(Ex A&E nurse btw)

IAmNotTheOneWhoKnocks · 31/12/2016 11:02

Where are all of these mythical walk in centres?

In London they're everywhere. There's one a 5-minute walk from my house, and another a 5-minute bus journey straight down the road.

I'm not sure if they're open at weekends though.

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/12/2016 11:08

Really, IAmNot?? Our closest was Westminster and that closed years ago. I think there is still one in Soho?

babymouse · 31/12/2016 11:09

OP I hope your DH is ok - take care Brew

BikeRunSki · 31/12/2016 11:11

We have a walk In degree, in a town about 10 miles away (Wakefield). It is actually rather good, and because of where it is located can serve quite a large area of West Yorkshire. It is useful, as it can take several weeks to get a GP appt in my village.

MountainPeaks · 31/12/2016 11:11

MrsSchadenfreude There is one at St Charles Hospital and one at Charing Cross Hospital.

I think Westminister is now based in a GP surgery - they have three which they rotate through on the weekends. Unless this service has closed down too (shame as they only opened it last year).

BikeRunSki · 31/12/2016 11:12

"Walk in degree" = "walk in centre"

WellErrr · 31/12/2016 11:12

We dont have a walk in either.

GP or A&E

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/12/2016 11:14

Soho is the only one in Central London. There is one in North London, but don't appear to be any in South London. Urgent Care/Minor Injuries in Guy's, but that's about it.

LBOCS2 · 31/12/2016 11:15

There's a walk in centre in Croydon, and one in Beckenham that I know of off the top of my head.

SoupDragon · 31/12/2016 11:17

I believe there's a Croydon walk in centre in the town centre, an Urgent Care centre at Purley hospital, Minor Injuries in New Addington and OOH at Croydon Univresity Hospital. I have been to all of them!

LBOCS2 · 31/12/2016 11:20

X-post Soup :) I'd forgotten about Purley, and didn't know about New Addington which is daft as we live just the other side of Forestdale!

oldlaundbooth · 31/12/2016 11:21

Hope he's OK OP xxxx

intheknickersoftime · 31/12/2016 11:23

Im pretty rural and the walk in centres I know of are probably the same distance as a and E. Your GP practice should be able to tell you where your nearest one is but if you don't drive it may be difficult to get to one.

PinkSwimGoggles · 31/12/2016 11:26

our gp (the automated message) just tells you to call 111 or to go to a&e.
nothing about where the nearest one is.

MrsWicket · 31/12/2016 11:29

Glad to hear you're at the hospital OP. My DH was admitted just before Christmas with pneumonia - he'd been to the docs twice beforehand. The hospital were 'you should have come in earlier', but I suspect like most people, DH didn't want to be a nusience and burden the over-stretched hospital.

GreatNorthern · 31/12/2016 11:31

I want to know why he weed in a tumbler :) Just to post on here?

Hope he's okay anyway!

IAmNotTheOneWhoKnocks · 31/12/2016 11:31

MrsSchadenfreude I may have been a bit presumptuous, but in my area (East London) there are plenty.

OH is from SE and has one within 10 minutes walk too.

Mermaidinthesea · 31/12/2016 11:32

On call doctor asap. I'm a nurse and I wouldn't see that as an emergency but you do need medical advise without hanging about.

mowgelijeffs · 31/12/2016 11:33

Go to hospital with specialist urology dept immediately. Don't go just to any old A&E. It is worth checking which one in your area has this.
(This is coming from someone with serious kidney problems)
Get well soon.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 31/12/2016 11:34

I took my 5yr old daughter straight to kids a&e when she out of the blue started wearing that colour, she had serious kidney infection. Always better to get things like that checked out. Hope he's ok OP!

Mouseinahole · 31/12/2016 11:35

There is a walk in GP in the centre of Manchester but I don't know of any in rural Shropshire where I live. I'm glad OP has gone to A&E they wouldn't have skipped the queue for triage if they weren't concerned.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 31/12/2016 11:36

I hope he's ok OP... I would definitely have gone to A&E with that!

Quarterlifecrisis27 · 31/12/2016 11:37

If you call 111 they will usually make you an OOH appointment at your nearest clinic. Usually the same day.

Agree I wouldn't go to A&E for that but would try to get an appointment today.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 31/12/2016 11:39

I had a tiny bit of blood in my wee and it was a very painful kidney infection. Your DH needs to be seen ASAP. If 111 can't refer to an out of hours GP today then I would go to A&E. And take the sample with you. Hope he's OK!
