hello

i wrenched something in my back yesterday lkifting ds2, i felt something rip. i went out yesterday evening having taken lots of painkillers and although it was sore it wasn't unbearable.

i had a really bad night unable to get comfortable... now it ias pure agony, i can't walk to the loo without help, i can't take a full breath, andf as well as the back injury6 i also have a sort of soft (waterfilled?) swelling on my front corresponding to the pain on my back, it is so painful, i am not exaggerating.

i called nhs direct and they told me to take ibuprofen which I was already doing and it does bugger all. Any nurses around? I'd be grateful; for any advice.

not that i can think of anything in that area, saying that.

lulumama · 21/10/2006 20:31

herniate!!!

i'm not a medical person! it just sounds more muscular...

might be wrong,,,only greeny's utterly sympathetic and charming doctor can tell!

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 20:32

it had better not be a hernia, yuk

it bloody hurts, whatever it is although MN is taking my mind off it quite nicely

OP posts:
AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 20:33

i'm pretty sure i didn't make that word up...

lulumama · 21/10/2006 20:34

is it like norkulate-- i learnt that word on here too!

AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 20:47

has your dh threatened to rough up the GP yet?

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2006 20:48

Greeny try working through this and see what it says

Then tell us.

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 20:52

"Most back pain after an injury is simply bruising or strained soft tissue, such as ligament or muscle, and can be helped with paracetamol or anti-inflammatory medicines. Ask your pharmacist"

I followed it through and got the above response. But it didn't ask any really relevant questions, only stuff like "Does the pain radiate down one leg", obviously designed to rule out sciatica etc. It sdidn't cover the fact that I can't take a full breath, or walk unsupproted.

Thanks Franny - I reckon that's what the doc I sopke to thios morning was using.

OP posts:
AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 21:03

doesn't explain the lump...

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2006 21:07

Have we tried googling for random phrases like "really scary lump and back pain"?

Or shall we not go down that route

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 21:09

no

I think dh wants me to wait until morning and then go to the walk in centre, so I'll just do taht. I haven't got the energy to deal with his maladjusted sulking if I try to push him into getting shirty with the nhs direct people, and I don't want to do it myself either

if there is something mortally wrong with me I am goign to hunt down the supercilious little tosspot who fobbed me off today and..... well, do somethnig reeeeeely narsty.

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 21/10/2006 21:10

Damn ... throws away the really bizarre and funny google links ... 5 minutes of my life WASTED

Greeny: if there's something mortally wrong with you... SUE THE BASTARDS...

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 21/10/2006 21:11

oh ffs, though, this is fecking mad, greeny, the gp services round you sound shite.

is it getting better or worse? would a bath help?

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2006 21:12

Actually Greeny you are onto a loser if you try to push shy and retiring spouses into hassling people on your behalf, it doesn't work that way

If they were the sort of people who were regularly prepared to verbally duff up people who annoyed us, they wouldn't actually be the laid back and gentle souls who can put up with us

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2006 21:14

Now meanwhile, can you sleep? Or is it too painful? If it is too painful I would go to the hospital. You might as well. If dp can get you IN the taxi, the taxi driver can go and get a nurse at the other end to bring you a wheelchair or whatever

AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 21:14

i have also found this to be the case, franny. dh's being a nice quiet chap is the reason we're still together.

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 21:16

True, Franny, buth e's quite capable of getting arsy if he's been overcharged for a fricking train ticket or something

Oh well, I'll just take my amytriptyline, whack down another battery of painkillers and MN until I fall asleep... it isn't getting worse any more, it's staying the same, and the swelling is the same as a couple of hours ago, so I'm sure it won't hurt to leave it till morning.

I'm not a hypochondriac, honest...as far as I understand it hypochodriacs are only imagining they're always ill

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2006 21:53

No you are really always ill Greeny

I would hug you if I didn't think you might have my eye out with your jewellery

foundintranslation · 21/10/2006 22:03

Greeny.

No useful advice and I'm afraid no taking-your-mind-off-it-entertainment-value either here, but sympathy in abundance.

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 22:07

Thanks FIT, sympathy will do nicely, I need lots of sympathy (dh can do the tea)

I owe you an email, will be in touch soon (when I have extracted some better pain killers out of the shocking shower that passes for an emergency medical service in these parts).

Franny, I am wearing a (gorgeous) necklace featuring some viciously sharp shards of abalone today, I nearly gored ds1 earlier!

OP posts:
foundintranslation · 21/10/2006 22:10

email whenever you feel better. You have been in the wars lately (as my sadly-also-estranged grandma would say)

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 22:11

Ooh yes, that is helping loads

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2006 22:12

You don't think the injury could be abalone related do you? Could a piece have entered your lung, at all?

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 22:13

No.

OP posts:
AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 22:36

yum yum i love zabaglione.
