Mooncup views in RL

I have very recently started using a mooncup and I am really pleased with it (now I have got the hang of it). I want to rave to my friends/family in RL but after telling one friend she was a bit Hmm. Just wondering do friends/family in RL know you use a mooncup and would you back up a mooncup if people said it was weird?

I would agree, about three cycles should do it.

Also I find it easier to insert the mooncup during my period and more difficult at very start or very end. Presume it's about lubrication!

I had a mooncup for years, the larger size because I've had three children. Recently I've struggled with positioning it correctly and I have now invested in a smaller and softer Meluna cup, which is much more comfortable.

frogslegs I first tried a menstrual cup as tampons weren't fitting properly. I think you'll be OK, as they form a seal as soon as they are in. The only time I get a little leakage is if I've had my cup out for a bit, so there is blood below the cup, iyswim?

Not messy, imo. But then after 1-2 days, I don't need to change during the day, so can do all in the privacy of my bathroom. I get though quite a bit of loo roll at work where there is no sink in the cubicle.

Conversation I tend to run mine under the tap if I'm putting it in dry. better still if its warm water.

I love mine and happily tell anyone who asks! DH was the one who first told me about it because he's member of an environmental group who were talking about it.

I love mine and will happily bleat on about how fantastic it is if it ever comes up in conversation - in fact, I often wish the topic would come up so I could convert some more people! but i think i would look like a loon if i tried to crowbar it into normal everyday chitchat Grin I don't mind a wtf reaction - I like surprising people who don't even know mooncup exists.

i have converted one friend so far and she loves it too .

Thanks for the replies to my questions Thanks
I think I most likely will get one, I've still probably got a good few years of periods left so it makes sense to be comfy, more hygienic and kinder to the envoironment too.
Thanks again, much appreciated - sorry for the hijack OP X

I don't know too many people in RL I could convert, the one person I told was like Hmm.
I don't think it is that messy when you get the hang of it. I have used my mooncup for 2 periods and have already pretty much mastered using it. I swear the suction increases towards the end of each period, as I find it more tricky to remove then.
I have now bagged up my spare unwanted sanitary towels to give to someone, no idea who I will give them to, but the subject of mooncups will crop up then, because I am sure they will ask why I no longer need them!

Thanks ladies. I bought a mooncup before I had my lo years ago. Never tried it and as it was wrong size I got rid.
Now eager than ever to try again. Must admit to feeling a bit yuk about it but then again I do with tampons and they are just so blinking yuk and faffy!!!

Suppose that's a good thing :)

snugglesrock I did have my doubts to begin with it has taken me ages to take the plunge and buy one, but I am glad I did now. I have never really used tampons except when I have been swimming. Plus I always felt crampy whilst using them and when I was a bit lighter they would drag. This was one of my concerns when using a mooncup, but I haven't experienced any cramps so far.
The other plus side for me is not having have used sanitary products wrapped up in our bathroom bin.

A friend in rl recommended the mooncup to me. And I've recently convinced two rl friends to give them a go.

that is great news brianthemole I am hoping that one day I will find someone in rl who thinks they are a good idea and not weird. I know there are a few lady family members who would be Hmm but I think the longer I use a mooncup, the less I will care about the funny looks when the subject crops up.

I always post or share stuff from the mooncup site on Facebook, my friends are horrified & works never consider using one.

I have very recently started using one as I'm swimming a 5k swimathon in a month's time and my period falls right then...after a bit of a kerfuffle i am getting used to it,though find getting it out neatly a bit hit and miss ! I am hoping it'll stay safely in place and not leak during my swim, which should take about 2 and a bit hours. I would certainly recommend them so far to others,if it came up in conversation.

fanyfifer I think that is great you are posting on facebook, you never know there may be one or two ladies secretly considering it, it took me long enough to try it.
maryannsingleton Swimming is one of the things I am not sure about and at the moment I would perhaps wuss out and use a tampon Blush
Any ladies out there who swim on a weekly basis and use a mooncup successfully?

Report
addictedtosugar · 22/02/2014 20:26

Mooncup and swimming was as successful as tampon and swimming.
MaryAnn - would you consider going on the pill for 2 months to skip a period by running two sets together? I understand you can do this complete pill virgin here

No problem swimming with a mooncup in. I swim 100 lengths once a week. If I'm bleeding heavily I'll empty it before I go in but wroth a medium flow I just empty mine in the morning and before bed and that doesn't change because of swimming or other exercise. The nicest thing about a cup is that it really does feel as though there is nothing there.

Thanks to this thread I've just ordered a diva 2 off amazon. Looking forward to giving it a whirl

I suffer really bad periods v heavy n since having lo a few years ago have to use a towel aswell as a tampon as the tampon always leaks. Do you guys reckon the cup might solve this issue? Would be amazing to be able to swim every day of the month again!! Wink

Report
heatseeker14 · 22/02/2014 21:32

snugglesrock Awesome that you are going to try one. I can't really advise re heavy bleeding as I only really have 1-2 days max which are heavy for me, but I doubt many ladies would consider this heavy. I really hope it does work for you hopefully there will be someone to come along to post shortly. You will have to let us know how you get on Smile
I will try using my mooncup whilst swimming, although this might not be for a while, as I have to get over my aversion of public swimming pools first Grin

I've been using one for a couple of years now. Thanks MN. Love it. Never fallen out.

I get 2 heavy days when I wear a panty liner because I sometimes get a bit of leakage. It needs changing much less often than a tampon.

DC are not bothered. It's less weird than a tampon imo.

I only tell other women if they ask me for a tampon/sanitary towel. Most have never heard of it.

It took me a couple of months to manage the work toilet situation. Leaving the cubicle to wash hands was tricky.

I sterilise mine overnight by putting it in an old mug full of cold water with a milton tablet.

I've only told two friends who I know are generally like minded, i know I wouldn't tell some people! Also make sure my reusable pads are always hidden on the line. I'm a wimp!

Hmmm mother just thinking of work we have no toilets with sinks in either. Hmm
But others are saying can last from morning to evening?? Confused.
I generally leave for work at 720 and back latest 430. Wonder if I'm worrying unnecessarily?
