All welcome - for anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat, so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss, but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

oh yes, nqc, this was actually how we were alerted to the situation in the first place...

(well kind of. and now i have shared WAY tmi)

we have also tried leaving notes saying, basically, "bog off you 8&*&", and then she gets upset with us for being rude

Fillyjonk · 26/04/2007 08:55

(I mean notes in the drawers, obv)

NotQuiteCockney · 26/04/2007 08:58

Woah, you mean she found something (ahem) adult, and still carried on going through your drawers?

I'm sorry, I don't think I could have someone like that in my house!

NotQuiteCockney · 26/04/2007 08:59

And she had a conversation with you about the adult thing?

Dear god.

Wait, did DH pay you to tell me this so I wouldn't get so wound up by my (much much more reasonable) ILs?

Fillyjonk · 26/04/2007 09:06

lol at not being able to have someone like that in your house. Hmm. I cannot have someone like that in my house. hasn't really solved the problem thus far...

re the adult thing. no it was kind of worse. we had hidden...things...under dh's shirts and stuff.

she took all the shirts out and ironed them.

And then put them back, neatly folded.

And then told us that she was shocked that I didn't iron dp's shirts (it was very shortly after we were married, so clearly a change in roles was required)

NotQuiteCockney · 26/04/2007 09:07

Hmmm, I thinking finding adult things would put my MIL off snooping, but I can hardly leave piles of porn and sexual paraphanalia (sp) lying around ... I just don't have the energy for the resulting conversations with DS1, for one thing.

I think she probably would go through the kids drawers, but I wouldn't be offended by that ...

Fillyjonk · 26/04/2007 09:09

my MIL is pretty unstoppable

NotQuiteCockney · 26/04/2007 09:10

Mine is fairly difficult too, but DH does take stands. Most recently: getting her to keep the door closed while she's on the loo. In her house it's not such a big deal, because the loo doors always open out into hallways, but in ours, the loo door opens out into the living room.

I think DH finally managed it by threatening to photograph her on the loo.

(I don't mind if my kids see her on the loo. I only mine if I see her on the loo.)

Fillyjonk · 26/04/2007 09:12

oh pmsl, my MUM does that to dp. poor dp, we are all used to her

and, if possible, walks around nekkid.

She is generally highly prude-like so this wanton exhibitionism is a bit od an aberation

Cappuccino · 26/04/2007 09:18

Oh I love a good mil story

I would sit down with popcorn if I had the time (and if it was a veg)

your mil makes mine seem quite reasonable

though she is always offering to 'help' by ironing stuff that patently doesn't need doing, and then looks appalled that I think this is a waste of time

She also writes to her penpals with rude judgemental things on them about me, and leaves them hanging around her living room while they are in progress. Dh says he cannot challenge her on this one because apparently you are not supposed to read other people's letters even if they are left hanging around

Cappuccino · 26/04/2007 09:20

she also writes letters to her penpals

as the last sentence made no sense

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 10:19

LOL Cappucino your MIL should give my mum lessons, that is genius

my mother writes rude things about us in her diary and then gives the old diaries to my ds to scribble in

or the time-honoured and always effective method of bitching about me to my sister. Can take years but always comes back to me verbatim in the end

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 26/04/2007 10:26

Oh, yes, we have pointless ironing from MIL. Whenever DS1 goes to stay, he comes back with luggage nearly full of clean ironed folded clothes.

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 10:34

My MIL is hopeless slob so no chance of getting her to do ironing or little things like being able to have a bath at her house (you would come out dirtier than when you went in)

However my mum has habit of saying things like "you could just whip round those doors with some Ajax and they would come up all sparkly" and buying me cleaning products. I have asked her whether she is in the habit of doing this in her friends houses or just in mine, and what kind of reaction she feels she would get were she to try

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 26/04/2007 13:28

lol at Ajax

when I was a student the inspectors decided that our house cleaning was below standard

my mother's advice was to Ajax the skirting boards and clean the oven

bizarrely after doing those things we passed

now - I am about to eat my salad

NotQuiteCockney · 26/04/2007 16:17

Woo hoo! Go! Eat that salad!

I've had:

  • muesli (1)
  • one grapefruit and two big oranges (4)

Tea is rice, vegetarian stir fry, tofu (much to DS2's delight, he is tofu-obsessed.)

gscrym · 26/04/2007 17:27

I've had berry smoothie and dried fruit for brekkie, big salad for lunch and a big stirfry for tea. I've had bits of dried fruit during the day. I'm off to chop up some strawberries and wizz up a smoothie for tomorrow at work. It's probably going to lose it nutrients but DH does object to me using the blender at 4.30am.

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 17:45

Capp, if you haven't eaten it yet, I would chuck it tbh

Tofu is fab and I haven't been arsed to make it for ages

Gscrym where do you work? Could you take a blender in with you?

I have had a fab day - went to a CHILDREN'S PARTY where the food was all totally 10 / 10 ish - there were strawberries, pineapple, satsumas, tomatoes, cucumber, carrot sticks, and mixed green leaves. I ate loads. And then a large piece of cake.

Cycled there and back with the pod - the route to get there was totally shite so I came a long but more scenic and cycle-friendly way home. Enjoyed it but it was a bit epic in places. Saw a couple of blokes with another trailer who waved and whooped excitedly "TRAILER!!! WOOHOO!" LOL it was like having a VW camper all over again.

Ds sat chilled out in the back with his party bag and strange to say when we got home there were only 3 chocolate buttons left in the packet of buttons. "They were like that when I opened them, Mummy. I only opened them to see how many were in there." (I had asked him to save them until after dinner)

I work in a chemical plant. Everything has to be electrically tested and authorised before it can be used if it isn't battery operated (like a MP3 player or something). If I got caught using untested stuff I could get into a lot of bother. Seeing as they pay per item to be tested, they'd never go for it. I suppose me making my juice blend tonight is a bit better than taking in a carton of juice. I don't do shop bought smoothies either as they either have banana (makes me heave) or yogurt in them. I like yogurt but not to drink.

I'll take soup with me and loads of fruit.

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 17:59

Yeah shop bought smoothies are usually revolting aren't they? far too sweet, what is that about?

Ok, I was kind of joking anyway but I can see that you really cannot take a blender to work!

I am sure your freshly home made ones would have more nutrients in than a shop bought one, even if you do make them the night before

gscrym · 26/04/2007 18:02

I wish I could take my little blender in. I had to supply my own hairdryer as they couldn't get why standing under a hand dryer 6 feet up the wall didn't do it for me. It took me almost a month to get it back. I do love coming out of work in the middle of winter at 6 in the morning with soaking wet hair.

Cappuccino · 26/04/2007 18:21

I'd just take the fruit in tbh and not bother blending it

I'm alarmed to admit that I enjoyed my salad

however I am ravenous now

FrannyandZooey · 26/04/2007 18:25

Capp you can have a sticker saying "I ate my greens today"

can anyone help out on my leafy greens threads btw? It's in the food section
