I have very recently started using a mooncup and I am really pleased with it (now I have got the hang of it). I want to rave to my friends/family in RL but after telling one friend she was a bit Hmm. Just wondering do friends/family in RL know you use a mooncup and would you back up a mooncup if people said it was weird?

crimsonwitch I didn't realise there were so many brands available and at only £12.99 that is a bargain for anyone wanting to try a menstrual cup.
Is it still going ok snuggles?

I have been using a cup for about a year and I wouldn't go back to tampons now. I think I may have converted my Dsis as she has recurrent thrush. I told her that I got thrush often after my period until I started using a cup, and I haven't had it since. I think she is going to give it a go.
I use the rainbow cup purchased off amazon. It's a fraction of the price of most of the other cups I've seen and works great for me. I dont get any leaks, despite having very heavy periods, and I can't feel it at all when its in. I have had to cut off the stem completely though as my cervix is very low.

Heat it really is amazing. Was expecting way more getting to know it time but instead it's been fab from the start. I'm quite frankly amazed!!!

Love the mooncup. Why doesn't everyone use them love never having to dispose of sanpro now that is grim

When emptying my mooncup in the office toilet stall, I bring a bottle of water in with me (e.g. a small mineral water bottle) which I use to rinse out the mooncup and my hands and do a little courtesy wash. That way, I can come out the stall without looking like I slaughtered a chicken. I then wash my hands properly at the sink.

It feels so fresh when you use a mooncup.

I have had a diva cup for a few months, and has totally changed how I feel about mensturation.

I used to dread it and be in pain and have heavy flow and last about 9 days with pads and tampons.

I know have a much more manageable time, and only lasts about 6 days, unsure why this is! For the heaviest 2 days just back up with a pad as a precaution but very rarely leaks.

I find it convenient, environmentally responsible and like having a bladder for the womb. Fantastic idea!

Wow wow wow!!
Diva cup arrived in the week. Period started yday. Couldn't wait to get home to try it last night.
Got lo in bed and psyched myself up for the bloodbath. It was fine. Couldn't rotate it tho so I was expecting to leak. But I didn't. Was very brave and left it In overnight. No leaks!! Was in 12 hours managed to get it out this morning and empty and reinsert. Bit tricky to get out as I couldn't release seal but wasn't too bad.
Hoping it continues like this Smile

Ah -- with my eyes on the prize of one day being able to go running with my dds, being able to walk briskly home after a couple of glasses of wine.. and after being on here knowing how common these issues are, I went to my GP and got referred to the bladder &bowel service on the NHS. It is very helpful and I totally recommend it (despite the potential for embarrassment - believe me they have seen this before, and they wish that more women with these issues would come forward and get help for them). It is possible for the muscles to be too weak for the exercises to have any benefit, in which case they give you an electrical stimulation device, and then support you in getting the exercises just right for you (rather than the standard advice ones).

Afuzzyphase, how do you know you're doing the exercises right? I've always struggled with them and suspect I've being doing them wrong.

The Meluna XL may be a good alternative while you continue your pf exercises as they have softer versions. Also the Skoon is said to be softer than a Mooncup as reviewed by our very own regainingunconciousness above Smile not sure about sizing though? Keep going with the exercises afussyphase I was reading on a web site that apparently it can take up to 15 weeks sometimes before you notice a difference.

I have a Meluna and it's really comfortable. Seems pretty soft and flexible but stays in place v well.

I have the one with a ring at the bottom rather than a stem and it seems to solve the problem of being stabbed in the fanjo, plus it's easy to pull out.

I don't have any problems with leaking as it sits like a 'hat' over my cervix. I can tell when it needs emptying as it feels full.

Other than one heavy day when I have to empty in the middle of the day, I find it only needs emptying when I get up and again when I go to bed.

A Meluna has revolutionised TOTM for me, hassle free and easy. I just wish I'd discovered it ten years ago!

Afussyphase, the soft mini Meluna is more comfortable than the mooncup and stays in better for me with my rubbish pf (3 babies, two over 9 lbs!). Having said that, this month I'm struggling a bit with it slipping low too and worried I have a bit of a prolapse. I'm waiting for a gp appt so I can ask her.

afussyphase · 27/02/2014 21:24

Do either the sckoon cup or the meluna one stay in better / are more comfortable for those of us with completely spent pelvic floors? i can only use the mooncup overnight or when I'm sitting; as soon as I start walking around it slips down and is INCREDIBLY uncomfortable. I'm working on the pf but it's slow going, and I don't think there are any guarantees - and meanwhile that hard-ish bottom part of the mooncup (have cut the stem entirely off!) is just brutal!

heatseeker14 · 26/02/2014 22:36

thanks regainingunconsciousness it sounds great. I think blue is a good colour, I have noticed that my mooncup looks slightly discoloured and perhaps that wouldn't show up as much if it was coloured.

Reporting back on the sckoon cup: it's really soft and squishy and I've found it much more comfortable than the mooncup. I think because it's soft it fits better, and (except for heavy day) I've had a lot less leakage. It's smooth inside so rinsing it out is much more efficient. And it's blue!

I like it Grin

I can't comment on swimming as I haven't done that for ages.

However I do run regularly.

I ran a half marathon last year, and my period started on the very day. Nice. But the mooncup meant I really did not worry about it at all. Tampons can sometimes feel like they are falling out, and I certainly wouldn't run 13 miles with a sanitary towel -imagine the chafing.

I only empty mine morning and evening apart from 1 heavy day when I need to empty it a couple of times during the day. If I am out, then I just give it a wipe with loo roll and wipe my hands too, before washing my hands properly in the sink.

I use it for swimming without any problems.

DipMeInChocolate · 22/02/2014 22:31

I've mentioned it in RL but nobody is keen. I bought mine pre MN. I can't remember how I came across it and hated it the first month but a couple of months later I was brave enough to try again and had it for over 10 yrs. Only just got round to replacing it. I think they're fab, reduce my pain and faff of taking san pro to the bathroom at work. Also shortens my period by a day or two. Not sure how.

Thanks. I'm not even sure where our disabled loo is at work

Must come up with a plan!!

Report
RegainingUnconsciousness · 22/02/2014 22:04

For most of my period emptying morning and evening is all I need, except one day in the middle when it's really heavy and I need to empty it almost hourly!

On those days I've been known to duck into the disabled loo (shh, don't tell AIBU!) if I have to. Otherwise it's empty and a wipe with loo roll and trying to wash my hands discreetly!

I've never got on with swimming - I find the mooncup fills up with water. But then I get leakage too, even when it's not a heavy day. One of the reasons I'm trying a different brand.

Hmmm mother just thinking of work we have no toilets with sinks in either. Hmm
But others are saying can last from morning to evening?? Confused.
I generally leave for work at 720 and back latest 430. Wonder if I'm worrying unnecessarily?

I've only told two friends who I know are generally like minded, i know I wouldn't tell some people! Also make sure my reusable pads are always hidden on the line. I'm a wimp!

I've been using one for a couple of years now. Thanks MN. Love it. Never fallen out.

I get 2 heavy days when I wear a panty liner because I sometimes get a bit of leakage. It needs changing much less often than a tampon.

DC are not bothered. It's less weird than a tampon imo.

I only tell other women if they ask me for a tampon/sanitary towel. Most have never heard of it.

It took me a couple of months to manage the work toilet situation. Leaving the cubicle to wash hands was tricky.

I sterilise mine overnight by putting it in an old mug full of cold water with a milton tablet.
