wet flannel on forehead

pandagirl03 · 09/10/2006 22:59

what about nurofen for children, it was only thing that made my dd's temp come down. hope he gets better soon.

DettaJnr · 09/10/2006 22:59

Strip him down to his undies. This can help a little. Monitor his temp though cos if it goes past 41 you will need to seek medical advice. Just keep trying to get him to drink, even if its only sips, and cold things as you have tried. Use bribery if you have to... HTH

soapbox · 09/10/2006 23:01

HI Essbee - tbh I'd be very worried about dehydration if he isn't drinking, try him with a teaspoon of water every half hour or so. Just wet his lips with it - or syringe a few mls into his mouth.

alcyone · 09/10/2006 23:02

Have you tried sponging him done with tepid water? start at head and work way down the body, thie always works for my D, she is 6 and it takes about an hour for the meds described to kick in. Good Luck.

Agree with dettajnr...small sips go along way.Go with gut instinct dont feel bad about seeking medical attention.

Have you got a fan? Our local paed assessment unit recommend using one.

hub2dee · 09/10/2006 23:15

Get into a warm bath with him, and then allow him to drip dry (don't towel dry). Will cool him down.

Sounds like an unpleasant evening. Hope it's not a trip to hossie for you.

It's not really the temp of the water. 'Warm' would just keep him comfortable IYSWIM (ie. don't try and cool him down with a cold bath IYSWIM). It's the drip drying in the air whereby the water evaporates off the skin which causes the body to lose heat.

hairymclary · 09/10/2006 23:23

have you told him that if he doesn't try and drink something he'll have to go to hospital?

or bribery of some sort?

Blimey, essbee, you OK? Hope ds is feeling better and starting to cool down. What a worry - all you need!

Is there anything I can do? I can come over in the morning if you need anything and are housebound. Just give me a shout.

(Btw, it's me, formerly pony girl )

hub2dee · 09/10/2006 23:31

Ice cubes to suck on too ! Or try crushed ice to suck. Refreshing.

alcyone · 09/10/2006 23:41

I hope his temp is coming down and that all is well.

How are things, essbee?
Hope you manage to settle ds & get his temp down in the end. Good news that he drank some water.
Hope all is ok.x

pageturner · 10/10/2006 08:45

How's things this morning? Really hope he's better. Have you got someone to stay in with him while you go to the doctor's?

Janbo25 · 10/10/2006 08:55

I hope he is ok, have you been giving him ibuprofen and paracetamol at the same time, it is safe to do so and works alot quicker than just the one of them?
