Hi
I'd be glad of any advice or personal experiences here. I am around 4 stone overweight, so definitely obese. Most of it is on my stomach though, which now looks like I'm 11 months pregnant with triplets. I'm in my 50s so this is not a possibility. It's very painful and I am short of breath when I walk etc.

I've put on a lot of weight in a short period - 10lbs in 2 months.

Six months ago I was bodyboarding in the sea, walking every day and doing an exercise class every week. Now it's a struggle to do anything.

I'm having bloods done on Friday but any ideas / comments? Am I just unlucky to pile it all on in one place?

I do hope you get news of some real progress today. Your surgeon sounds great. Thinking of you. I know this might not help, but have you thought of ringing the online Maggie's Centre support line? You have to register online to access the advice centre, but this is staffed by experts during office hours and there is an out of hours advice service as well. They may have some practical help to offer.

Whoknew and all

My consultant rang me again this morning. He really is a lovely man.

I've activated the private insurance and the op is now on Friday... [why isn't there a scared emoji??]

It was so easy. I should have done it before really. I'm so relieved - and petrified. Apparently the op is going to be 8-10 hours long....

The cancer team offered me a 'holding' chemo earlier today, but that was absolutely not what I wanted.

I'm probably going to ramble incoherently for the next day or so. I know you lot will be holding my hand and sending good vibes to me. I will probably have virtual conversations in my head with you all as I recover!

Great news about the op. Once that's done that a major step to being cancer free. We will be virtually holding your hand the whole way.

SevenTillFour · 04/07/2017 14:41

Great news, TQ1. We will all be thinking of you.

Jetcatisback · 04/07/2017 14:45

Twitter I hope the op goes well and I'm sure there are a lot more lurkers like me wishing you well Flowers

sodablackcurrant · 04/07/2017 15:16

Wishing you well OP, I'm coming out of lurking and empathy and a few tears, since I know all about advanced Oc sadly.

If you can get chemo privately go for it. NHS is great for the surgeries and all that, but sometimes you have to just call in your premium for drugs and the like and keep it going.

Not everyone can do this so I feel shit for saying it. But however.

Best of luck to you. Long road. But it will be ok in the end.

DevonLodger · 04/07/2017 16:34

Well done for taking this step. You have absolutely done the right thing. I was told my operation would be 8-10 hours. In the end it went very smoothly and was about 6. Like you I simply wanted the cancer out. Afterwards you can take stock of what and where you go but for the moment you just need to focus on Friday. Good luck.

Pennina · 04/07/2017 17:02

TQ. So pleased to hear this and it is absolutely the right thing to do and I'm glad you were able to use your insurance - that's exactly what it's there for. A dear friend of mine had her surgery done privately for breast cancer and the after-care was fantastic. We all here for you, lurkers and posters there are many of us here that are thinking of you and routing for you. Your consultant sounds amazing and you sound like you will be getting the best of care with him. How fantastic to phone you! You are clearly a priority for him. I'm sure the next few days will be an anxious time for you but we're all here for you. Pen xx

mustbemad71 · 04/07/2017 22:53

Delurking to send heaps of positive vibes TQ. Hope you get home to your gorgeous girls as soon as poss after the op. I'll be thinking of you on Friday. Flowers

whoknewitwastrue · 04/07/2017 23:51

Really pleased to see you're booked in for Friday. Scary but a hugely positive step.

Sure they will talk you through pain relief etc but is usually an epidural initially so you'll be comfortable and pain free.

My top tip - stick to water to drink for the first 24hrs. So many people vomit tea back up because of the milk.

BarchesterFlowers · 05/07/2017 06:54

You had dropped off my threads TQ. I am so pleased that this will be happening this week.

What an awful experience you have had though, the NHS is fab, the systems within are not are they. Enough of that though, onwards and upwards.

Will your lovely consultant still be involved or is it a new team?

Positive vibes from me too. Flowers.

Nix32 · 05/07/2017 07:05

That's great news. Sending positive thoughts x
