It's back For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and more detailed information here

Iirc, the personal training session really worked to get you into it in the first place, didn't it?

I am tired again today. Ok, more tired. And have both boys underfoot. I might try to do an exercise tape. Food-wise, I will probably eat a pomelo, some citrus fruit, maybe a tricolore salad if we leave the house (yum). Dinner will probably be something involving an aubergine, and maybe the soup I was trying to get DH to make.

FrannyandZooey · 16/02/2007 08:40

I hope all the travel and stuff didn't make you too tired yesterday. I was knackered, I don't usually walk so much

Yes when you join you get 6 free personal training sessions, thereafter you can have one free a month, but I just missed the time of month to get one, so I would have to pay.

I think the fact the personal trainer looks like a 20 year old Owen Wilson kind of helped

The mix of travel, stressed children on the train, biking, and all the other reasons I'm tired made me quite tired today. Both boys were dead.

This morning, DS1 wants to know why we can't go see you again today, though.

FrannyandZooey · 16/02/2007 08:51

I did sleep all night without being conscious of waking up, until dp got up at silly o'clock, so it must have done me some good I reckon

ds has been pointing the 'gun' at me again today but doesn't quite dare play shooting now your ds has gone. "I am just doing a magic spell on you, Mummy. It won't hurt you or anything."

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 16/02/2007 08:53

Ah, we obviously need to put them together for longer, to get him talking about baddies and guns and so on all the time.

My two are cuddled up in my bed, arguing about something. It's DH's 'last day' at work today. Only it turns out, of the 8 days of holiday he's taking before the new job, he's only actually off work for 3 or 4.

Overrun · 16/02/2007 11:01

Good morning. I too slept well. I have had weetabix for breakfast again, I have had a bit of an epiphany where that is concerned. It always looks so unappetising, but I am finding that I really rather like the taste. I have also had a banana and a apple to top up, and am sipping a peach juice as I type

Feel a bit stressed about the house we are buying today. I think the Vendors were cowboys, and we are dreading that delicate line of trying to get things checked out properly, and not scaring them away. Previously have only bought a modern flat, so a 1950's ex council house with some sort of council covenant still prohibiting certain things is a bit mind boggling . Also part of me really resents having to sort it all out to the soundtrack of dc's crying because they are fighting in the other room. I am convinced that it would be easier for dh to do some of this from the office, but then he has taken 3 days of Annual leave in the last week and a half to help with the dc's because I was too ill to look after them.

DimpledThighs · 16/02/2007 11:27

just crashed in here to say hello frannyandzooey I missed you very very much!!!!!

Tatties · 16/02/2007 11:54

Morning

So far I have eaten some dates...

I have decided I need to go back to pilates because I didn't like the look of my tummy in the mirror last night.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/02/2007 12:46

No exercise for me yet. Am really too tired. Have had muesli. A lot of dried mango (ok, dipped in white chocolate and lime pickle. yum!). Will no doubt eat real food at some time.

Might make a trip to Lidl as my exercise, on foot or on the bike.

MamaG · 16/02/2007 13:03

Hi Franny

I've come to stalk you, I haven't seen you for aaages.

I made a treasure basket for DS (proud) except its a cardboard box so far containign a pine cone, a large smooth fossil and a cotton reel

NotQuiteCockney · 16/02/2007 13:08

(I think Frances is actually working today. Which is too bad, as I started a separate thread about her astrological birth control book. )

FrannyandZooey · 16/02/2007 13:13

Oooh stalkers, lovely Hello and are you sure we can't tempt you to join?

MamaG there are wonderful nutcrackers on sale in Sainsburys for 10p at the moment, that is my treasure basket scoop of the week

My veg box came and it is not too scary, although more leafy things than we would normally be eating. I am also a little confused as I was expecting local produce and wasn't aware that grapefruits currently grew in Essex

there is kale, rocket, lettuce, carrots, parsnips, swede, turnips, onions, mushrooms, brussels, garlic, and potatoes. So I reckon a couple of salads, stir fry with the kale, brussels, carrots and mushrooms, and soup with all the root veg? Any better ideas?

FrannyandZooey · 16/02/2007 13:14

Ooh yes WORK I knew there was something I was meant to be doing

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 16/02/2007 13:17

Our box is allowed foreign fruit and veg, as long as it's shipped, not air freighted.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/02/2007 13:18

Here is the astrology thread.

FrannyandZooey · 16/02/2007 13:26

Yep, I know most box schemes include foreign stuff, but I really thought this one said local only. I think I am happier getting local organic stuff where it's available and then topping up from the greengrocers myself, where I'm not paying £stupid for a punnet of organic French strawberries in June (came as part of our last box scheme )

NotQuiteCockney · 16/02/2007 13:34

Hmmm, all this talk of 'foreign' fruit and veg is making me want to discuss your shrine to Robert Kilroy Silk or whatever that orange bloke is called ...

The aubergine is in the oven roasting to make an aubergine dip. :-P

Oh, I got you those bread boards (along with the usual Lidl random purchases).

VoodooChickenhead · 16/02/2007 16:37

Hi Franny,
I have had a few names but stuck with voodoo for a while now,,,anyhoo can I join as I love fruit (what does 10/10 mean though?) for being naive...

I will get a dragon fruit on monday and report back, basically the role I will play here is one of 'fruit detective' I never would ever go to the gym, but I walk a lot (does that make me 9/10)

?????

FrannyandZooey · 16/02/2007 18:27

"all this talk of 'foreign' fruit and veg is making me want to discuss your shrine to Robert Kilroy Silk or whatever that orange bloke is called ... "

Whaaaaaaat?

No aviatrix, thanks for the compliment, but I am not a gram flour sort of person. I am not a cooking sort of person, actually. I only make soups, stews, and things like that, that all go in one saucepan and don't require any more complicated cooking techniques than "stir"

Voodoo, 10 / 10 means that we are trying to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg each day, and do at least 10 mins of extra exercise each day (which is crap, I know, but some of us are not even managing that much )

"basically the role I will play here is one of 'fruit detective' "

this has really tickled me

Thanks for the breadboard thingies NQC, is it ok to pay you when I see you or shall I send money?

OP posts:
StrangeTown · 16/02/2007 18:48

Aviatrix do the bhajis just hold together and then you fry them? They sound lovely. I am going to make them tomorrow.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/02/2007 18:55

Oh goodness, don't bother paying me, I don't know how much they were anyway.

Sorry, is the UK IP or whatever shrine meant to be a secret? You know, the big thing on the wall with "Keep out foreign veg" etc on it? Very about revealing a secret ...

NotQuiteCockney · 16/02/2007 18:57

Oh, the soup was ok (parsnip, brocolli, onion, some leafy cabbagy thing), and the dip was great. I had to go out and buy proper Turkish flat breads to go with it, as I couldn't face using just normal rubbish bread with it.
