Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Popped back to say I am still coughing. Had it since December about 10 th.

Gets better then comes back so beware.
Affecting my heart now. Been to A& E. They said it IS the virus. Told me not to hesitate if it happens again😳

G1ggleloop · 06/02/2018 07:56

Ahh I've found my people. I starting with the aching shivering and sore throat on Friday night, spent the entire weekend in bed praying for death (thank god the OH was off work or who knows how I'd have survived). Yesterday and today I still have the horrendous sore throats, earache and headache when I move from the sofa. Plus I'm still exhausted. Despite having around 40 hours of sleep over the weekend I can't keep my eyes open. My brother developed it at Christmas and still isn't feeling right.

InterstellarSleepingElla · 06/02/2018 11:02

The eldest has now started with it - thought it was odd that she hadn't also caught it.

@Bowerbird5 that is a bit scary it's affecting your heart.

treedragon · 06/02/2018 14:01

Day 30 heralds a dry hacking painful cough. Fatigue also.

Blowing my nose creates streaks of blood.

treedragon · 06/02/2018 14:49

Does anyone here find that thier knees and feet ache or hurt with this - intermittently? Feels like a swollen ankle to me.

I am really getting fed up with this now and only being able to quarter function.

OutToGetYou · 06/02/2018 18:07

At the worst, I ached from my hair to my ankles. Only my toes were OK.
And often got shooting pains in joints, like growing pains.
My ribs and back ached so much I could barely twist on the loo to wipe my bum!

treedragon · 06/02/2018 18:55

I don’t think I have had something quite so horrid or indeed frightening than this.

I have experienced chest pains and also my blood pressure at rest is firmly round about 117/75 region but during this had risen to 152/80 something.

I can easily see how people can end up in hospital.

What I'm finding hardest is the chesty feeling that doesn't go away with anything I take, and believe me I've been throwing the lot at it. Now on antibiotics because of what it's doing to my throat and chest, but they feel futile so far. This is my second big wave. Stupidly, until last week I thought it had gone away, but no - as people are saying, it's not called Aussie flu for nothing, because like a boomerang it just keeps coming back :(

This time around the aches and pains aren't as severe but the feeling of living death is, that frustrating (scary) sense that this is just never going to get better. My throat burns, my nose runs (when it's not bunged up), my lungs are struggling, the cough is dry and spiky, the phlegm needs its own landfill, my head aches to fu*kery at times and my energy levels are pants. Come to think of it, even my pants hurt.

PrincessoftheSea · 06/02/2018 22:35

I have now been ill for two weeks. Coughing is tickly disgusting phlegm. I have also lost my voice. Anyone lost their voice? Its been gone for about a week. I am so tired of thisSad

treedragon · 06/02/2018 22:53

Touch wood my voice has not gone yet. Day 31 begins at midnight for me.

You are right that nothing seems to really touch it. A very powerful virus indeed.

I don't like the attacks of a cold feeling I get down my right hand side with shooting zapping pains from my shoulder to my finger tips.

My throat flared up again this evening for a while. I am not enjoyingmy food - stuffing it down as if I am filling an already overfull bin and forcing the lid on.

One issue is regarding eating that I actualy can't taste the food anyway - all I taste is some vile metallic odd taste in the mouth that even makes drinking water a horrid experience. I love a nice cup of tea but that tastes foul. My ankles hurt, my heels hurt, the backs of my legs hurt, my right hip hurts, my shoulder hurts. Then it will of off and the attack those areas again. It even make it hard to walk and when it was in the early stages I was unable to walk even around the home.

I have lost 6 pounds in weight and I can't really afford to do that.

PrincessoftheSea · 06/02/2018 23:04

How long should I leave it before I see a GP. I am travelling for work in a week's time and really don't fancy getting worse while abroad and sort of alone. The cough is tickly and not on my chest. I never usually go to the doc, but then I am never usually ill. I am pretty sure its viral in which case no point seeing a GP

OutToGetYou · 06/02/2018 23:05

GP on forth week if you've been coughing all that time.

PrincessoftheSea · 06/02/2018 23:11

Ok 2 weeks to go then. Thanks

treedragon · 06/02/2018 23:11

I am now 4.5 weeks in and will be seeing a GP tomorrow to discuss the length and severity of the symptoms. Particulalrly the issues with my mouth and I want to ask for a throat swab to check for any nasties.

When this first came on with the throat and cough I had intermittent spells where I think I could taste blood. Unsure if that was from the throat or perhaps bleeding in the nose or sinuses.

Autofill · 07/02/2018 08:24

Anyone had this affect one side more than the other? Now I’ve got lock jaw, sinus congestion and can’t raise my arm due to swollen glands but only on the right hand side??

NewBallsPlease00 · 07/02/2018 08:31

I'm never Ill and never off work, Exocet it's now day 4 sick and day 3 off work 😭😭😭

treedragon · 07/02/2018 08:32

@autofill

Yes my pain and zapping sensations have been predominantly on the right side. But it is my right side that has had the most wear and tear and injury over time. So I have concluded that the virus attacks the weaker bits.

My friend is asthmatic and do her chest has been hammered hard

Day 32 for me and still not right in the throat with the feeling of a cold coming on and have low level all over ache.

treedragon · 07/02/2018 10:55

So today for me it seems I have returned back to the recurrent nausea indigestiony stomach welling and bubbling symptom. Have no appetite today.

parrotonmyshoulder · 07/02/2018 12:55

I feel like I shouldn’t join in this thread as I’m only on day 5! Each night is worse than the last - I spent most of last night sitting up in the bathroom either holding my head or vomiting.
Painkillers seem to work in the day but only because I have succumbed to codeine now.
Having eyes open makes me nauseous, walking makes me nauseous and even listening to stuff seems to hurt.

treedragon · 07/02/2018 13:41

I don’t understand why this isn’t being reported on the news unless this is the Australian Flu.

I had a flu jab too back in November

treedragon · 07/02/2018 13:43

Day 5. You are only at the preface.

Yes. Bit of a waste of time really. It's a particularly nasty virus was the mantra. Can take up to three months to feel well was said which made my heart sink.

They have sent me for a chest X-Ray though which I have to book. But my chest is clear. It's the recurrence of aches and sore throat and the severe tiredness after just lifting a feather I am struggling with. You know when you just want to GET ON! Also they checked my temperature which was normal but I was sat there with the horrid nausea. Never really commented on the bad tast and said it was all part of it.

I think I can report that the feeling that my tongue being burnt has passed - unless that recurs again.

I'd like to know if anyone here has had the zappy stabbing pains in their hands as I have... As this is actually worrying me.

In fact the whole thing is now. Surely this could even affect someone's mental well being as it is now causing me anxiety as I felt unwell going to the doctors and just wanted to get home ASAP.
