hello

i wrenched something in my back yesterday lkifting ds2, i felt something rip. i went out yesterday evening having taken lots of painkillers and although it was sore it wasn't unbearable.

i had a really bad night unable to get comfortable... now it ias pure agony, i can't walk to the loo without help, i can't take a full breath, andf as well as the back injury6 i also have a sort of soft (waterfilled?) swelling on my front corresponding to the pain on my back, it is so painful, i am not exaggerating.

i called nhs direct and they told me to take ibuprofen which I was already doing and it does bugger all. Any nurses around? I'd be grateful; for any advice.

foundintranslation · 22/10/2006 10:15

morning greeny, how are you?

any result at the doc? (I know, probably a bit early to ask, but wanted to ask anyway)

GeorginaA · 22/10/2006 10:49

Thinking of you Greeny - hope you got to the walk in centre this morning.

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 22/10/2006 11:43

hey greeny, do you still have your disfigurement?

(seriously, is it sorted?)

AlfredAitchcock · 22/10/2006 12:55

hope that you got to a decent doctor this morning, greeny.

FrannyandZooey · 22/10/2006 12:57

Greeny (or Greeny's dh) fgs drag yourself from your sick bed for us, please

Greensleeves · 22/10/2006 15:25

hello, I had a very shit night (couldn't sleep) so have been asleep most of the morning - dh woke me up for lunch about an hour ago and the plan is to go to the walk in centre. The trouble is that I can't walk by myself so I need him to come with me - which means taking both of the children with us. We don't have car seats for them both (cos we don;t sdrrive) so it would mean two buses, and it's pissing down with rain, and the kids have already been soppping wet once today because dh took them to the allotment while I was asleep. So it's the usual Greensleecves cock-up, we'ree still arguing about whjat to do.

Thanks for asking about me

ok we have decided to brave the buses with the kids - my expectation is that it will take us an hour to get to the walk-in centre on Sunday buses, we will get soaking wet and freezing cold, queue for a couple of hours to see a doctor who looks ten years younger than me who will make disparaging remarks about my weight and tell me to "take some ibuprofen", and then we will make our way home in the rain again.

Eye - oare.

lulumama · 22/10/2006 17:45

greeny.........what an absolute PITA!

hope they take you seriously and sort it out!! esp. as you can't take a full breath..

Greensleeves · 22/10/2006 18:23

am back

saw a very rude dismissive receptionist who sent me to see the walk-in nurse instead of the emergency doctor

the nurse had a good prod and twist, palpated my lump [Franny! ] listened to breathing etc, and said I have torn the muscle between my ribs, which has led to a sprain in that whole muscle all the way round from back to front, and it's all in spasm, which is why I can't breathe deeply. She recommended - wait for it - ibuprofen, and rest!!! I explained that I had come on two buses in the rain and that it is half-term so I am going to be stuck in with two toddlers all week. She just smiled and handed me the number for the out-of-hours doctor (the pricks I spoke to yesterday and said if it gets any worse I should ring them!

The bus journey was bloody murder.

DH reckons he can persuade them to let him work from home tomorrow, so we'll see what heppens after that.

what a pile of dog shit. these people have no empathy. hope dh can stay home. poor you greeny

GeorginaA · 22/10/2006 18:32

That's awful Greeny I hope your dh manages to get the time off so you can get some proper rest.

Greensleeves · 22/10/2006 18:46

Thanks She was a very nice nurse really, very sympathetic - but there wasn't anything she could do really. The service sucks.

OP posts:
lulumama · 22/10/2006 18:48

how awful....any mntters near you to lend a hand.?

love it when docs tell you to rest & take it easy when you have small children.....

beckybraAAARGHstraps · 22/10/2006 18:51

Dh tore an intercostal muscle and it was pretty awful, but there isn't really anything you can do for it I don't think. Hope you can get some help with the children. I only ever injure myself when dh is working away. Sod's Law. Take care.
