Yesterday, I found out that ... and I'm scared.

I will be brief as I feel like I've entered a time warp where my brain has frozen, incapable of long sentences:
Had hip pain and have been waking at 3am most nights with back pain (not terrible) for about 1-2 years.
Thought I needed a firmer mattress.
Finally went to consultant.
Two MRIs and an X-ray later, I was ushered into a private room having just been told that a large tumor is at the base of my spine.
They called me back in within one working day of the second MRI.
I'm now waiting for a biopsy which will be on Wednesday or Saturday of next week - to determine its 'nature'.
Scared
Shocked
There was talk of chronic bone erosion in the lower back as a result of this thing. Also discussion of nerve paths and tumors, rare cases and cups of tea.
Now, lying awake as usual in mild discomfort, I'm in utter shock and disbelief.

Got a text from Goodness at 3.48am! She's ok and definitely still has her sense of humour. Hopefully she's nice and spaced out on drugs.

GoodnessKnows · 30/01/2014 00:26

Hi girls
Having looked questioningly at those asking me to rate my pain on a scared of 1-10 (as I had none), I've now made my way rather too far up it!
Pain
Now on quite a concoction.
Hoping it'll allow me to sleep.

Delurking to say I hope the pain relief kicks in, and I'm so glad you're back posting. We're all still here proffering hands to squeeze...

livelablove · 30/01/2014 00:50

Oh I hope the pain relief kicks in too. Hope they are taking good care of you Thanks

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 30/01/2014 01:10

hope you are soon feeling better x

GoodnessKnows · 30/01/2014 02:39

Happy to say that pain relief has worked. Still need to be turned to avoid it getting bad but it's nothing like it was.
I'm drowsy though - not just because I'm sleepy -

My BP is under 80 and (TMI WARNING!)
I'm passing a bag of water per hour. I've been checked though. Doc is happy. Very confusing all this. I told them they'd get a better BP reading from the other arm (one next to bed). I was right. Think they were v relieved!
Bored but tired.

Can you Mumsnet easily? It's quiet this time usually (I'm in Australia hence wide awake) but I find a trawl of Classics usually passes time pleasantly. Depends if it hurts to laugh though...

GoodnessKnows · 30/01/2014 04:09

Internet connection mostly okay fur mn but not for streaming. You in oz?

Hey, goodness, I can keep you company through the wee small hours. I'm in Singapore. So glad you're through the surgery safely. Were the docs pleased with how it went? They pour a lot of fluid in during surgery so passing it now shows you have good kidney function. How are you feeling?

I got through my long flight, though had an expensive flat seat. Had to have a wheelchair at the airports, though which was horrid.

You just drift. I remember feeling after surgery that it was just like being on a super-long haul flight.

Keep taking the meds!

Eastpoint · 30/01/2014 04:25

I find listening to podcasts is a good way to drift, radio 5 with Richard Bacon, freakanomics, the archers, mayo & kermode film reviews. If I miss a bit falling asleep I just listen to it again another time.

Sending you best wishes for a speedy recovery.

GoodnessKnows · 30/01/2014 04:46

Hi Matilda n East. I'm drowsy but don't want to sleep. Bet I'll regret it. Have nightmarish images when close my eyes.
Started on Breaking Bad. Have kept it for just this occasion. Lol
What u doing in Singapore? Were u embarrassed to use the wheelchair or was it just bloody useless?
