For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information \link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthandsocialcaretopics/FiveADay/FiveADaygeneralinformation/DH_4001494 \here} (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

anthrax salad dressing eh?

sibble · 21/04/2007 23:24

find it hard to cook without garlic and chilli. when DH and I were in Spain (pre children) he ordered a starter plate of pimientos (?sp), I did try to warn him but he wouldn't listen, up turns the biggest plate full of every variety of chilli you can imagine. To his credit he did polish off 3/4 of it but by his own admission couldn't taste anything for the next 3 days

Ratatouille is a huge hit here too (sorry for the veggies on this thread but I love it with grilled chicken).

Here is the anthrax salad dressing thread.

I've had blueberry pancakes for breakfast. And some muesli. (2)

Ratatoille (w/ pasta) and beetroot and orange salad for lunch. Watermelon sometime. (5? 6?)

And (I think?) tuna pasta for tea? (tomatoes, onions). (2)

That's 10.

Of course it helps that I'm a) absolutely bloody starving, thanks to the mad running and b) trying to do low sugar, so I have to get the extra calories somewhere!

FrannyandZooey · 22/04/2007 09:18

I am eating grapes, raisins, apple, pear, kiwi (4.5)

out for lunch to P Express, will prob have a side salad with my huge lardy pizza

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 22/04/2007 09:25

How do you entertain at a birthday party? Do you get them all to do gymnastics?

FrannyandZooey · 22/04/2007 09:29

LOL no it is in my other guise as a singing dancing parachute waving lady

I get them all to wave pretty ribbons and sing nice songs etc. And that's just the Dads

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 22/04/2007 09:30

You are a singing dancing parachute lady?

(I thought you maybe had a good collection of loofahs and snakes, and went off showing those around? )

FrannyandZooey · 22/04/2007 09:32

eek no

yes I thought you knew about my singing dancing parachutitude

it's what I do on Wednesdays and Fridays in between wnaky baskets

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 22/04/2007 09:33

I could do with more ideas of what to do with a parachute, we have one at the co-op, but mostly I just turn it into a tent.

FrannyandZooey · 22/04/2007 09:35

I put some ideas on a thread recently...will find link

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 22/04/2007 09:40

few ideas here

for children under 5 I also do "weather report" where you all sit round and do "sunshine" - all lean back and pull parachute into big round shape, "gentle breezes" shake the parachute, "wind" getting stronger, "tornado" etc, "rain" make a tapping sound on taut parachute with fingers, etc, you get the gist

and I also just let them crawl on it, bounce stuff like beach balls and teddies on it, and crawl around underneath.

Oh and "ostrich" where you kind of do a mushroom, then get everyone to lie on their tummies with their heads under the parachute and their bums outside. From the inside you just see a load of amused faces. From the outside you just see a load of bottoms which has a humour of its own (don't do this in an outdoor public place )

We're 20 months to 3.5, so very much under 5. I'll have a glance, I'm on shift tomorrow, and new activities are always good.

FrannyandZooey · 22/04/2007 09:45

For that age I would do: let them sit on it, let them bounce something on it, let them run under it. Make a tent, sing song in tent, put it away

tell you what else goes with cottage cheese? pears

god I am on bleeding weightwatchers and it took NQC to remind me about cottage cheese

Ticky have not heard anything about any barefooted ladies, but do know the rocking horse shop - it closed last year though sadly, there were snivels among all the parents I know

I will wave to the canal boats as I run along the canal, if that is okay. Waving at the hospital may look a Bit Odd

I will try to make my wave look discreet, as if I am fiddling with my headphones

Cappuccino · 22/04/2007 10:32

at our under 5 dance doofer we all kind of flutter the parachute while the little ones walk on top of it

well the other little ones. dd2 likes to run off and play with the heaters

Overrun · 22/04/2007 11:14

I take it you are all talking about the type of parachute that is used in gym tots type of thing?
We have completely run out of fruit here, and I am really trying to save money by not going shopping every day (I just buy too much). At my parents for lunch, so expect there will be some nice salady things to go with the Salmon.
ER, thats pretty crap, I will report back later when I have some portions to talk about

filthymindedvixen · 22/04/2007 13:40

Tatties · 22/04/2007 17:53

Oh love, you can have some ((((((((hugs)))))))) from me... I know that crying hangover feeling well, horrid isn't it What happened at the party? Here have some more (((((((fruity hugs))))))) Hope you're feeling better soon.

I am feeling a bit upset myself today because of this - any advice would be gratefully recieved.

filthymindedvixen · 22/04/2007 18:13

I've left a post on your other thread, don't think you shoud fret about it, but I know what you mean about getting upset if they're ill.
Party things sounds mad in the cold light of day, but:
It was a very free-range kids do at a friends' house. one guy's infant dd got bitten by a pet rat, there was an awful lot of blood and she screamed for hours. After 20 mins of the screaming, I went up (i didn't know the dad) and offered my services having recently passed a St John's ambulance st aid course. I got politely told to naff off as ''it's all you women fussing making her cry''.

after another 15 mins, I went again to see if he would let me help - he was in shock (and quite drunk I feel) and he was rude again. Eventually someone else came and got me and asked me to do something and I managed to clean it, pad it and banadage it tightly to stop bleding. I wanted him to take her to A & E and got told i was being neurotic.
While I was doing this, my ds was involved in a nasty ruck with another child who had backed him into a corner. My DS reacted very badly and all fingers of blame were being pointed at him. Whilst I don't condone his behaviour, I could understand Why he had behaved like that - he had been scared and intimidtaed and fought back...I felt like if I hadn't been sorting out this injured child, this wouldn't have happened.

I dissolved into tears and had to leave the party. And I felt really angry at my ds and shouted at him

Today I feel such an arse, like I over-reacted and caused a scene. Tried to text the girl whose party it was and she hasn't responded. And I'm feeling just paranoid enough to feel I may have lost a friend...

Sorry to have hi-jacked this thread.

Fillyjonk · 22/04/2007 18:15

i am in a foul crappy mood, i can't say why cos there is a sporting chance that the other mum involves MNts, you never know, but I am SOOOO

and I am almost never with other mums

but whoah this has gone too far. I cannot STAND inflicting precious, playground, bitchy, girly politics on a 3 yo boy. Partly cos he's a boy.

OMG I am furious

BUT ONLY SLIGHTLY

ok fruit-check, veg-check. Bugger all exercise, today is study day, but will make up for it in frowning and expletives.

NappiesGalore · 22/04/2007 18:19
