On a thread where somebody is asking for urgent medical advice, before one tells the poster that they should absolutely in no way go to A&E and that people like her are the reason for A&E struggling nowadays, then YES, one should be 100% certain that one is correct. That is just basic common sense.

In an ideal world, nobody should listen to bad advice. But unfortunately they sometimes do. Which is why I think not assertively giving bad medical advice actually is something one should take personal responsibility for.
Mozzchops was only one example of a vocal subset on medical threads who insist that unless you are spurting large quantities of blood or similar, you must not trouble A&E because it's really busy and the system is cracking because of people like you. In fact, the the people most likely not to go to A&E when they really need to are people who worry most that they will cause undue trouble to others. If you are the kind of person who goes to A&E for a mild sore throat, you probably won't be asking for the wisdom of mumsnet before you set off.

zoemaguire · 31/12/2016 20:29

Anyway - I really hope your DH is ok BalaRua Flowers

trinity0097 · 31/12/2016 20:35

I asked advice the other day about going to A and E and I'm glad I did, I ultimately ended up ebing admitted with gallstones. I had been trying to be stoic about it, but I'm glad I did go in the end. I also used my GP and 111, but in the end the 111 doctor said to go to A and E as home pain relief wasn't working.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 31/12/2016 20:36

Agreed MrsTerryPratchett. I got a right royal bollocking off my GP when I ended up in resus. It was the most bizarre conversation being told off for not booking an emergency appointment for what I thought was just a head cold. (Asthma & it wasn't).

OPs DH clearly couldn't wait until Monday when the GPs all opened again and wee that colour needs to be seen asap as the triage nurse at OPs A&E obviously thought too.

I agree with you about not everyone goes to A&E when they should too. Thing is as well some walk in centres / urgent care centres can be just as useless trying. Last time I was there with a chest infection , my obs were fine so I was deemed safe to wait. Nearly 3 hours later and the doc was yelling for a nurse to grab a nebuliser.subsequently over the next few days I was up in A&E and then the admitted to the hospital anyway.

Always better to be safe than sorry and the OP did just that.

PunkrockerGirl · 31/12/2016 20:38

Hope everything's ok Op and your dh is getting the correct treatment. Hope you're being looked after too.
Remember there's an awful lot of armchair medics on mn they can diagnose a thyroid problem regardless of blood test results and their doctor's interpretation because they really, really know their stuff Hmm Grin
Ignore.

CherrySkull · 31/12/2016 20:40

i went to the OOH initially with my kidney pain, they ran me straight around to A&E after seeing the state i was in (screaming in pain by the time my dad picked me up, took me there and i'd waited for my appt)

Within 20mins i was being taken by ambulance to another hospital for an urgent CT.

The dr later told me i should have taken abdominal pain straight to A&E

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/12/2016 20:41

Pixies this one was asthma as well. Poor boy couldn't breathe and still clearly didn't want to worry anyone Sad And they were apologizing to me!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 31/12/2016 20:51

It's bot always about not worrying others though. If the poor bot had had the same experience I've had he probably didn't want to. My respiratory nurses have categorically told me to avoid A&E in future. Not because I dont warrant it but because I dont present like a 'normal' asthmatic I'm very unlikely to get the care I need. The resps nurse can arrange for me to see a consultant on the resp assessment ward and we go from there. They assess me properly (most of the time) and I dont take up an A&E bed.

I've only ever presented myself for stomach pain and vomiting once at A&E (bad reaction to antibiotics) and was triaged immediately. If I'd have asked on Mumsnet I'd have probably been told it was a virus / stomach bug. I think that's why some people are rightly saying that we need to be more careful about what we advise some OPs. Yes it is just opinions but it's opinions that someone may take as face value, however well intentioned they may be.

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/12/2016 20:56

I never know whether to go or not with DD. it's really obvious sometimes but sometimes not. And I haven't used 111 in years but they told me to go A and E every bloody time.

Therealloislane · 31/12/2016 21:01

I hope your dh is OK & getting the right treatment Flowers

You might need to go to A&E with that Mozzchops Grin

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 31/12/2016 21:11

lol at the pp suggesting he's just dehydrated - he can't have drunk any fluids for a month for his pee to be that colour

havalina1 · 31/12/2016 21:12

Hope he's been seen and is OK OP.

zoemaguire · 31/12/2016 21:15

Thanks user1477249785! I can deal with being told to fuck off, I don't much care. Somebody willing to tell someone potentially dying of kidney failure they are the reason the NHS is going to rack and ruin is not somebody whose opinion I'm going to lose sleep over.

I hope you and your husband is ok, Bala. That colour is worrying.

BalaRua · 31/12/2016 21:22

Hi all. Blood tests were all fine, we aren't sure if any micro was done on the urine sample. He was sent away and told to see his GP on Tuesday. It hasn't let up though and he's still worrying about what it could be. Really appreciate all the (helpful) comments on here Flowers

Unfortunately now the toddler has become poorly this evening with a temperature and vomiting so caring for him now as well. An interesting New Year's Eve caring for them!

Oh god OP poor you. What a crap new year Sad

MountainPeaks · 31/12/2016 21:24

Bala great all blood tests were fine, sorry you've now got a sick toddler too.

zoemaguire · 31/12/2016 21:24

Oh no, sorry to hear that :( Hope you all manage some sleep tonight and that the new year brings improvements! xx

AwaywiththePixies27 · 31/12/2016 21:25

Yes wolverbampton I did. Because they said I should have come sooner and I ended up really ill. Which could have been prevented if I'd have gone to the GPs earlier Hmm

That's why some people are rightly getting pissy on this thread after a spate of recent posts involving should I go A&E are leading to people thinking twice about going. That's what the triage nurse is for. To decide if they need urgent care or need sending somewhere else. Not random strangers on the internet telling them what they think they should do. It leads to posters with sepsis being told they should have got a taxi for example.

The OP knows her DH better than any of us do. Thankfully whilst everyone was arguing the toss about the most appropriate health care provider to use she'd already took him to hospital.

Hope hes better soon OP and its nothing too serious. Flowers

Butteredpars1ps · 31/12/2016 21:26

Glad the blood tests are OP. Hope you all manage a peaceful New Year. Wishing you lots of rest!
