All welcome - for anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat, so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss, but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

Hmm. She doesn't mix with many children other than her brothers/sister. I will view sandpits with a new horror now though. It's this kind of thing that makes people PARANOID. Good thing I'm not susceptible to the anti-bacterial/uber-hygiene crap, but I can sort of see how people get that way.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/04/2007 07:49

Hmm, but worms aren't actually a health risk, they're just gross. They pose no actual threat, iyswim.

I'm sure they can travel on toys etc, too.

You do know you have to treat the whole house, right? And be rigorous about changing bedding/towels and vacuuming in bedrooms, for a little while?

TooTicky · 27/04/2007 07:56

Yes, I made myself thoroughly miserable reading old worm threads last night.

sibble · 27/04/2007 08:18

Morning all, so sorry for you TooTicky - I am sure all will be well if you follow usual advice (and sorry to freak you further but it's usually a good idea to treat the whole family )

We are eating melon, pear, kiwi, raisins and plum, and looking forward to our fruit box delivery this morning

Sibble have a nice evening!

NQC sorry that tyre is still giving you bother. What a pain.

Filly if you are around have some more sympathy from us all

and dp has been investigating trainers and says Asics and ...oh dear, another one... I have forgotten, are tops for ethical buys, closely followed by New Balance and Saucony both of which are also very good apparently.

morning lovely melon-munchers.

I have a crap eye infection whichis affecting my ability to play on pc, read, watch telly, read ordo anything I enjoy...Am dosing myself on blueberries (are they the same as bilberries? Anyhoo, they have good antoxidant properties so...)

Yesterday had apple, banana, carrot sticks and blueberries, lentil soup, and chiken and chickpea stew (peppers, tomatoes, onions, chickpeas and muchrooms). Today am rather farty..'scuse I...

Today am awaiting T*o delivery van containing my lunch ingredients - smoked mackerel with a heeee-oooge spinachy salad. And eagerly watching my sprout yer own alfafa/mung bean thingies kit whichI sowed yesterday.

Cappuccino · 27/04/2007 09:48

well here I am I already in a mood

there was no skimmed milk so I could not have my oats and apples and raisins

I have to take dd1 to the sodding dietician so I miss my weekly Friday cafe smoothie outing with my friends (I will miss the cackling rather than the smoothie but still)

they are closing dd2's nursery (this has nothing to do with veg but still)

Overrun · 27/04/2007 09:51

Morning campers
I have only skimmed the thread I am afraid, we complete today, and move in 2 weeks, so I am slightly busy
Not too busy to eat fruit and veg, but a bit too busy to post about it at great length.
Yesterday, I didn't do that well, I added lots of grapes and a huge salad to my list, but that was about it really. Oh yes and Spinach on my pizza. I do recommend the frozen German pizzas from Lidl. I wouldn't vouch for them on the goodness front, but they certainly do well on the taste and cost front. I quite like making pizzas, but there are times when I just aint got the time
Today, an apple so far. But plan on more salad for lunch, and will think of something for dinner.
Any gardening tips appreicated, should look in on the gardenning thread. At present the garden is just lawn, and we plan to put borders in and probably a herb garden in the corner. Not quite enough space to grow veg, but will probably do tomatoes. We are keener on shrubs and trees than flowers, although are not adverse to them. The priority, is making a garden that is child friendly and wildlife (esp bird) friendly. Also environmently sound. We are going to use a compost bin, any tips gladly recieved Sorry for the hijack btw

TooTicky · 27/04/2007 10:16

Franny, that's really great to know about the Asics (although it is a pretty naff name for a company). Would be v. interested to know the other company when you remember it...
I am a hoarder of ethical info So is dd1, and she is not afraid to tell people EXACTLY what they are doing wrong. Wonder where she gets it from...

Cappuccino · 27/04/2007 12:28

ooh my running shoes are asics

how happy am I?

have got meals all sewn up today; have sausages, baked beans and mushroom concoction sitting in the slow cooker

might add some broccoli & sweetcorn to it when it gets served

might not

it's just that kind of a day - dunno if I can get into town to buy veg because now the men have turned up to install dh's beloved new shed

NotQuiteCockney · 27/04/2007 17:04

I am having a rubbish day. I think I have DS2's weirdo bug. I have pulled some sort of muscle in my ribs, that means that breathing hurts, as does pushing the pram.

One of the pram's wheels has gone flat. And I had no way to fix this today, so I pushed the pram with one flat wheel, all the way through town. While DS2 chatted away and didn't sleep.

He's still ill, but ok.

I've had muesli and a bit of banana, oh, and some ratatouille. I'll have tuna pasta for tea, and probably pomelo afterwards.

I think I'll start tea, then start a thread about this stupid pulled muscle thing.

Fillyjonk · 27/04/2007 22:18

oh am having crappola day with pissy everything. i am dangerously close to becoming a trustee of ds's school, it is impending (oddly its not one of those jobs that everyone leaps for )

I do have lots of wool (see other thread) so am going to drown my sorrows in that, i think

oh have had crappy day, have not eaten much at all really. oh feck thats not true, i shared a huge multipex size bag of kettle chips with dp. i also ate a small salad and lots of fruit, as always.

i did go to the gym for an hour and a half.

then i ate 5 pain au chocolate.

TooTicky · 27/04/2007 22:18

NQC, MUCH sympathy re the muscle. Ouch. Makes you feel as if you're dying, doesn't it?
This thread is suspiciously quiet today.
I have had raisins with my muesli, soup made with tomato, butter beans, edamame, wet garlic, onion and red pepper. Also some cucumber and orange.

TooTicky · 27/04/2007 22:19

Oh, hello Filly

Fillyjonk · 27/04/2007 22:20

then collapes into heap of despondancy
oh feck must go to bed have to do things tommorrow and have even more relatives here now

TooTicky · 27/04/2007 22:21
NotQuiteCockney · 28/04/2007 08:05

My pulled muscle is better, but I am not quite well. Today is a big MN thing here. I'm making faro salad, probably guacomole (if I can find some ripe avos), and an aubergine dip. I think that's it.

I doubt I'll get any exercise today, unless sewing up counts . Might try to take DS1 swimming tomorrow, he did well at swimming class at school, apparently, and they use arm bands, which we have, so I'm happy to take him out with them maybe ...

Fillyjonk · 28/04/2007 08:09

oooh are you sewing up?

godspeed to you

I no longer like such things,

NotQuiteCockney · 28/04/2007 08:13

I always hate sewing up, but am reasonably central, have loads of room, and don't care about people seeing my mess, so hosting is easy.

Oh, I got an email yesterday about my NCT job disappearing. I'm glad about it, as I took the job on the understanding it would Go Away, but also unhappy, as the change won't be good for the branch, and also because I've been doing a pretty good job of it, and fear whoever replaces me would do a worse job. (No, I don't want to apply for the job, it doesn't actually suit me, to put it mildly.)

NotQuiteCockney · 28/04/2007 08:16

(The other thing is, if I am not doing this job, I will have to find other things to do ... either sort out this house more, or find something else vaguely rewarding to do ...)

Fillyjonk · 28/04/2007 08:22

are you a bookings secretary or whatever?

yes have always avoided doing that most studiously

good luck with sewing up! me i'd be severely tempted to get the pringles in and waft about saying "do you want anything? gosh what a good job you are all doing" and generally being a Good Host

NotQuiteCockney · 28/04/2007 08:40

I am indeed a bookings secretary.

We already have at least one non-sewing person coming to hand out pringles, wrangle midgets etc etc.

I have to make dips now, and get things and vaguely tidy up a bit. I guess. Oh, and fix flat tyres, on everything.
