Wasn't sure what to call this thread , for those of us currently on a weight loss programme of some sort.
At my third weightwatchers weigh in tonight I had lost just one pound but that's fine, considering the amount of Coronation chicken I scoffed at a friend's house yesterday.
Got a bit depressed today when I saw some pictures taken of me about 15 years ago when I was young and about three stones lighter...

Oh no - big disaster (well, feels like it). Finally those last 2 pounds went and I thought I was no longer medically overweight. Hurrah!
But, I knew my scales were a little on the unreliable side, so I trotted off to Boots to jump on the big electric no cheating type scales.

On Boots scales I am 1 stone and 1 pound heavier than on my own!! Arghhh - I've got a long long way to go

Trying to look on the bright side - I have lost 12 pounds already - and I never had to know just how overweight I really was.

Can anyone recommend some decent scales that won't break the bank?? Or should I do the embarrassed shuffle at Boots once a week?

Leander - 1 1/2 pounds a week is great! 3 packs of butter!

salalex · 23/07/2002 13:02

Jasper, Will you be able to trek across from the east for an Edinburgh meet up? Especially as you will be all svelte by then!!

Bozza · 23/07/2002 16:24

Sorry for your disappointment BlueBear. I have found that the scales at my gym consistently weigh me half a stone heavier (in exercise gear and trainers) at lunchtime (before lunch) than my own scales at home in the morning (in dressing gown).

bluebear · 23/07/2002 16:57

Thanks for the sympathy Bozza - I was sort of expecting half a stone difference due to clothes and time of day, but over a stone could not be ignored. I haven't decided whether to buy new accurate scales or just to pretend that mine are okay. (I'm sure there's a market for scales that make you a stone lighter than you really are!)

Bozza · 23/07/2002 17:06

At least I know that my scales are consistent. And today I am at my "pre-pregnancy and dieted to be a bridesmaid" weight. This is according to both sets of scales which were also in use back then. Since I must have been about 31/2 stone more than this immediately after giving birth I am pretty pleased. Must endeavour not to reward myself with a huge pig-out....o)

Bozza · 23/07/2002 17:06

Sorry that was supposed to be a grin o:

Bozza · 23/07/2002 17:07

Try again

leander · 26/07/2002 07:39

Another 2lbs this week i got my silver 7 and under the 11 stone mark so im well chuffed.

Deborahf · 26/07/2002 10:02

Hi All

I've been following this thread for a while to get some encouragement - thanks. I finally rejoined Weight Watchers in the middle of July and when I weighed in last Wednesday I'd lost a total of 7½lbs. Really pleased. Only a 2 stone to get back to pre-baby weight and then it's on and downwards to target weight. It's going to take a while

It's a real buzz to get that silver 7 and I've also just found the on-line WW site - and it's a great help to me. Can anyone explain why it's so easy to pile the weight on and so hard to get it off again!! Oh well, back to healthy eating.

Deborahf · 31/07/2002 15:21

Feeling really pleased with myself - lost another 2½lbs this week - helped largely by the incredibly hot weather. How's everyone else doing?

leander · 31/07/2002 15:25

Congrats Deborahf 2 1/2 is great I've got my weigh in tomorrow but I've been terrible this week i've had the munchies all week and craved chocolate so not expecting a loss tomorrow!

jasper · 31/07/2002 17:35

1 1/2 off this week - a stone in total

Lindy · 31/07/2002 17:47

Another person sheepishly joining this thread - I have two & a half stone to lose & can't put it down to having a baby as I have had a weight problem since my teens!! Know every diet under the sun & have been to numerous slimming clubs (am even a Gold Weightwatcher member - fat (!) good that does me!!).

Started new 'healthy eating regime' on Monday by throwing out half a cheesecake that I had been scoffing over the weekend and have been fairly good so far. I know that I need plenty of exercise to lose weight so I have re-joined my aerobic class twice a week (wonderful creche for DS) and also aim to do a four mile walk most days. Also reduced wine consumption from almost a bottle a night to two glasses - ashamed to admit that.

Thanks for everyone else's tips & advice.

bluebear · 31/07/2002 18:28

Well done Jasper and Deborahf.
I think I've lost another 2 pounds which makes a stone in total (although still not certain due to dodgy scales).
Even managed not to pig out at ds's birthday party, although I had to send the remainder of the goodies to dh'd office to keep them away from me and my negligable willpower.
My clothes are feeling looser and I think my tummy is getting flatter - maybe due more to my nightly sit-ups and exercise than the dieting.

leander · 31/07/2002 18:46

Well done Jasper

WideWebWitch · 31/07/2002 19:46

OK, I'm well and truly joining you. Was asked if I'm pregnant today!!! NOOOOOO! I'm not, just fat. Have determined to give up wine for a month and walk a lot and see if that helps.

IDismyname · 31/07/2002 19:46

Well here's another sheepish addition to the WW club! Have avoided WW like the plague before now, as I hate this "We're all in it together" mentality, and I'd rather be at home doing it alone.
However, week one has passed, and I'm 2lb lighter. I have 21lbs (1.5 stone) to lose before Christmas, minus the ones I've lost this week.

So congratulations everyone on their losses!

PS Can anyone tell me why another woman who joined last week in my "class" lost a whopping 6.5lb this week?? I was gobsmacked!

mears · 31/07/2002 19:53

Well done to everyone - I remember especially when you started Jasper and losing a stone already is fantastic. I really need to start but despite busting out my jeans I haven't been able to get motivtated to join (again). Maybe the motivation fairy will visit tonight

Lindy · 31/07/2002 20:14

Fms - she probably has a lot to lose - I remember losing 7lb the first week I re-joined WW after having a baby (I was still b/feeding & was incredibly strict) - but remember, the slower you lose it, the longer it keeps off!

WWW - good luck with your intentions to give up wine for a month, I tried one January as a new year's resolution & was ashamed that I couldn't do it.

aloha · 31/07/2002 20:38

Ok. could really do with some help here. It was my wedding anniversary on Monday and everything I tried on made me look like a pig in a dress. I am at least 2stone over my pre-baby weight and I have to get back to weighwatchers and my local meeting is on Thursday. I am a Mumsnet Addict so I am sure that if I don't go and don't lose any weight I will have to leave in shame and nobody will ever get the benefit (?!) of my advice ever again. So please help. I have zero willpower and an addiction to chocolate biscuits and - oh the irony - often write about health issues. See after Thursday...

ionesmum · 31/07/2002 21:32

I'm here too, after getting back dd's baptism photos and realising that I am too ashamed to put any of them on display owing to a huge double chin problem. Dh "helped" by pointing out that in some of the photos I'm kissing dd so that my chin isn't visible, so obviously I will have to kiss dd in every photo that is taken from now on.

Trouble is, I'm in the sticks and getting to a weekly class is going to be difficult. Does anyone have any experience of those slimming clubs by post?

Willow2 · 31/07/2002 23:16

WWW - hope you gave them a xxxxxx good slap. Thought you looked fab on Saturday!

tigermoth · 01/08/2002 09:13

Willow2 and www I saw you both on Saturday and thought you both looked fab!

At each meet up I've been to, I've met people who post on the diet threads here and they look absolutely great to me, whether they have lost or are still trying to lose it. None of you look even a tenth as flabby and unhealthy as you (sometimes) describe yourselves!

Go on, get those chocolates out now

Bozza · 01/08/2002 09:36

Ionesmum photos can be unflattering in this respect even if you don't have a double chin. I tend to look down on photos (ie towards DS) but if you look up as you would to give a kiss then its much better. So it doesn't mean you're fat. I am fresh out of a portrait session for my in-laws wedding anniversary present and was told to lift my head - the photographer wasn't so tactless as to explain why but I'm sure thats the reason. I'm dreading getting the proofs back though....

Copper · 01/08/2002 10:20

I had one week off, just one week, after staying the [boring and dispiriting] same for a month - and put on 2.5lbs. Life is not fair. After 12 weeks I have taken off only 7.5 pounds. And I am cycling over an hour a day ... Grrrrrr
