Experiences of parents with unvaccinated babies/ children

Hi there,

I'm a first time mum who lives in Kent and my DS will be coming up for 8 weeks. After quite a bit of research (and prayer might I add) my husband and I are leaning towards not giving our son any of his vaccinations at all or at least as early as 8 weeks.

I'm interested to specifically hear from parents who have older babies and children that are unvaccinated. What have your experiences been of not vaccinating your child? What has their general health been like? Have you have to isolate them at all/ be careful where you went? Do any attend nursery or school? Do nurserys even take unvaccinated children (excuse my ignorance lol)? Have they been more susceptible to illnesses or caught anything major? If you feel able to share, what were your reasons for not vaccinating?

If anyone is able to share their views on any or all of these questions - would be interested in hearing from you.

Many thanks

Penicillin has saved more lives in a hundred years than prayer did in ten thousand.

I'm sure you will do as you think best.

SaltyMyDear · 03/06/2017 06:29

Also be aware that GPs get paid more if X% of their patients are vaccinated. So they are VERY keen to get your child vaccinated.

SaltyMyDear · 03/06/2017 06:30

Testicles if you'd read the blog, you would have seen the link to the paper in it.

But here it is for you: www.cmsri.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/MawsonStudyHealthOutcomes5.8.2017.pdf

Ceto the study was comparing vaccinated vs unvaccinated children! It was comparing the % of children in each of the 2 groups who had all of those conditions. It does not matter one bit, for the study, that in the whole population there are more vaccinated children.

Mrscog What this study shows is that a better, larger scale, study needs to be done. No study is definitive. This shows much more needs to be done in this area.

Instead of criticising this study, you could try to find out why larger sample studies haven't been done yet......

i suffered from the usual childhood diseases as a child. measles, german measles, mumps and chicken pox. the german measles meant delaying life saving heart surgery i was scheduled for. a girl in my class at school was hospitalised with measles and missed 2 full terms at school.
skip a generation forward an an unvaccinated girl in my nephews class ended up blind from measles. try justifying that to your child

bigbuttons · 03/06/2017 06:36

My youngest 5 are also not vaccinated because of experiences I had with my eldest.
The youngest 5 had measles and are fine. I couldn't take the risk that they would be affected like my eldest and the dr's understood when I talked it though.

So having skimmed the paper Salty can I ask if you have any links to papers that have not been funding by anti-vaccination groups?

Funding sources
This study was supported by grants from Generation Rescue, Inc., and the Children’s Medical Safety Research Institute, charitable organizations that support research on children’s health and safety.

Even the conclusion states: Nevertheless, the study findings should be interpreted with caution.

SaltyMyDear · 03/06/2017 06:45

And here's a study about SIDS done on vaccinated vs - unvaccinated children: vaccinepapers.org/high-mortality-dtp-vaccine/

"The primary result was that the DTP vaccine was associated with a 5-fold or 10-fold higher mortality rate."

SaltyMyDear · 03/06/2017 06:52

testicles no other studies have been done. Why is that? Does that not concern you?

In other words, there has been no study done of vaccinationed vs unvaccinated children which found vaccinations are safe.

Of course the conclusion states more research needs to be done. That's a standard line virtually every scientific paper contains.

Regardless of how much you've prayed, you also need to educate yourself. This is a massive gamble, by not vaccinating you put others at risk too. Please read up on herd immunity. The video on this page illustrates it nice and simply:

So. I'm a first time mum of a baby that is 8 weeks old. And I've decided that I'm not go wrong use a seat belt on their car seat. I've done some research andesome praying.

Can anyone tell me there experience of not strapping your child in?

I mean I knew a guy who didn't wear his seat belt and got in an accident and the firemen said "if he'd been wearing his seat belt he would have died

Sounds Ridiculous right?

THAT'S WHAT YOU SOUND LIKE.

Protect your child.

bloodymaria · 03/06/2017 07:02

there has been no study done of vaccinationed vs unvaccinated children which found vaccinations are safe.

So...what? We're poisoning our children with vaccines at the expense of the NHS for the purpose of what exactly? I'm all for a good conspiracy but anti-vaxx thinking just seems wilfully ignorant to me.

TesticlesInTheBlender · 03/06/2017 07:02

Salty - no it doesn't. Both studies you have referenced are poor with numbers far too low to have any epidemiological significance.

I think in a modern world thee is something fundamentally different about parents that choose not to vaccinate, so you'd need to be very careful that there weren't other differences that were causing these outcomes around allergies and autism (if they are true)
Then simply look at the mortality rates and the complication rates of the diseases being vaccinated against in the past and consider if a bit of hayfever is worth it to not get, diptheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella.

WellErrr · 03/06/2017 07:09

binary 👏👏

Although I've reported this

LapinR0se · 03/06/2017 07:09

Love that website francis

mummabubs · 03/06/2017 07:10

@TesticlesInTheBlender with you on this 100%. Re: the appalling line of MMR with autism it's worth bearing mind that the person who initially made this link (Andrew Wakefield) was struck off the medical register in the U.K. For his work in this area as he was found to have fabricated data.

As others have touched on too there are a small number of children who are genuinely advised not to have the vaccines due to compromised immune systems- these people rely on others around them having been vaccinated to protect them from harm. Please listen to science, evidence and reason here OP. You'll make whatever decision you wish to but for what it's worth I urge you to vaccinate your child.

HipsterRaccoon · 03/06/2017 07:10

The problem with that study is that it could equally be showing that anti-vaxxers fail to get their children diagnosed... I can imagine that if I was an anti-vaxxer I would have no interest in getting my child diagnosed with adhd for example (as I wouldn't believe in labels /medication), would be more likely to home school, etc, etc meaning that neuro-behavioural issues wouldn't be picked up by others.

WellErrr · 03/06/2017 07:11

Whilst it's here though, the anti-vaxxers may find this website compelling - www.howdovaccinescauseautism.com

Theducksarenotmyfriends · 03/06/2017 07:12

Op here's an example of an entire community who decided against vaccination (and presumably also relied on prayer) www.google.co.uk/amp/s/psmag.com/.amp/social-justice/minnesota-measles-outbreak

Why wouldn't you vaccinate? What research have you done? Do you mean a couple hours looking on the internet? Do you really think that compares to peer reviewed scientific papers written by experts in their field?

Theducksarenotmyfriends · 03/06/2017 07:14

And salty, there is no link between vaccines and autism. Even an anti vax group who funded a study into it could not find any evidence. www.iflscience.com/health-and-medicine/anti-vaxxers-fund-study-finds-zero-link-between-vaccinations-and-autism/

Taylor22 · 03/06/2017 07:14

Do you love your children? Do you like it when they breathe? Do you want to bury them?

Don't be a dick. Vaccinate.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 03/06/2017 07:15

salty

absolutely nothing else happens if you don't vaccinate

You can thank all the parents who do vaccinate their children for that.
