Grin

Welcome to thread 50 .... Yes FIFTY.
Lots of us are rising 50 so rather apt!

OP posts:
Nelsonwasonce · 06/08/2014 12:53

Hi all and thank you for the good luck wishes for yesterday's appointment. Lots to read up on here so for now wishing all the best of luck with treatments and appointments.
Appointment went really well, apart from the opening sentence :"Are you just by yourself" which gave me instant heart flutters....
Anyway, the news was great, turns out I may well have "cancer light" as my 'sympathetic friend' called it.Nothing invasive found in lymph nodes so all there's left for me to do is reconstruction. No medication/hormones or anything!
Maybe my friend was right,I do feel like I have got off lightly.Yes,I may well be missing a boob, but they can fix that quite nicely these days.
When I read all your posts I consider myself a very lucky, lucky girl to have caught it so early ......
Thanks Thanks to all who have seen me through the last few weeks.
Thanks Thanks to all who are facing lengthy treatment and those who have unfortunately had to join this thread and are still awaiting diagnoses and in the process of having to tell family and friends.
All your help has been invaluable to see me through this very intense,at times frightening time.People have commented on how positive I have been throughout, that would not have been possible without all your helpful posts, tips, and reassuring support,of that I am convinced.
I genuinely can't thank you enough ............

malteserzz · 06/08/2014 13:12

Glad to hear your good news Nelson It's great you don't need any more treatment Smile

Eloporto I guess if they looked at it yesterday they must be happy with it

Ludoole his family sound very unhelpful could you have a word and ask them to be a bit more positive?

Briteside I hope you enjoy your time off work even though it's not for the best reason

Hope everyone's doing ok today

Ludoole · 06/08/2014 15:34

Just called the district nurses as dp's pico dressing was supposed to be delivered today. Turns out they havent ordered it and we won't get it til monday! The dressing has to be changed every 3 days (due tomorrow) and to top it off his negative pressure vacuum pump will stop tomorrow too...
Nurse on the phone says it wont hurt til monday which is completely opposite to what the surgeon said...

Hes worried enough without all this!!!

Wren48 · 06/08/2014 17:10

Welcome to all the new people, although I'm really sorry you find yourselves here. It's a great place for support and a safe place to vent.

Ludoole, I'm so sorry that you have the additional stress of having to worry about dressings when you both have enough on your plate; not at all what you need. I've had the pico dressing; it does do an excellent job. For what it's worth, I always thought the nurses were much more on top of wound management than the doctors, and had much more of a feel for what's important and when. And grrr to relatives who can't see beyond their own needs..

Elporto, I haven't had an implant, but know that it's normal for a boob to swell up post surgery - perhaps it's just that?

Great news, Nelson. Smile

Speedypenguin · 06/08/2014 21:30

Good news nelson Smile.

Ludoole hope dressings get sorted.

Evening all. Just watched British bake off with my son. It just made me very hungry and hopeful that my taste will come back soon.

Wren48 · 07/08/2014 08:43

Glad you like Bake Off, Speedy. Us too! It's one of the few telly programmes that we will all watch - even the 16 year old who much prefers the computer on the whole. We even had the series return written in the diary - sad but true.

I'm feeling so much stronger and more able to cope with the world. I finally got my lymphoedema appointments and even feel better about that as they say it's very mild and may go completely (although as with everything in this game, there are no guarantees). I will use a glove and sleeve for exercise, but that's ok and a lot better than wearing one all the time.

Speedypenguin · 07/08/2014 09:43

Glad you are feeling stronger wren and that the lymphoedema may hopefully go.

Off to town to meet friends although I am feeling really tired. Boys deciding to fight all morning though so think getting out might be good!

Ludoole · 07/08/2014 15:18

Dressing was sorted! Wound reminded me of pork belly draft... Grin
So amazed by my lovely fella though.

malteserzz · 07/08/2014 17:09

Wren that's good news about the lymphodemia. Was it obvious you had it ? I often hold my arms up and try and work out if one is bigger than the other, I don't think they are

Ludoole glad it got sorted

Speedy hope you enjoyed your town trip

I've been sorting out my new classroom today, moving ages so it's all a bit strange but good to worry about something other than cancer I suppose

Going to the inbetweeners movie tonight Grin

Speedypenguin · 07/08/2014 17:57

Glad the dressing is sorted ludoole.

The nice relaxing morning in town with cake and tea was then tempered by getting stuck in the car park for ages at the hospital! Nobody could move at all until someone came to direct everyone. What fun!

Malt. Changing age groups means lots of work for you. Hope not too much though. Which age now? I've actually missed sorting the class, although I did go and help my job share back a couple of boards. I ran out of energy quickly though.

Speedypenguin · 07/08/2014 18:00

I also meant to say hope you enjoy the film.

weebarra · 07/08/2014 18:01

Crap about the parking Speedy, and can identify with DSs trying to kill each other!
A woman I see in the playground but don't know came up to me today to say how much she liked my new short hair!!

weebarra · 07/08/2014 18:02

Oh yes and I do the same thing with my arms!

Wren48 · 07/08/2014 18:07

Ludoole, glad the dressing is ok. The pico dressing used to keep me awake with its intermittent buzzing...

Thanks, Speedy and Malt. The lymphoedema was pretty obvious, Malt: my hand and arm swelled up after some intensive gardening. It did subside, but then I clapped my hands to try and get a mosquito and my thumb blew up (kharma, obviously) and that hasn't gone down. Yet.

Enjoy the inbetweeners movie, Malt, and I hope that the plan for the new age group is feeling ok now.

Speedypenguin · 07/08/2014 19:34

Wee nice to know someone else's children are at each other as well! Then when I get cross or impose a punishment they decide I am the bad guy and are all friendly again!

wineoclocktimeye · 07/08/2014 20:09

Great news Nelson.

You know that promise I made that I would appreciate my children everyday and never shout or get cross again....... Well, I'm thinking of getting a whistle and changing my name to ref Smile

Hope the lymphodeama gets sorted soon wren

Hope everyone doing ok.

malteserzz · 07/08/2014 22:00

Thanks for explaining wren

Speedy I'm going to a mixed year 3 and 4 class :-0 I was gutted but it's a nice small class of children I've taught before so I'm ok about it now, I job share so the workload doesn't all come down to me thank goodness

Film was so funny and we weren't the oldest there !

RahRahRasputin · 08/08/2014 07:56

Waving to all, nothing very useful to add.

Welcome ludoole, sorry to hear about your DP. I've had bowel cancer but stage 3. There is another poster but she hasn't posted for a while. If you haven't already seen, there's also a support thread for people with partners who have cancer in the General Health board if you might find that helpful. I hope your DP's wound heals quickly.

Has anyone heard from MyNewNormal? It has been a while since she last posted. If you're reading Normal, I hope everything is OK Flowers

malteserzz · 08/08/2014 10:07

No haven't heard from normal, hope she's ok too

kitkat1967 · 08/08/2014 10:43

did normal used to be difficultpickle? If so I've been wondering how she is.

wineoclocktimeye · 08/08/2014 10:49

Was wondering about normal and becca too.

Hope you're doing ok and hopefully it's just holidays keeping you away.

maltz, I'm going back to school in sept after a year off (I'm a TA). I'm in Reception which I love but it does seem like ages since I've been Mrs Wine!

malteserzz · 08/08/2014 11:43

I was shattered when I first went back wine but soon got back into it, I'm sure you'll enjoy being back and getting back to a bit of normality :)

Wren48 · 08/08/2014 12:12

I think Difficultpickle must still be an inpatient at Kings which has rubbish wi fi. Poor woman is probably deeply frustrated with lack of communications there.

I think Mynewnormal was BishB (?). It would be nice to hear how she's doing.

elportodelgato · 08/08/2014 13:32

Hello everyone, I am just checking in quickly before we fly off on hols early tomorrow morning! I am 2 weeks post-op, feeling better every day and can't wait for our long break in Australia, hurray!

Nelson, I am so delighted by your news Smile

Minty and briteside I'll be thinking of you starting your chemo next week. Good luck with everything, I will be keeping everything crossed that the SEs are manageable for both of you.

I'm probably going to take a little break from mn while we're away but I look forward to catching up with all of you in September. Lots of love and luck for a great summer for all of us xx

malteserzz · 08/08/2014 13:57

Safe travels elporto and have a wonderful time :) x
