....are you feeling better yet? I'm not I saw the doctor on monday who said my chest was clear, it was just viral..blah, blah, blah but I'm still coughing loads and my ears are blocked all the time. Moan, moan whinge. The pharmacist told me to only take day nurse for a week (marvellous stuff) so i've had to stop that now too. How do I get rid of this damn thing?

Well dd and dh have had/still coughing but I haven't yet, I await my turn!!

Hoping it will pass me by as am due in 6 weeks and by the sound of this thread it could last that long.

Woke up this morning with a runny nose, could this be the start?!

Hulababy · 18/02/2007 20:01

Actually it is the mornings I am currently finding really hard. My throat feels almot completely closed up when I wake, so feel like I can hardly breathe or swallow properly. Horrid feeling. After lots of water it eventually feels a little easier but so dry.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 19/02/2007 08:46

urgh, hat a night, now..i dont sweat much as a rule..but oh my god i was wringing last night but skin was freezing and i felt cold(dp had same just over a wek ago)..kept waking myself up coughing and choking, sneezing ..urgh, i feel awful..eyes still hurt, head hurts and have to walk to chemist for dd some medicine...hope ill make it!..seriously!..i have to hold onto everyhting around me in hosue to supprt myself, so dizzy

Piffle · 19/02/2007 08:49

I've had it and am pregnant so no bloody meds for me
Also have had dd off and do with it so double no triple urgh
It has wiped me out, I think it's the viral part of it, I'm now just sinusy but feel weak and knackered, but part of that could be 36 wks pregnant...
I miss sudafed though...

Hulababy · 19/02/2007 08:53

Am shattered today. My throat is so sore, and my chest too. My neck feels really stiff. I guess no point in going to GPs though if just a cold - they can't give me anything more. Not looking forward to work tomorrow though, that is going to be tough!

MissesF · 19/02/2007 09:08

my 7 year old has been poorly since last monday....temp peaked at 39.9 (ear thermometre) on weds...still no lower than 38.5... trying to give less nurofen/calpol as wondering if by reducing temp with meds if i'm prolonging the body's natural way of getting through infection (remember old fashioned 'sweat it out' cure for all....and giving meds avoids thge sweating)

is off food, sleepier than usual, pale, coughing, sick 3 times (due to catarh etc i think) no headaches as such... described himself as having a 'stich' yeaterday...pointed to groin area???? and noticed he seems to be 'puffing' out his breath...breathing in ok...but noticably more effort breathing out....

he had inhaler from age 2 to 5..... wondering if should get him checked again...as i seem to think some people with asthma are sick after coughing????

foxinsocks · 19/02/2007 09:11

I would definitely get him checked out if he's struggling with his breathing. When dd got it (asthmatic) I had to really up her ventolin to get her through it (and I think her high temp hung around for about 4 days). It's really horrid.

MissesF · 19/02/2007 09:26

but he's not 'out of breath' as such ...not wheezing etc....he's just come down (only just woke up) and his temp is 36.6....still coughing though!

Donk · 19/02/2007 20:50

Difficulty with breathing out is (I believe) typical of asthma

expatinscotland · 19/02/2007 20:52

I am going back to the doctor tomorrow. I got an out of hours appointment on Saturday and both sinuses and both ears were infected. And my chest.

My ears were soooooo painful.

Third day on antibiotics today and I still feel grotty.

Chest is evil at night, like a vice grip, particulary the left side.

expatinscotland · 19/02/2007 20:53

Wednesday will be the 3rd week I've been ill.

cazzybabs · 19/02/2007 20:56

I have had 5 days in bed (during my bloody half-term - why can't I be ill in school time!!!). Mind you still coughing and my ear hurts and is blocked uo I couldn't hear what the kids where saying anyway. My poor class - all they had today was a grumpy teacher saying PArdon, what did you say and then still not hearing so just saying yes!

I've had this for at least three weeks now. First week was just a horrible hacky cough and feeling knackered and like death.
Start of second week I got TERRIBLE sinusitus, that went down into my jaw and made my teeth ache. So went on a weeks course of antibiotics which sorted that out, but my nose continued to stream and my cough continued and I still felt crap. Finished the antibs a week ago and I'm still coughing, although less, but more gunk coming up (sorry!). Have found myself surreptitiously gobbing into hedges in a MOST un-princessy-type-fashion . And the last 3 days I've had an incredibly stiff neck, so I'm interested to hear that yours is the same hula!

I just wish it would GO AWAY.

expatinscotland · 19/02/2007 22:20

PPH
Go back and get another antibiotic. One course doesn't always shift it and sometimes you need a different one, particularly if your infection has moved into your ears or chest.

This amoxycillin is doing jack for me and I'm going back because I'm sick of feeling like hell.

PrincessPeaHead · 19/02/2007 22:24

that's what my mother says expat. sigh. OK, mom!

can't take amoxy - allergic. may go and ask for some zithromycin. my mother reckons that amoxy never works after January anyway because all the bugs are resistant to it by then... maybe try something else?

expatinscotland · 19/02/2007 22:26

Listen to your mother!

Go back. Tell 'em you took the amoxy but you're still hacking up the green goo. They should be able to hear the rattle in your chest - at least, they could on me!

Feeling crap and having young children is a bad mix.

SlightlyMadScientist · 19/02/2007 22:27

Yup I have had it for about 3 wks. It has 'changed' over that time but hasn't actually gone away in that time...

expatinscotland · 19/02/2007 22:29

Mine got worse. I knew it was sinus infection, but didn't clue the ear infection till Saturday. OW! I hadn't had one of htose in a while, I'd forgotten how much they hurt. Didn't even feel the chest for the ears.

SlightlyMadScientist · 19/02/2007 22:38

Coughing up yellow/green stuff from the chest throughout the day tends to indicate bacterial infection. If it is just yellow/green first thing it is probably just cos it is stagnant overnight stuff. Various explainations - most commonly that the colour is caused by breakdown proudcts or that the bugs are yellow + blue =green. Clear/white sputum tends to indicate viral.

The correlation is not 100% but make sure you tell GP your still coughing up bright green stuff and you should get more Abs.

expatinscotland · 19/02/2007 22:40

Globs of green stuff here. And blowing it out the nose, too.

Fun!

Also smelly.

SlightlyMadScientist · 19/02/2007 22:40

The correlation definantly isn't true for the nose....

PrincessPeaHead · 19/02/2007 22:43

I sneezed while coughing this afternoon (multi-talented, me!) and REALLY thick dark green gobs of yuck came up from my lungs. HORRIBLE!

Will make an appointment tomorrow. Sigh!

expatinscotland · 19/02/2007 22:44

Gross! I have green semi-hard bits, like the size of a pea, in addition to some stretchy stuff. I don't want to cough, b/c I can't seem to stop and it's painful.

jollymum · 19/02/2007 22:45

OK had this for four weeks. Week 1 sinusy feeling horrible, boasting that I never get ill. Week 2 snot from hell monster and chest that hurt like a monster from hades had sat on me and "really hurt me", all over. Half term week, cried all day every day, wobbled everywhere and ranted.

Today worked, smiled and felt like poo

Hot, cold, happy, sad (all in two minute slots)
