Hope he is ok.

PossumInAPearTree · 31/12/2016 17:55

A&e the right place for sure, hope he's ok.

PosiePootlePerkins · 31/12/2016 17:56

That really really does look like a glass of coke though...

LollipopViolet · 31/12/2016 17:57

Hope he's OK OP. FWIW my uncle has a urine infection, is bed bound, and catheterised due to spinal injury many years ago. We had district nurses round today due to the catheter blocking, and had to ring 111 to try and get a prescription for antibiotics.

This was at 1pm and we've only just had a call from a Dr, and are still waiting for a prescription - you did the right thing going to A&E.

LavenderDoll · 31/12/2016 17:57

Glad you went to A

I agree Francis.
I went to GPs instead of A& E because I went unwell at work ...sweaty, faint and had some mild chest pain. A&E was less than 1/2 mile from work but I got someone to take me to the GP and after waiting a few minutes I was luckily seen. Next thing I knew I had a canula in my hand and an ambulance crew arrived. It was blue lights and sirens. I had a heart attack in his office! I was in for five days.
No one mentioned allergies either. I have been several times including one time when I collapsed walking down after triage. I was in Resuss for five hours after taking one tablet! I have been in with food related allergies too as it gets very frightening when it is in my mouth. Should I stay home. I self medicated last time but it continued and I apologised. The nurse said " No, you were right to come in." The swelling had continued for hours after taking anti histamines. It didn't go for a week. I had a dessert spoon of something that didn't agree and I was unrecognisable. I think if in doubt ring and ask for advice. I did this the time before and was told staying home would be an option but if it continued. " I'll come in." I answered. " No, you'll call an ambulance!" Was the reply.
I hope he is ok too but the lack of correspondence makes me think you are at his bedside. I hope he gets better soon.

The op is under no obligation to update the thread.

dowhatnow · 31/12/2016 18:05

It doesn't sound good if the op hasn't been back to update. I hope he's ok.

Maybe she's trapped in hospital and has run out of charge.

MountainPeaks · 31/12/2016 18:11

"Admission to hospital doesn't always necessitate an A and E visit" It does if you have no access to OOH or walk in as was the OPs case though.

(BTW - Our GP is supposed to be able to refer straight to acute admissions, always end up go through A and E, so this system doesn't always work even if it is in place. Drives my GP nuts).

8misskitty8 · 31/12/2016 18:16

As Francis said. Ringing nhs24/111 does not get you a quick appointment. You often wait hours for a callback.
Op's husband clearly has something wrong with him going by the colour of pee. Kidney issues can quite quickly become very serious/ life threatening.

zoemaguire · 31/12/2016 18:20

The general point stands. There are always people on threads like this making out that the OP is making a big fuss over nothing and that A&E is clearly the wrong place. As I said, on the last thread I read, the OP went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance when somebody on the thread had suggested she take a taxi, lest god forbid she be not ill enough for precious NHS resources. That kind of attitude is seriously dangerous. Sure, there are obviously time-wasters, but the OP posted a picture which some people with medical knowledge (I have none) are suggesting could be indicative of kidney failure or other life-threatening condition. And then we have somebody (a nurse?!!!) saying A&E is not for things like this?! With the best system in the world going to OOH instead will likely add several hours to the point at which somebody receives urgent care, compared to heading straight to A&E (it certainly would round our way). The kind of attitude which assumes everybody is overreacting, even when they patently aren't, is just as bad as the idiots who turn up to A&E with a small sniffle.

By the by, if you have serious concerns, keep plugging away even if the gatekeepers ignore you. A triage nurse told me I was having a panic attack when I in fact had a serious chest infection (and also several symptoms pointing to a pulmonary embolism, all of which the nurse ignored). A triage nurse similarly once put my DS on the non-urgent A&E list because he still had 'pink fingers', even though he was drifting out of consciousness by that point. His sats were in the 70s and he was in hospital for a week.

BalloonSlayer · 31/12/2016 18:20

Hope he is OK

ChatEnOeuf · 31/12/2016 18:26

Hope all is well, OP. In the absence of GP/OOH, then A&E was exactly the call I would have made. It's not normal and shouldn't wait until Tuesday.

strongandlong · 31/12/2016 18:31

Hope you and DH both OK, OP.

MountainPeaks · 31/12/2016 18:37

Zoe There was also an A and E nurse saying get to A and E :-)

HunterofStars · 31/12/2016 18:46

Hope he's ok, OP.

CountessOfStrathearn · 31/12/2016 18:48

Hospital doctor here. Glad that your DH is in A&E. This is something that needs admission. Urine that colour needs urgent bloods, urgent fluids and a renal review asap.

I'm with Turnip. Urine in rhabdomyolysis really does look like Coke, so would want that urgently excluded.

PossumInAPearTree · 31/12/2016 18:53

I'm not sure if Mozzchops is medical, there's a poster called Mosschops who is a midwife I believe. Not sure they're the same person.
