....are you feeling better yet? I'm not I saw the doctor on monday who said my chest was clear, it was just viral..blah, blah, blah but I'm still coughing loads and my ears are blocked all the time. Moan, moan whinge. The pharmacist told me to only take day nurse for a week (marvellous stuff) so i've had to stop that now too. How do I get rid of this damn thing?

Gosh. I've had the dry, hacky someone is attacking my lungs with a cheese grater cough for a couple of weeks, and been really tired.
Cough so much I have to take paracetamol for the splitting headache that develops. I take a couple of spoons of medised before bed if it's bad. Can't take any of the good cough syrup, like covonia and buttercup, cos bfing. And dd2 is on medised too.

BandofMothers · 19/02/2007 22:46

After reading this thread, I feel I have got off lightly.

expatinscotland · 19/02/2007 22:49

I hate trying to go to bed, because it's worse at night.

PrincessPeaHead · 19/02/2007 22:49

oh expat, snap! we obviously have Twin Bugs. How sweet

a few times I've been coughing so much and so out of control I've almost vomited...

well on that lovely vision, I'm off to my sickbed! night all

BandofMothers · 19/02/2007 22:51

Expat. I assume you've already tried everything, but can you comfortably prop yourself in a sitting position in bed. Might be easier to sleep w/out coughing.
Is always worse as soon as you lay down.

expatinscotland · 19/02/2007 22:53

Yes, I have tried that.

Co-codamol helps!

BandofMothers · 19/02/2007 23:00

Take them with a big swag of whiskey.
Hope you sleep well tonight.
(Thought you would have tried it already)

brimfull · 19/02/2007 23:08

I have this delightful bug and it's turned into fruity bronchitis with raging asthmatic wheeze...great!

NorksBrideThePinkoLiberal · 19/02/2007 23:14

Are these bugs becoming longer-lasting and nastier or do you just not get them when you're young, free and childless?

The last couple of years having been dire for this sort of virus. I've never been so ill, so often.

Hulababy · 20/02/2007 11:21

I am off work with it now. Been to GPs today as I was on holiday from work last week so have to have a sick note - been signed off for rest of week with influenza. Feel rubbish; at least I have formal permission to do nothing but rest and sleep all day.

foxinsocks · 20/02/2007 11:23

Princesspeahead - hope the interview went ok despite your greenies!

Oati · 20/02/2007 11:26

I've been coughing up green goo for a week now - this is day 8.

Haven't had a temperature though so haven't been to the Dr.

Hot lemon honey and whiskey toddies seem to be helping at night though

morningpaper · 20/02/2007 11:31

3 weeks, now over it i THINK

it was AWFUL, kept coming back

TeeCee · 20/02/2007 11:32

Had mine a week now and feel like shite. Am pregnant so unable to take anything.
Really snotty, with a cough, feel drained.

PrincessPeaHead · 20/02/2007 11:38

oh thank you for remembering foxy! It was OK I guess - pretty draining (lasted all day). We shall see!

I wish doctors still said things like "hmmm, that chest sounds bad, I think you should go and take the air by the sea in the south of france, it is imperative for your health"

foxinsocks · 20/02/2007 11:45

omg, an all day interview (shudder) and this your first one for years? V impressive!

Hulababy · 20/02/2007 11:46

Good luck PPH - hope all went well.

My Gp did ask if I had been away abroad recently; just answered I wish!

oliveoil · 20/02/2007 11:47

whole house has had it, I still have

obviously dh more so than anyone else at all ever

I went for a thai banquet on Saturday and couldn't taste a thing, could have been a sodding Pot Noodle

DimpledThighs · 20/02/2007 11:47

princesspeahead - I have this horrible thing too and a really important interview tomorrow - so you are not alone!!! Can't back out so will have to front it feeling like poo.

michylou · 20/02/2007 11:53

I had it doctor kept telling me 'it will run its course' went back 3 times finally got an examination( by this i mean actually listened to my chest) and came to the conclusion i had pleurisy due to an untreated lung infection!!! Doctors!!!

expatinscotland · 20/02/2007 13:37

Best of luck, PPH!

I saw the GP this morning and got changed over to augmentin.

Chest was REALLY noisy and bad last night, lots of green mucus and still that low grade fever.

Hopefully this will do the trick!

Sonnet · 20/02/2007 13:52

Hope everyone starts to feel better soon...and the new antbiotics work Expat.
I had this, started on Boxing Day. Horribel horrible hacking cough and as for the phlem - well....It is still hanging around but no where near as bad as some of you have been.
Thought I'd seen the last of it a week ago and then 3 days ago I started with a streaming cold. At least the cough hasn't come back with such force.

Ho hum...roll on summer

PrincessPeaHead · 20/02/2007 13:59

oh michylou that is really dangerous! and painful. hope you are better now.

glad you are on something else expat. I haven't gone today - I feel much better and have tried to hack up more green crap and to my slight disappointment (how bizarre am I!) it seems to be much more pale yellow. So maybe I can get rid of it by myself.

I'm going abroad with dh for a week BY OURSELVES the week after next though so if I'm not right by monday I'll get something.

now just have to locate where to get malaria tablets from here in the sticks...

Gingerbear · 20/02/2007 14:02

I have had this for over a week. Had to take to bed 2 days, recovering now, but the cough and crackling chest WON'T go away.
And I am pregnant, so every time I cough .... need tena lady too.

michylou · 20/02/2007 14:29

Thanks princesspeahead felling much better now I have some REALLY strong painkillers and yet another dose of antibiotics!! Im sure you'll feel much better when your on holiday- Im so jealous!!!
