I guess I start..
My cervix is on the outside, it can't all hang where it should and no manner of pelvic floor exercises or devises will get it back there.
I'm 41, one fab dd and wanted more but there you are, can't now can I?

This thread, hopefully, will be for those waiting, recovering or supporting

Odds are you offsetting your pain meds so you are covered the whole time? You should be able to work it so that you are taking something every 3 1/2 hours. I offset paracetamol+codeine with ibuprofen and after it had had chance to built up, it was mostly pain free.

I'm a huge fan of the glycerin suppositories too.

TiredDog · 29/11/2013 17:01

I really am in denial about this op. I have 6 paracetamol in the house. I will buy some more and some of the miracle suppositories

I can't quite believe I won the JL vouchers

What help are you getting at home Odd?

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 29/11/2013 18:57

Excellent news about the John Lewis vouchers. I love it.

Can I give you some advice? Make sure they send you home with stronger painkillers than you can get over the counter. I was sitting in my GP's waiting room 48 hours after the op because I'd been released with only paracetamol and ibuprofen. Not only that, but the nurse was giving them to me at the same time so it wasn't possible to have pain relief cover for the full 24 hour period without going over the limit of what I could take.

Waitingaround · 29/11/2013 19:28

And can I give you Some more advice- do not under any circumstances try to muck out a stable at 6 1/2 weeks post op- it will hurt!! ( I am soooo stupid)!

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 29/11/2013 20:14

Waiting see that wooden spoon in your kitchen?

Give yourself a clatter round the head with it, will you?

Hmm Wink
TiredDog · 29/11/2013 21:18

I have bought anything in JL in my life! Or Ikea... Not known for my shopping.

Waiting....doh! That sounds a little ambitious

Codeine and morphine based pain relief causes constipation which is my worry. Just how many packets of glycerin suppositories will I need?

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 29/11/2013 22:35

Just 1 pack. The hospital might also offer lactulose which is great for keeping stools soft so you don't strain your pelvic floor for hard stools. There's a detailed 'how to' for your first post op motion upthread.

I think lactulose is available in chemists too.

thekingfisher · 30/11/2013 04:28

Well it's 4.30am and woken myself up in pain so just dosed myself up again - think its a combination of oain pain and also wind need to do a poo pain so will be giving this suppositories anyother go in the morning.

Ouch ouch ouch tummy feels very sore like bruising is all coming out ... Prob is ....

TiredDog · 30/11/2013 08:20

Ouch king. I hope you took it easy after being discharged. Straight to bed on the sofa when you got home?

thekingfisher · 30/11/2013 09:28

Yes straight to bed although obv more active than I had been as had a shower walked to car had car ride ... Up nd down stairs a few times ... Back I track with drugs - I think it's just feeling a lot more hurty than I thought it would . I am going to take another suppository as that may be part of the issue ConfusedShock

Tired I did have abdom hyster so don't panic too much

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 30/11/2013 09:40

I'm off to John Lewis today while DS3 is in his music thing.

I'll be Envy of your vouchers as I eye up the sewing machines Tired.

If it's any comfort to you, I was in a lot less pain than I expected to be after the op and it would have been even better if they'd got my meds right. I had 1 tricky day but I wasn't rolling around in agony. Basically, if I had to do it again I would be much less worried. The experience has given me the confidence to have a tummy tuck in the summer when I had previously been terrified of surgery (and I do mean terrrified).

So this time next week you'll be home and dry?

shewhowines · 30/11/2013 10:10

Odds and king - hang in there. It gets better very quickly. Thanks

Tired - stop the twitching and opt for a little jitter instead. Congrats on the win. Have you decided what to spend it on yet?

Waiting- you mad fool. Have you not listened to any of us about taking it easy. Go to the naughty step! Sad

My jolly was great but wasn't restful. Many hours of Xmas shopping was involved. My body coped admirably. I'm proud of myself Grin
waiting take note that I am 12 weeks down the line, that's why I get a gold star and you get the naughty step!

TiredDog · 30/11/2013 13:30

My jittering has settled. I have a really busy weekend and few days so don't think it's going to be forefront of my mind.

Shewhowines. No idea! Friends have suggested a new wardrobe (I am the scary old bag lady). JL is an hours drive from me. It's not going to happen for ages but something to look forward to after the sales maybe.

King I think stairs us a lot of tummy muscles..avoid as much as poss maybe?

Waitingaround · 30/11/2013 13:31

Well done on the shopping she I'm sorry about the mucking out-I got a little carried away- it did really hurt for about 24 hours but all feels okay again now, so actually quite pleased with myself but I won't be attempting anything so daft again for a while (scared myself). Tired if you need any help with your vouchers I'm willing to give you a hand Smile
odds and king your both doing really well- take the opportunity to rest and let others look after you.

thekingfisher · 30/11/2013 14:59

Thanks all I am watching back to back ER season 2 so am chilling .

Odd how are you today ?

Oddsocksrus · 30/11/2013 17:51

Hallo
Much better today, I've sorted out the timings on the meds and taken tramadol both days :)
How have the rest of you been sitting up? I'm having big pain and fainting problems if I'm upright for more tha five minutes.
I know I have a lot of stitches to sit on but I was hoping to sit at the Sunday lunch table tomorrow....
I am also seeing the error of my ways not bringing lactulose home, senacot and dried fruit increases the wind.... It's awful!

OP posts:
Waitingaround · 30/11/2013 18:31

Odds how about a cushion, or a rubber ring

Cremolafoam · 30/11/2013 18:56

Odds I definitely had trouble sitting at a table for the first couple of weeks. Gave up and used a little traySmile
I also sat on one if those microwaveable warm cushions with a a folded fleece blanket over the top.
Might help???

shewhowines · 30/11/2013 19:12

You can buy lactulose over the counter at chemists. It's a lot cheaper than buying a prescription too.

Sounds very uncomfortable. I've heard the rubber ring trick works. Might be worth it. Poundshops sell them, I think!

How many ers have you watched king ? That would be a bit too close to home for me!

thekingfisher · 30/11/2013 19:54

Think I watched 6 episodes !

I have od'd on paracetamol this pm by accident as I was really sleppy and took a dose with my diclofenac but then remembered I'd taken some only 2 hrs before with codeine.

So can't take anymore until tomorrow other than codeine a bit later and diclofenac at 9.30 ish which is apain.

Wind still hurting more than I thought and even having done a suppository erlierbwhichbwas lovely wind has built back up .....

Odd I can't sit at a table yet although did just have some dinner siting on soda for 1/2 hr - now back in bed !

greenfolder · 01/12/2013 08:43

Hello! I had sub total on Wednesday to remove enormous fibroid. Home in my lovely lovely bed. Can I ask a couple of questions? How long did you keep the support stockings on? Did you have much bruising? I am black and blue to the navel. Did your wound hurt? Can't even feel mine!

thekingfisher · 01/12/2013 09:05

Hi green and welcome I has a total on Wednesday . And am back in my bed. I was told in a rather throw away manner as I left on Friday to keep stockings on for 6 weeks ! Not sure if that is actually true and will check tomorrow at my appt to remove clips.

As for pain the site is numb but I have lots of pain int the whole tummy region and if I bend oddly and I get a clip dig into the wound ! It feels like I have been punched and kicked in the tummy basically and if I get mess out of sync then everywhere is uncomfortable

I have loads of bubble wrap type wadding stuff at the wound site but can see lots if hideous black and purple bruising moving its way down so am sure there is lots there !

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 01/12/2013 09:09

Welcome Green. You and I had the same op for the same reason. I'm 7 1/2 weeks post op now.

The hospital told me to wear the stockings night and day for 4 weeks then nights only for 2. Half an hour break around shower time was ok. I have to admit that I left them off while I was walking from around week 3 and left them off entirely from week 5. A close friend had a blood clot after hers and she was young and very fit when she had the op so I was well warned.

Are you having problems with your stockings?

I had no bruising at all.

My wound stung when I moved around but not nearly as much as I expected it to. I have areas of my tummy that feel relatively numb now but I think it takes a long time for some of the nerves to recover?

Fire away if you have more questions - it's a lovely friendly thread, with an important key word - REST! Smile

greenfolder · 01/12/2013 09:24

Puts green elf stockings back on combined with the red Xmas slippers I really do look a third elf. I have a wide scar due to the size of the fibroid. Consultant went back to check mri scan as it had trebled in size in the 6 weeks between that and the surgery. No clips to contend with but as the swelly belly has gone down I can see more bruising bruised stretch marks, who"d have thought? Wind is ok as I took my own stash of settlers in with me but yet to contemplate first bm

greenfolder · 01/12/2013 09:51

Oh might have to have a mosey at er any other ideas for tv series-I have love film and sky.just finished greys anatomy (skipped a few including the bizarre singing episode and the let's skip back in time episodes)
