Apologies for the bingo reference, couldn't think of a witty title but the other thread is very nearly full.

In honour of our new thread I have piled extra apple pudding on the trolley so tuck in :)

Grin WHAT AN AMAZING DAY Grin I managed a whole day at work. Did all the school/nursery runs, and although feeling a bit tired now, I had a really good day! Even found I started to get my appetite back, which might be down to the exercise! Or the fact my darling charges had made me a batch of cookies to welcome me back Grin

I feel so grateful that I am able to work at the moment. I know not everyone is as lucky. So feel free to ignore my post! Don't mean to upset anyone, or be annoying! But wanted to share! Xxxx

malteserzz · 18/11/2013 20:20

That's lovely really, I'm glad you had a good day Smile

weebarra · 18/11/2013 20:22

V good really, it's nice to feel a bit normal!

Tiny100 · 18/11/2013 22:30

Glad you had a good day Really, I can tell it means a lot to you to keep everything as 'normal' as possible. It sounds like your chemo experience might be a bit like mine - one week of being unwell and then two weeks of being back to normal(ish).

Techno - I hope you feel better know that you have a plan of action. I was diagnosed in October and have already had two chemo rounds under my belt. I will have eight in total, followed by surgery and rads. I still have times when I get hysterical about the whole situation, but the ladies here keep me sane. Hope all goes with telling your boss tomorrow.

Knitting - I might be wrong, but I though everyone under going chemo was entitled to a voucher from the NHS to put towards a wig. I am sure this was mentioned to me, but I didn't find out about it because my medical insurance was going to cover the cost.

FooFoo - Hope you manage to get some sleep and feel a bit better in the morning.

Marshy - I think a cuddle with a kitten will be just what the doctor ordered to lift you sprits whenever you are feeling a bit low. Good luck with toilet training, which reminds me I must start doing this with my toddler.

Thank you ALL for the wig advice, it has helped me enormously. I have found one I liked by Rene of Paris. It is in a style that I used to have and I spoke to a really helpful customer advisor who helped me with colour. I have also found someone who specialises in wig cutting, so I just need to wait for the delivery! I have also had a really lovely day catching up over lunch with a friend and then howling with laughter at the bush tucker trial. I feel Matthew Wright is going to score quite highly on the annoying meter - think he would make for a good tumour name! Grin

foofooyeah · 19/11/2013 18:38

Hmmm, where is everyone okay? I got my mojo back today so coffee and work today, parents evening this afternoon.

I really need to go to the shops but don't fancy going out in the cold. Brrrrr.

Technoprisoners · 19/11/2013 18:43

Hello everyone, hope everyone's okay today.

Deep breaths, I told my Head today. He was so fab. Went in the loo afterwards for a little cry. Feel I've taken things onto a new level now, a wobbly but necessary next step.

Off to do dc baths and try to relax a llittle this evening - extremely tired.

weebarra · 19/11/2013 18:55

Very cold here today - not looking forward to hairloss in this weather.
Saw my lovely gp today (have a fungal thing, prob from the anti-bs). She told me to phone her any time and she'll make sure she gets back to me etc. I know it's a small thing but it does make me feel a bit looked after. Have also booked onto a LGFB session for Jan.

Gigondas · 19/11/2013 19:26

Stay in foofoo - that said I am off Xmas shopping tomorrow. Feel ok and saw onc today who did blood test that showed am normal Smile. Bad news was little they can do to stop the fever reaction with bone drug so not looking forward to that.

Techno be kind to yourself - shock makes you tired .

Really so pleased you are back at work but also Shock as I know how hard my nanny works.

reallyreallyworried · 19/11/2013 20:13

Hi Gigs I'm loving being back Grin today I accepted help when another nanny offered to drop my eldest charge home, after her club. I think being back gives me something else to focus on, and in all honesty I feel 'okay'. I know the affects of chemo can be cumulative, so I am prepared that maybe later on I won't be up to working full time. But right now, I am loving it.

Sounds like you have a busy day tomorrow. Pleased to hear your bloods were okay Smile Good luck with the shopping!!

Sounds like you had a busy day foofoo hope it went well.

weebarra I was thinking the very same thing today! It was soooooo cold, and I still have a head full of hair. Can't imagine how breezy and cold it'll be without. Hmm

On the subject of hair loss, how long after starting treatment did any of you lovely ladies, find you started seeing signs of hair loss? I'm guessing it's different for everyone, but just wandered. Also did anybody else have issues with 'spots' Sad I have a small patch of spots that came up a few days ago, on my chin. They look horrid, and are bugging me more than anything else! Not sure what if anything I can use on them!

Hope everyone has a lovely evening. Xxxx

BetsyBoop · 19/11/2013 21:18

really - hair loss usually kicks in somewhere around two weeks after first treatment - but everyone is different as you say. I had loads of spots during my first cycle, most disappointing to look like a spotty teenager after everyone had promised me "chemo-spa" skin Grin (that kicked in about cycle 3)

Tiny100 · 19/11/2013 21:37

Really - My hair loss kicked in 21 days after my first chemo session and has been rapidly falling out ever since. I now have an obvious bald patch on my crown, which I am trying to disguise with a bit of a comb over. Blush I seem to have terrible dandruff as well.

No spots, but I wouldn't describe myself as having the chemo spa skin yet - hopefully it will come!

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 19/11/2013 23:36

My hair loss started about 17 days after first chemo. On the first cycle I also had some spots. My skin improved after second cycle, thought not chemo spa quality yet!

I have my third cycle on Monday. I'm feeling pretty much normal this week. So fitting in lots of errands and meeting friends every day, so having a fun week. Housework and at-home chores will have to wait until I am house bound again!

reallyreallyworried · 20/11/2013 11:27

Thanks Betsy, tiny and momofTwo it's good to have an idea of when I might be facing the hair loss. As for the 'chemo spa skin' can't wait for that. Spotty 'old' teenager look, isn't great Sad

On a plus my 4 year old charge told me today that I am beautiful, BUT when I lose my hair, I shouldn't be sad. Because then I will be a 'cool' pirate nanny Grin

This is exactly why I LOVE working with children! Life is just so perfect through their eyes.

How's everyone doing today? Seems to be quiet on here at the moment. I hope that's because everyone is out enjoying themselves and preparing for 'christmas'!!!!

Xxxxxx

malteserzz · 20/11/2013 13:51

It is quiet on here
I had 1 good day but back to being shattered, not sleeping and feeling really down and not being able to see an end to all of this
Have cancelled all my plans for this week, don't want to see anyone or do anything
Have an appointment with my surgeon on Friday to discuss node clearance hope he will do it before Christmas
Hope everyone else is doing better than me

Technoprisoners · 20/11/2013 16:42

Sorry you're feellng down, malts. What is the situation with your node clearance, if you don't mind me asking? Did they take any nodes away previously? Can you take a pill tonight and try to get some decent rest? If you're not sleeping, it makes everything seem magnified, I know. Hugs for you.

handbagsatdawn · 20/11/2013 16:43

Hello just popping in to let you know I'm still alive! Recovered from chemo 1 nausea-fest after a few days so have just been getting on with enjoying life. Had portacath in last Thursday and that has been properly sore and annoying, but settling done now thank goodness. Chemo 2 yesterday and seem to have got anti-sickness meds under control this time, although quite tired. So am feeling fairly in control, and hope I will bounce back quickly this time and be able to get on with some fun-stuff. Apologies for not keeping up with anything, but wishing you all well, and hoping everyone is doing ok xxx

handbagsatdawn · 20/11/2013 16:45

And love and hugs to you Malt x

malteserzz · 20/11/2013 17:02

Thanks handbags glad you're doing ok
Techno I've ran out of prescription sleeping pills and don't really want to keep taking them long term, I have some nytol which helped a little last night. The node clearance is because when I had my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy in June they found cancer in the sentinel node. They wanted me to have chemo 1st, then the node clearance then radiotherapy so it just seems to have been going on forever

Anyway I'll be ok sorry for bringing the thread down Smile

Technoprisoners · 20/11/2013 17:21

Don't worry malts, that's what this thread is for, yes? Can you get a quiet, relaxed evening lined up - early bath and early bed with a good book plus your Nytol? Seems you've got the first bit done with and you're now planning the 2nd stage (clearance), so that's good - it is progress - and I don't see why they wouldn't do this before the end of the year, providing you're clear of your latest chemo and it 'slots in' to the plan? It will happen - you'll feel better on Friday, just hang in there and be quiet by yourself if that's what you need now xxx

BetsyBoop · 20/11/2013 17:37

aw malt I think I've said before I took a long while to feel anything close to ok after my last chemo, and it gets you down doesn't it? (and it does get better, I promise :) ) Things that helped me were making sure I went for a walk every day (even if I didn't feel like it I felt better for it afterwards), doing "little" things that I enjoyed but that wouldn't tire me out too much or need much concentration (making a cake, making some cards, doing a pedicure, etc for me, but they might be things you hate of course!)

I second doing all the things to help a good night's sleep, everything always seems much worse when you've not had a good sleep.

Hang in there, we are nearly done. I'm only just over a week since my bmx and I feel so much better already - we are nearly at the end. :)

foofooyeah · 20/11/2013 23:07

malt when I go through sleepless phases I try not to worry about it but get up, drink tea, potter about and watch crap TV. I now I can nap during te day and actually quite enjoy the time to myself. This will get better.

Gigondas · 21/11/2013 08:51

Did huge post but swallowd i.fiofoo and betsey are right malt but I works try valerian and magnesium at night as shown to help sleep.

Dh back later with New York goodies- one of snow globes he bought for kid confiscated as too much water by security tho. Off to see Physio later for hand which does seem better.

Finished most Xmas shopping and managed day with no nap again!! Any ideas for gadget mad dh welcome tho!

Gigondas · 21/11/2013 08:52

Other archers fans- anyone else longing for end of Darrell story line !

Lilymaid · 21/11/2013 09:06

Gigs the whole story is ridiculous and I can't wait to have him shipped off to the nearest hostel/fall under a car (not Jill's now) to get rid of his whiney voice. The sainted Shula also sounds much the same so a bit of quiet time from her would also be in order.

BetsyBoop · 21/11/2013 09:18

How are you doing today malt? I hope you had a good sleep?

Hope physio goes well gigs

I'm finally feeling like I have some energy again :) I also have a small amount of hair sprouting :) Tis good to feel bits of "me" are back again, hopefully I'm still in there somewhere Grin
