How many lots of AB's have your children had in their lives?

Just marvelling at the fact that dd1 is five and a half and has never had AB's, whereas ds is five months and has had EIGHT courses of AB's.

OP posts:
Jelley · 21/11/2006 19:22

None of mine have had any (aged 9 months , 6 and 7).
I had my first course when I was 29.

mamama · 21/11/2006 19:23

Ds 14 months - no prescription meds yet.

sweetkitty · 21/11/2006 19:28

DD1 2.4, DD2 10 months both have never had ABs, DD2 has only had an antifungal for oral thrush and some lactilose for constipation bless her.

Every time one of them has a sniffle my mother is always saying "they need to see the doctor for a bottle (of antibiotics) don't think she would get the concept of multi-drug resistant bacteria or the fact that the cold is caused by a virus which antibiotics don't work against.

ilovecaboose · 21/11/2006 19:32

ds (2) has had 3 lots .

1st lot when he was a couple of days old.
2 lots since then for nasty coughs (he is also asthmatic as are me and dp).

I don't like him having them and our gps don't like giving them out and always try other options first. But sometimes they need them (I keep reminding myself).

By the time I was his age I had had more than that though, as I also have weak chest (was nebulised a week ago for chest infection setting off asthma). I really hope he doesn't have to have any more for a long time.

geekgrrl · 21/11/2006 19:34

dd1 (7) - 1 course for very infected eczema a month ago, never before
dd2 (5) - around 100 courses
ds (3) - 1 course for a chest infection at 4 weeks old

northerner · 21/11/2006 19:35

My ds is 4.5 and I have lost count how many he had in the first 5 years of his life. He had otitis media with effusion and was forever on anti b's including a 6 week course

Then they put in grommets and he's had none since

LIZS · 21/11/2006 19:36

ds (8) has had 3 lots iirc- Strep throat, Scarlet fever and ear infection plus a cream for impetigo
dd (5) has had at least 4 lots - one uti and ear infections

northerner · 21/11/2006 19:36

5 years of his life and he's only 4.5?!!!

aliceband · 21/11/2006 19:50

ds1 (12) quite a few, ear infections.
dd2 (9) less, bronchiectasis,
dd3 (7) may be 1.again chesty,

Gillian76 · 21/11/2006 19:52

He's in his fifth year northerner

Jimjams2 · 21/11/2006 19:53

ds1 - aged 7 about 13 - but all in the first 4 years

ds2- aged 4- 2
ds2 aged 2- none.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/11/2006 19:54

DS1 is just 5, and I think he had one course when born, and maybe two or three since then (ear infections, they all blur together).

DS2 is just 2, and hasn't had any yet.

Jimjams2 · 21/11/2006 19:54

dyurr- ds3 aged 2 - none I mean!

PanicPants · 21/11/2006 19:56

DS is 15monthsw and has had 4 lots

PanicPants · 21/11/2006 19:58

All chest infections, poor little man.

singersgirl · 21/11/2006 20:04

DS1 (8)- loads and loads (4 types) intravenously at 10 days for 10 days, plus follow ups. 2 x infected lymph glands, 1 x ear infection, 1x mycoplasma.

DS2 (5) - half a dozen or so (maybe less), for ear infection, mycoplasma and once for non-specific thing that was sending him downhill fast!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 21/11/2006 20:06

Rebecca is 1.1 and had 1 lot of AB's
Jessica is 2.4 and has 2 lots of AB's

Gillian76 · 21/11/2006 20:08

DD1 (6) possibly 2 or 3 in the first couple of years.

DD2 (5) probably nearer 5. She had a horrid haemangioma at birth that kept breaking down and getting infected.

DS (3) None

Bozza · 21/11/2006 20:11

DS has had several lots - chest infections, ear infections, tonsilitis twice - that is all I can think of. I am currently more concerned about the number of operations he has had - 4 to date (he is 5) and looking like needing 2 more.

DD has had them twice I think, once for a chest infection and once for tonsilitis.

misdee · 21/11/2006 20:15

dd1, no idea, she was on and off antibiotics for ages between birth and 3 years old due to eczema and tonsilitus.

dd2 has had about 6 courses

dd3 has had one i think, when she got a secondry bacterial infection with chicken pox.

asleep · 21/11/2006 20:20

DD (5) none
DS (24 weeks) had ABs for a week after his birth

aliceband · 21/11/2006 20:29

so it looks like we're all similar, the first gets lots and the second less, the third is lucky to get a visit to the GP. less worried by then.

chlochlo · 21/11/2006 20:56

DS nearly 2 and i would say he's had at least 15 lots

gladbag · 21/11/2006 20:57

Ds (2.10) hasn't needed any yet.

turquoise · 21/11/2006 21:02

DS (almost 12) has had about 3 or 4 lots, all before the age of 5 or 6.
DD (8) has never had any.
