh buster, sudafed.

Been doing this for at least a week if not more. I've had this bastard since before Christmas. I can attest that my nails are like flakey paper and my hair is like straw bundled on the top of my head.

Somebody give this bastard a name!

treedragon · 08/02/2018 09:04

I am not sure if it is part of the same virus but I ended up with a heady stuffy cold like part from last Wednesday until now. After a few days of feeling on the mend last night relapsed with body aches fatigue and dizziness. 4 weeks and 4 days now or 32 days.

Lisette40 · 08/02/2018 13:23

I thought it had gone but it's back. Hacking cough, sore throat, tiredness and I'm craving citrus fruits/ juice.

treedragon · 08/02/2018 13:36

I am starting to think that exertion triggers it back again. Mine seems to come back in some way when I have done activity. Maybe this only goes if you sit still for weeks on end.

Pluckedpencil · 08/02/2018 13:39

Fucking hell, I contributed to this thread a couple of weeks back with my sandpaper throat. I'm now coming into day 2 of what I thought was a new vomiting flu thing and thought I'd come see who else had it. Can't believe it's the same bastard people from two weeks ago having the same relapse as me!! Same with the kids. 8 days absence since Jan for DS but what can you do?!

LittleSwede · 08/02/2018 13:43

Had it since 2nd January, ended up in A&E on the 8th as had developed some form of viral induced Asthma. Ended up on steroid inhaler and asthma inhaler. Were staying with my mum in my home country at the time, had to book new flights for return to UK as too ill to travel. DH flew home thinking I'd be ok with my DM looking after me. Then my DM the got it and developed pneumonia. DD got it a day later and got sent to A&E again as floppy and 40 degree fever, was checked and ok but fever tops for a five days. Three generations of very poorly females under one roof!

Felt really weak for a good 3,5 weeks. Finally felt better weekend just gone, only to get worse again Monday. think it's a different virus on top of old one?!

Thoroughly fed up with this now.

Going to see GP today as feeling very wheezy again (like I did when being sent to A&E).

treedragon · 08/02/2018 13:54

The GP I saw yesterday said to allow about 12 weeks end to end for it.

Pluckedpencil · 08/02/2018 13:57

Fuck me, 12 weeks, so I'll be looking at mid April. Who has three months to dedicate to this?!

Australian Flu was mentioned yesterday and even though I said I’d had the jab in November the GP said it’s not fully effective against that strain.

I am sure I’ve found the connection between ignoring the fatigue and then it giving payback in terms of relapse.

I’ve actually gone back to bed now for some rest and really feel I need it. And I’m I’ve four weeks into it.

Lisette40 · 08/02/2018 15:06

I had the flu jab. I'm wondering if this is a milder form of flu or just some other virus.

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 08/02/2018 16:58

Gargling soluble paracetamol has been really helpful for my sore throat. They are called dissolvable paracetamol in pharmacies

winterwonderly · 08/02/2018 17:51

Oh goodness I have stumbled across this thread and seriously hoping this is not what I have Shock I have never had such a sore throat in my life, I'm literally crying when I swallow. Can't eat but am so hungry. I've got 2 kids under 2 so doing my best to try and keep them alive while I'm feeling so rubbish and just praying to all the gods that they don't get it.

I've had it since about 10th December. Cough slowing done to about five times a day, still breathless, chest pain( been in hospital) and very tired. Bloods normal😳

I keep popping back every now and then to see lots of people still suffering. It really is a horrible virus. I feel for those at the start of it.

Very scary as this happened to me about 8 years ago and I had a heart attack. Paramedics took me in ambulance on weekend. BP high and temperature 38.5 kept in until just after midnight. Had to get taxi home as no one ( friends, up then) been back in since. Erratic pulse, grey, palpitations.
