Does Everyone Have a Long List of Weirdo Minor Problems? Or is it just me?

NotQuiteCockney · 03/04/2007 21:11

I get:

  • labyrinthitis, after a head cold
  • tracheitis, sometimes, no idea why
  • knee problems
  • foot problems
  • chronic excema, on hands and feet, very minor but itchy
  • minor asthma
  • very weird skin and mouth thrush, but only when pg

Is this just what getting older is like, you have a long list of strange larely untreatable illnesses that annoy you all the time?

I have a very rare syndrome called Olliers, which basically means that the bone centres in my hands don't work properly, so instead of producing bone, they produce excess cartilage, which eats away the bones. I get big lumps of cartilage appear and on x-ray my bones look like an aero. I've had three bone grafts so far (fron my hip so with my CS scar I look like some kind of map down there) and will probably need another in my thumb in the next few years.

hunkermunker · 04/04/2007 15:22

PMSL Meowmix! You fox you!

I'm allergic to plaster, yes, even micropore and that weird hypoallergenic spray nobody's allergic to.

bran · 04/04/2007 15:25

Oh go on Margo, you know you want to. It really is very painful and sudden, the first time it happened I though it was a haemorrage or something and I remember thinking that if I died I hoped that dh wouldn't tell my family exactly what had caused it.

SJ, I don't think it's tendonitis in my ankle as it's not up the back of my heel. It happens in various locations around my foot and ankle and never lasts for very long.

I forgot to add to my very long list, leg cramps, especially in summer/hot weather.

suejonez · 04/04/2007 15:27

travelling tendonitis bran?

Sunyshiny- genuine scaredy sounding illnesses are not allowed on this thread becuase then we all sound like the hypochondriaces we are.

suejonez · 04/04/2007 15:29

hunkermunker - me too on the micropore thing - an anaethetist once stuck every kind of plaster they had in the hospital up my arm (about 8 I think) during an operation so that she could not for the future what I wasn't allergic to. ONly some wierd stuff that looks like sticky cling film.

Sunyshineymummy · 04/04/2007 17:08

Yeah it does sound scary but in reality I have lumpy fingers and I get throbbing pains in my hands. Apparently it could get quite serious but as long as I keep an eye on it and get bone grafts when needed all fine.

hunkermunker · 04/04/2007 17:12

I've had the sticky cling film stuff too - am allergic to it.

Was scared I'd need an epidural during labour and die of "crusty blistered back" where they'd put the plaster [weirdo]

fortyplus · 04/04/2007 17:31

I'm very boring, tho I've recently had Endometrial Ablation, which sounds much worse than it is!

My bil has Ankylosing Spondyelitis - a fancy name for a form of arthritis.

ds2 had a period of going blind in one eye if he stood up too quickly - after much panic by me and several referrals to consultants, it turned out it was caused by disruption to the blood supply to his retina because he was growing so fast.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/04/2007 19:12

So, we're all freaks.

Oh, I've remembered that I'm violently allergic to some plant. Somewhere. I never find out what, as I have to run away quickly, blinded by the mad tears and runny nose.

I'll have to sit down and read the full thread later, but an ex of mine started passing out on orgasm, sometimes. No, not with me - he started ages later. Still, that's a doozy of a problem to explain, isn't it?

OP posts:
Walnutshell · 04/04/2007 19:30

Ohmigod, you ARE all freaks!
Reassuring though as a quick flick through this thread and a lot of ailments DH seems to have including (as it only seems polite to list):
excema on feet (well, that's the latest guess)
constant risk of ingrowing toenail
strange minor bumps on arms
migraines
sinus pains/headaches
dodgy knee from old rugby injury
occasional ulcers
recurring back problems
chafing occurs when in running phases (frequent and short lived)
numerous dental problems have occurred but are currently dormant
that male condition where whatever I am suffering he has just had (but worse)
misc. other random pains

I must confess to finding all these complaints rather irritating even though he doesn't complain too much whereas I'm 'dying' with a blocked nose. How very unreasonable of me. Maybe I should start a thread 'living with someone with a long list of weirdo minor problems' and we can bitch.

In his favour, perhaps I should mention that he has very good eyesight.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/04/2007 19:46

Yeah, we definately need a [weirdo] emoticon for this thread.

It has to be annoying living with someone with these problems, I know DH is a bit exasperated by it all, but generally sympathetic. Particularly as I'm reasonably tolerant of his occasional bouts of man-flu.

Have to add to my list
I fell over in the bath earlier and my arm, shoulder, knee, hip and buttock took the full force.

MrsWho · 04/04/2007 20:00

I'm allergic to plasters/sticky stuff too, spent an interesting(!) summer last year after putting one on (that ithought was fine) only for it to swell up so I changed it for a different(larger) one only to react to that too.Ended up for 6 weeks only being able to wear one set of flip flops (not ideal in my job kept having to leave them whilst I ran after kids ) Then they snapped on the beach

Also alleric to steel -that was fun when they stapled up my stomach after dd1!

dolly1972 · 04/04/2007 20:52

hi,
i hope someone can shed some light on this for me......my son has complained for a few weeks now that his legs hurt him (he is 6)
i keep telling him that they are growing pains, but he keeps moaning about them.

what do you think it could be?
tia dolly x

bran · 04/04/2007 21:06

I think you will get a better response if you start a whole new thread in Health Dolly. I'm afraid my ds is too young to have reached the growing pain stage yet, so I'm not sure.

Birdly · 04/04/2007 21:17

Here's my catalogue:

Slippery back
Slippery sacroiliac (got bad during 2nd preg and made worse by constantly going down water slides with DD at Center Parcs! )
Dermatitis on hands
Creaking and stiffening knees
Occasional eczema around the eyes (I look like a panda)
Used to have really bad IBS but much better now
Skin drying up generally
Occasional ache in right ankle due to falling off a kerb into the road when horribly drunk as a teenager
Strange lump in the crook of my right elbow
Occasional headaches, a migraine every now and again
Think am heading for menopause
And, finally, CONSTANT EXHAUSTION!!!!

hunkermunker · 04/04/2007 21:38

this thread's on the homepage. Kinda about my freakeries now!

suejonez · 04/04/2007 21:40

I am reassured that you are freakier than I am Hunker, (on the plaster front at least) so my freakiness will go unnoticed in comparison

NotQuiteCockney · 04/04/2007 21:41

I still think Twitchy Vulva wins, really. Although hm is definately a freak.

OP posts:
PelvicfloornomoreChocolate · 04/04/2007 21:42

Has anyone else noticed how lots of people on this thread have sacrocilliac trouble?
It is part of my back problem too .
Also i need to add my twitchy eye.

Dottydot · 04/04/2007 21:45

Now this is my kind of thread..!

I have:

PCOS

Graves disease - thyroid disease which has been blasted twice by radioactive iodine so now I'm underactive forever (free prescriptions though so you can't complain...)

Coeliac disease, which I've grumbled about many a time on MN

A lump behind my left eye which will need to come out as soon as my vision either goes in that eye or I start seeing things in black and white (can't wait ). Of course it's in a really awkward place so they might have to make a hole in my nose to get it out - eewwwwwww.....

Atrial and Ventricular ectopic heartbeats. Plus some kind of murmour thing which is being investigated but no-one seems to be too bothered with judging by the length of the time they're taking.

Very clicky joints!

hunkermunker · 04/04/2007 21:46

Nice to have my status as freak confirmed by the person who started the thread

PelvicfloornomoreChocolate · 04/04/2007 21:48

Shit i'm not copying you honest but also remembered my own clicky joints.
The dd's seem to have inherited them too as they both failed the hip test when small babies, the gp could only attribute it to them following their gammy mom.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/04/2007 21:50

Hey, you know you're in trouble when the bald lady (who talks about sex all the time) calls you a freak

Dottydot, some of those are serious problems! Anything anyone might ever operate on you for doesn't qualify for this thread, I'm afraid.

OP posts:
bran · 04/04/2007 21:51

Really NQC? I thought I was onto a winner with the orgasm headache, do I at least get second place freak honours for the longest list (I hadn't even included my twitchy right eye when I'm tired or the sharp bit of bone/cartilage sticking out of the back of my ear, plus many other minor irritations).

Dottydot, that eye operation through the nose has just made me shudder.
