I don't want to drink today. Anyone else?

Fed up. Drinking far too much on pretty much a nightly basis. Inspired by Dinny's thread last night I've decided to take a one day at a time approach to cutting right back/stopping. I'm posting this because I decide this pretty much every morning but usually give in later in the day - but if I've made some kind of public committment then I have a better chance of sticking at it.

If anyone else would like to join me in not drinking today, that would be lovely.

well done, everyone! I've been so much more full of energy since I stopped quaffing so much - have even been doing thw Flylady bathroom swiping first thing, getting dressed, made-up - just feel so much better!

zippy, know exactly what you mean about wantint to drink but not!

Sanity · 15/09/2006 11:54

Good morning everyone...just. I made it through with out an argument or drink...the only thing is I am finding getting to sleep a bit of a pain...used to just fall into bed and pass out...oh god, how bad!

I was planning on having a drink tonight, but haveing talked to dh, we have decided to wait for a couple of weeks before allowing alcohol back into our lives....we didn't drink everynight before and we can do it again.

Mad fool that I am...I want to do this, to prove to myself it isn't a 'problem'!

dinny · 15/09/2006 14:34

well done, Sanity - that's fab. sleep thing annoyed me at first but I zonk out as soon as I get in bed now. I know it's obvious but a warm bath straight before bed and milky drink really do help....

Sanity · 15/09/2006 14:42

Thanks dinny I will try that...I could sleep easily during the day though....like now, just before school pickup...

Berrie · 15/09/2006 15:22

What is flylady?
I can't sleep either!

moomooland · 15/09/2006 18:32

Boring question here sorry - does anyone know what the weekly alcohol units translate to in terms of wine??? Think if i can crack this cutting down/no drinking on school nights, i would like to make sure i'm not going over at the weekends instead....someone told me if you subtract 3 from %alcohol of bottle of wine then you get fair idea but i not sure if this is right. Don't think i want to stop drinking completely but would like to be able to honestly say i won't exceed weekly guidelines, but easy to kid myself if not careful cos the wineglasses i use are huge so need to think in terms of how much of a bottle rather than number of glasses i get through.

Berrie · 15/09/2006 18:55

sorry moomooland, don't know.
Have just taken wine back out of airing cupboard and put it in the fridge...
Would tell you my tesco story if I could bear to relive it.

nolastar · 15/09/2006 19:41

I knew I wasn't going to do it tonight..far to ingrained in my behavioural patterns..its Friday after all ..an that means you should at least try to have fun ..even if your husband is still in the sodding city ..its me and charlotte church tonight gals!

naswm · 15/09/2006 20:03

so have I got company tonight then?

nolastar · 15/09/2006 20:09

H EY..You sure have..if we lived in Portugal..which I am seriously thinkin of doing I would be a positive saint..

Sanity · 15/09/2006 20:34

Oh well...sorry, I am currently drinking my 2nd glass of very nice chardonnay...and as for the units thingy, the Dr told me the % was per litre, so if you have a litre of 13% proof wine, then that as 13units.....that blew my estimation out of the window on the life insurance application.....

naswm · 15/09/2006 20:51

how are you guys then?

Sanity · 15/09/2006 21:00

I am so sorry - I was so determined not to drink...them a friend gave birth and another friend came round with a bottle of wine...the kids have only just gone to bed....what a continental Mum I am...or is that a drunken mum!

moomooland · 16/09/2006 09:09

After being sooo determined yesterday i blew it too with three massive glasses of wine due to last minute arrangements to have friends round last night. Feel so icky this morning that not drinking tonight will hopefully be effortless...

Berrie, go on let's here the tesco story, will cheer my hangover.

zippy539 · 16/09/2006 09:15

Morning all. There's just something about a Friday night that makes you want to drink isn't there? I really struggled last night but the prospect of finally being able to drink on Sunday night (we're having people round) gave me strength .

Come on Berrie - tell us about Tesco's.

Here we go again. I'm not drinking tonight. Anyone else?

Just put the recycling out, think three glasses was a bit of a conservative estimate now (oopsy complete lush) no wonder my head feels like it's bouncing....plus toddler up from 7am, great. Zippy well done for managing another night you must be well pleased. Definitely will be joining you tonight.

Sanity · 16/09/2006 12:22

Well I am back again, head held in shame...dh and I finished 2 bottles last night....passed out and then dd2 woke everyone up at 2.30 ....dd1 shouting for her to be left alone dh shouting go back to bed...ds1&2 screaming cos they are teething/woken up/bad mood....by 4.30 I went back to sleep....awake again at 7...why do we do it...drinking and have children!!! I need more sleep....Not going to drink tonight.....?

dinny · 16/09/2006 17:29

hi, all. well, I am still feeling a bit ropey. was so tired yesterday evening after late shift the night before, should have done the sensible thing and hat a bath and early night but instead I did a knackering ashtanga class and then went to the pub afterwards. Had 2 large glasses of chardonnay in pub and about 4 fags, came home and had another large glass and stuffed face full of Kettle crisps and hommous before falling asleep on sofa! felt surprisingly crap this morning (or maybe not surprising!)

I'm not going to drink tonight (I don't think) - may have a glass with supper as my rule is Fri and Sat nights....

Moomoo - sorry to say a bottle of wine between 12-14% proof is 8-9 units

moomooland · 17/09/2006 09:35

Feeling much better today - back on track, didn't drink last night, so ready to make my morning declaration that won't be drinking this evening either...right better let dd onto mylittlepony site again. Good luck for tonight if anyone joining me x

zippy539 · 17/09/2006 11:08

Morning all - well done last night Moomooland.

Right - can't make my declaration this morning cause I AM going to be drinking tonight. Looking forward to it but also a bit worried that I'll totally fall off the wagon. If I'm not on here tomorrow morning making my declaration someone hunt me down and drag me back.

Hello, well, I ended up having 1/2 bottle of red last night and I feel awful today - irritable, headachey, no energy. it's just not worth it! think sucha relatively small amount mad eme feel vile as have cut down so much so tolerance is lower. Sat and today I've been so much more moody and miserable amd tempted to not drink AT ALL.!!!

Moomoo, well done, Zippy, enjoy tonight's drink and see you tomorrow!

zippy539 · 18/09/2006 09:08

OMG - feel bloody awful. I only had a bottle of red which was quite conservative for me considering we had people round from 6.30ish to 11.30 but this morning my head is thudding and I can't concentrate on anything. Can't believe that a couple of weeks ago I was regularly drinking that amount and still functioning (sort of...).

I'm soooooo not going to drink tonight. Anyone else?

moomooland · 18/09/2006 10:21

zippy539 · 18/09/2006 11:42
