Apologies for the bingo reference, couldn't think of a witty title but the other thread is very nearly full.

In honour of our new thread I have piled extra apple pudding on the trolley so tuck in :)

Great news Marshy you must be very relieved.

Malt - i went back to bed after the kids went to school as well and had a nice sleep - it makes such a difference.

saw onc today and was suprised to be 'signed off' until March. I thought he would need to see me after the last chemo but apparently not. He is writing up the Tamoxifen for me so I will get it tomorrow - he suggested starting it now but as I said I didn't want to add to my meds at the moment he said it will be fine to start it in Jan. He really played down any SEs and said that post-BC ladies not on Tacoxifen get the same problems - we shall see.

And interestingly he said that the Metformin (that I am taking for the diabetes) has a BC preventative effect that they do not understand but that it is not a bad thing to take if you've had BC - how wierd Hmm.

And I have an etiquette question for you ladies - I have seen the same nurse for treatment in clinic since Jun (so will be 6 months) - at least every other week - so when I finish in 3 weeks time my instinct is to take a nice box of chocs of something - does that sound appropriate or is it not the 'done thing'?

Gigondas · 12/11/2013 19:16

Well done foofoo. I am sitting in bed eating fruit gums and painkillers hoping it gives me sufficient energy to put kids to bed.

I am eyeing up a big envelope to send mini to aunty malt for a few days. She is so cute (when not up in night - even then she can be lovely).

kitkat1967 · 12/11/2013 19:18

oh and for anyone who feels 100 my DD said to me last night that I look much younger than I did before (sadly we all know what 'before' means) - at least 10 years apparently!!!

And the secret to winding back the clock is ..........

lose your hair but get a great wig (she loves the wig);

have fab skin due to chemo facial effect;
get ill from chemo and lose a few pounds;
wear skinny jeans (that were previously a little on the tight side);
and finally wear an old shirt which happens to be from Hollister Wink.

So I may feel feel 100 but only look 30 something Grin - got to take the positives where I can I guess.

kitkat1967 · 12/11/2013 19:20

ahh Gigs Mini is indeed so cute. Aunty Malt is lucky to be getting her - maybe she can do tour and you can have her back for Xmas.

Gigondas · 12/11/2013 19:26

I am still waiting on my chemo facial this time! I look and feel about 100.

Well mini gig temporarily out of postage on her tour as is asleep (for now).

malteserzz · 12/11/2013 19:31

Bet she looks even cuter asleep ! Will look forward to the big envelope arriving soon. Actually I heard a knock on the door today and jumped up and slung my wig on because I thought it was a parcel and it was just the meter reader !

My skin is softer too but haven't had the weightloss, the opposite

Feel less achy today I think but still knackered, maybe down to 95

BetsyBoop · 12/11/2013 19:41

marshy - great news

really - glad first chemo went ok

for all those feeling 100, I am with you there - was back down to about 80 before surgery, so hopefully I can hit 80 again soon!

Well I survived, I'm home with two drains in and I'm feeling surprisingly okay both physically and mentally after my bmx.

Gigondas · 12/11/2013 19:48

That's good you are home Betsey and it's done. Get on sofa and stay there with those drains.

foofooyeah · 12/11/2013 19:58

betsy good to hear that your home and feeling surprisingly well.

I don't know how old I feel as I can barely remember how old I am supposed to be.

We could have mini gig next week .... I'm not too far away early so can collect rather Han posting her.

foofooyeah · 12/11/2013 20:00

If you don't mind leaving her with a fat and absent minded lady of indeterminate age

weebarra · 12/11/2013 20:25

Glad you are home betsey - take it easy.
Also congrats on work foofoo - funny to be glad to be back, isn't it.
Maybe mini gigs and mini barra should get together, mine is 12 weeks tomorrow and is just gorge.

kitkat1967 · 12/11/2013 20:28

wow Betsy - great news that you are home already. Keep resting and try not to get the drains caught on things (kitchen cupboards was my downfall!!).

Anyone else into Masterchef the Professionals? I'm a big Monica fan.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 12/11/2013 20:37

My taste buds are bugging me !!!! It is early week 2 of second cycle.
Chocolate is now horrible. And so many things taste bland or vile.
Not totally gone. Pepper and salt taste better than usual. But crisps also yuk. I'm staying off wine until weekend. Fingers crossed that I will still be able to taste wine.

Does it change within each chemo cycle, or is it like hair, once it's gone it will stay gone until after chemo???

weebarra · 12/11/2013 20:43

Watching M/chef here too. Makes up for the fact that food tastes shite at the moment...

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 12/11/2013 20:43

betsy, it must be good to be home, and to have surgery behind you.

Lilymaid · 12/11/2013 21:28

Betsy Good to read you are back home and OK (ish).
*Mom" I'm still waiting for my tastebuds to return (nearly 5 weeks since last chemo). Wine is still a strange substance to me ... and seems really strong. Chocolates are a bit meh and my sense of smell is ridiculously enhanced so can smell box of chocolates from a distance!
Still feeling a bit nauseous despite going back onto the anti-nausea meds. At least it means I keep the weight off.

malteserzz · 12/11/2013 21:34

My taste buds come and go with each cycle, so by the time I went for the next lot they were pretty much back to normal. When they are at their worst I find scrambled egg and porridge good but also strong tastes like marmite. I struggle with drinks and often end up with lots of half empty glasses everywhere !

Gigondas · 12/11/2013 21:53

Wee I didn't realise Mini barra was so tiny. Mini gig was also tiny when I was first dx and had treatment . Mini never liked my wig -would try to pull it off Grin.

malteserzz · 13/11/2013 08:00

Morning all
How's everyone today ?
Good luck foo foo and Kitkat for your chemo today hope it goes smoothly and remember it's 1 more nearer to the end Smile
Any other appointments today ?
I'm waiting for ds to go to school then going back to bed, that's my exciting day !

reallyreallyworried · 13/11/2013 09:26

Morning all

Congratulations on your good news Marshy I am so happy for you Grin

Betsy I am glad your surgery went well, hopefully the drains will be out soon! Look after yourself.

Good luck to those having Chemo today.

How you doing malt feeling a bit younger I hope Grin

I'm doing okay. Feeling fairly human. Although have no appetite whatsoever, which is odd as I am taking the steroids! But I am eating even if I don't really want it. Luckily I have enough extra weight to not have to worry too much. Did my injection yesterday, that was easier than I thought. I think I have been really lucky with very few side effects, long may that last.

Think the hardest thing I have found is friends and family asking me how I am, and when I say okay. They reply, are you sure?! It's like they expect me to be half dead, well I am sorry to disappoint them. But so far so good.

Hope everyone has a good day. Or a nice restful day.

Xxxxxxx

smee · 13/11/2013 11:11

Yay for Marshy! So pleased for you. Smile Smile

And hooray for you too, Betsy. Bet it's a relief to be through the op. Hope the drains go soon. Rest up. Smile

In a rush as ever, so apologies for not posting more. Will be in and out a bit, but crazy work deadlines plus addled parents to look after probably means you won't see me much. Love to all though. Amazing women! xx Smile

malteserzz · 13/11/2013 11:11

Glad you are ok really, the people on here who had bad sickness seemed to get it straight away so bet you'll be ok now Smile I think there is this myth from films etc that people in chemo are just in bed, medicines have come on a long way. Are you at your parents now ?

I've just woken up again and will get up soon !

malteserzz · 13/11/2013 11:18

X posted with Smee, hello Smile hope your parents are ok
I dream of being busy again so enjoy it !

smee · 13/11/2013 11:27

Waving to Malt. Yes, you're right and it's amazing to just be able to get on with life. Never feels like you'll get there when you're in the midst of it all, but it will be out there still for most of us. Smile

kitkat1967 · 13/11/2013 11:48

Glad you're feeling reasonably OK Really. As malt says it seems that with FEC you either suffer with sickness/nausea or not and there don't really seem to be many other SEs. (Tax is a different story - we all seem to get some of quite a wide range of problems Sad).
Enjoy being able to function but do watch out for tiredness so don't go mad!!

I've had a light bulb moment here this morning Grin - I've been struggling to come up with any ideas for Xmas for DS (especially difficult as it was his birthday last week as well) - anyway I suddenly thought of a karaoke machine (he is singing and dancing mad) and a dance mat for his wii. DH agrees so am busy ordering. Have seen you can get a Hip Hop and a Black Eyed Peas dvd for the dance mat so that's good.

And as I can't discuss it in RL (except with DH and DM) can I have a proud boast from DS's parents evening. We know he is bright but were told he is an exceptional mathematician and linguist and for both these subjects has his own work. Also he is exceptional at all humanities work. Basically each teacher was at pains to say he was the best they had for that subject - his only weakness is writing with creativity and empahy (his techincal writing skills are amazing). BUT most pleasing was that they all loved his behaviour and attitude and that he has calmed down from previous years (he's rather prone to an argument and being grumpy) - great news that my illness has not impacted him in a negative way (he's the one who likes to discuss each appt and the details with me). Anyway we were chuffed so that's my one mention of it Blush - will say no more.
