Morning all, new thread, croissants on trolley, and I'll put a brew on.

OP posts:
smee · 05/09/2013 21:15

I'll sit on the box for you too, Ruby. That headache sounds irksome, but stress of scan probably isn't helping. Will you have to have them regularly from now on?

Gigs, I somehow missed that about your DH's work colleague. How sad and pointless too. Sad

MAS, we got married about a year after I was diagnosed. I think that's why I couldn't quite cope with the family as they'd all think I was doing it because I was about to die or something daft. We had a lovely day, pub lunch outside in the sunshine, then champagne with a few v.close and dear friends at home. Was stress free and utterly perfect. Smile Have you loaded DS up with stationary?

Nerf guns Sparkle?? We have 3, plus zillions of bullets. Sooo therapeutic. In fact just a v.few hours ago I was barricaded one side of the bed with the washing basket as a shield as DS and two of his friends tried to get me to surrender. They caved in when I threatened no Jaffa Cakes. Grin Does DS still like his school? I remember all the stress you had of trying to move him. Really hope it's still working out. x

How are you Malt?? Did you snooze through Downton?

topsyturner · 05/09/2013 21:34

Can I pick your brains ?

Friend of my sister had chemo , then mx and recon at same time , and is now on herceptin .

She's been told its time for rads now , but she has been told that she will be having rads once every 3 weeks .

I've never heard of rads over this time scale .
Have any of you ? Or has she got wrong end of stick ?

topsyturner · 05/09/2013 21:35

My wedding was 17 years ago tomorrow !
We had about 80 guests , full catholic mass , big hotel reception .
But that was all for DH and his side . Left to me we would probably still not be married Grin

topsyturner · 05/09/2013 21:36

And Ruby , I think you should speak to someone about that headache .
It's seems to be dragging on quite a bit .

topsyturner · 05/09/2013 21:37

There's so gonna be a Nerf War if/when we eventually meet up !
Grin

malteserzz · 05/09/2013 21:49

Topsy do you think she misheard and they meant once a day for 3 weeks ? There's so much to take in it would be easy to get the wrong end of the stick

I fell asleep in downton smee then was falling asleep in location location location so I've come to bed. And now probably won't sleep Grin

reallyreallyworried · 05/09/2013 22:27

Hi All

Quick update.

Arrived at hospital yesterday at 7.30am. Had tests and pre op stuff done by 11am. Then was told I was 2nd on the afternoon list! I waited and waited, got more and more nervous and worried that they might cancel. Finally at 4.30 I was taken up to the Anaesthetic room. Then they had a prob with patient in front of me! So had to wait for staff changeover!

2hrs lying in the anaesthetic room all hooked up to machines, they did give me a pre med so I dozed on and off. Then 2hrs later, I finally got put out! Don't really remember any of that! Woke up at 10.15pm although apparently surgery finished at 8.45pm.

So ended up staying in for the night. Left at 11am today Smile Feeling battered and bruised. Still a bit light headed. But very very glad that it's over. I will get the results and find out what's next a week on Monday!

Thankyou for all the positive and supportive messages. They were much appreciated.

Hope that you have all had a good couple of days. I was VERY sorry to hear about Emin, and send lots of love and best wishes to her family Thanks

smee · 05/09/2013 22:45

Well done reallyworried!! So glad you're home. Watch out for the post anaesthetic blues and let us distract you while you wait for results.

Grin at nerf war, Topsy. DS has one where the bullets stick to your clothes. I went out the other night and a woman at the bar took one off my back... I reckon Malt's right about the rads and she hasn't understood.

Sending Malt zzz vibes. x

jchocchip · 05/09/2013 22:49

Glad you are home, really. Sounds like a terribly long day.

EcoRI · 05/09/2013 23:15

Bonsoir!
Saw surgeon today and fuckity fuck, I need a full clearance. The crapper is that they don't do clearance for less than 2mm invasion, I have 2.1mm Hmm.
So just have to pray that the remaining nodes are ok - I only had one in three positive sentinel nodes so they're optimistic that the others should be alright.
And then it's on to chemo which I can't say I'm looking forward to.. Will be picking your brains on the best way to get through it.
And then radio and then tamoxifen.
CANCER IS GRIM.

Hope you're all well Flowers

EcoRI · 05/09/2013 23:16

Oh really hurrah for having your surgery!

kitkat1967 · 05/09/2013 23:28

Crikey really that was a long wait but at least you are done now and back home. You can join those of us on the waiting game.

ecori - I had 2.2mm in 1 of 2 sentinel nodes and my onc and surgeon said it was so close to 2mmm that I did not need the clearance. Surgeon had a good look around for me when he did MX on Friday and said nothing was enlarged or suspicious looking so all remaining nodes left in in my case. Do you know what chemo you are getting?

EcoRI · 05/09/2013 23:39

kitkat yeah, my nodes all looked clean too when my surgeon inspected them.
My tumour was grade 3 so that swayed the decision I suppose, it's a massive pain though as I really don't want another operation.
Probably having FEC, possibly with Taxol (haven't met me med onc yet). BOLLOCKS.
Got any survival tips?

Shootingatpigeons · 06/09/2013 00:13

eco I had all my lymph nodes removed because they were trialling sentinel node biopsy and I got put in the control group Sad. I don't remember the measurement but my one rogue lymph node was completely rogue, and none of the others were. I had a grade 3 tumour too, graded 3 for aggression and the speed with which it was growing. I thought that the point of sentinel node biopsy was that by injecting the dye into the lymph channels near the tumour they can identify the nodes the lymph runs through first and test those. I think if 2 out of 3 were clear it must be very unlikely any more will be involved (That is such an inappropriate description, like they are having an affair with that bastard cancer).

I think Trice may have had lymphedema but I have exercised that arm, been stung, bitten, scratched and lifted heavy weights and had no problems. I think that as long as you are sensible and build up gradually.

Chemo is so much worse in prospect than the reality. I had such dreadful perceptions of it but though I had a tough time (I was on a regime they don't use anymore because of the side effects, particularly in terms of white blood cell counts and your immune system) actually in the end I endured it, ticked off the months and eventually it was over. It is a bit like being pregnant, complete with the nausea, or going for a serious drinking binge once a month. There is a whole gang of ladies on the chemobus at the moment so they can fill you in but these days they are very good at managing the side effects. And as to the long term side effects such as chemobrain, which I was petrified about, well it is hard to disentangle the effects of aging. However I did go off and do an MA just (partly) to prove I still had a brain and rest those demons and I did rather well........ However I will hand over to the chemogang for up to the minute tips.

Really That was rotten, being kept waiting like that. You should have demanded some serious drugs as compensation Wink I am sure you are very relived to get it over. We'll be here to hold your hand for the results.

Shootingatpigeons · 06/09/2013 00:15

Eco Just in case I sound in any way breezy about it. Yes, it is GRIM but it is doable.

kitkat1967 · 06/09/2013 00:18

Ah I see - my tumour is a particularly un-agressive grade 2 so I guess they can be more flexible.
I've done 3 x FEC (was not good for me but others have breezed through) and now waiting on latest plan.

malteserzz · 06/09/2013 06:54

Really what a long day ! Glad its all done now though, try and rest now Smile

Eco bugger about the node you can let me know how the clearance goes as I have that to look forward to as well ! I had my 3rd chemo yesterday and will give you any help I can with that. The ladies on here helped me so much with mine and I should have listened when they said it wasnt going to be as bad as I feared Grin its different for everyone but I've had no sickness or nausea yet, just tiredness, metal mouth and generally feeling off and a bit groggy, but this only lasts for about 4 days and starts on day 5.

I managed to sleep from before 11 till 630 the longest slept I've had in months! Think the tiredness might be building up as its my 3rd cycle.

Ds back from pgl at 4 can't wait to see him !

kitkat1967 · 06/09/2013 07:01

well done on the sleep Malt - you'd better prepare yourself for the bag of clothes/washing that will come back from PGL - hopefully it won't be a complete health hazard!!

jchocchip · 06/09/2013 07:01

Bugger about the nodes ecori.
Morning malt sounds like you slept well. Brew then work for me. Hospital at 10.30 Confused fingers in ears lalala.

malteserzz · 06/09/2013 07:07

Best of luck Jchoc x x

Kitkat yes not looking forward to the washing ! Looking forward to giving him a good bath tonight

Shootingatpigeons · 06/09/2013 07:47

Oh Malt Grin I remember little pigeons washing after PGL Shock stiff yet mouldy......

I hope he had a great time. Little pigeons loved it and went two years running.

Sitting on the box for you jchoc and everything crossed

Gigondas · 06/09/2013 07:57

Sat on box for jchoc.

That's good about sleep malt but Shock about likely state of ds washing.

Ecori- sorry that wasn't news wanted but agree with pigeons that chemo is doable. We will all handhold you through it , the clearance and anything else you need.

had lovely meal out (sitting outside) with dh- cant believe change in weather here as rainy and cool.

Big gig got first trip back on school bus today - had a bit of a where is my baby moment about it. Big gig of course is desperately excited about bus trip Wink.

back into town for therapy after summer break and also (fingers crossed) to get leg wound checked. Mr gig reckons its healed so let's hope he is right as that would mean swim time soon. After that lunch with work friends.

Pigeons- loved the frog photo in FB.

Am afraid I can't compete on nerf wars (but did Smile at the dart stuck on your back smee). I am keeping their existence a secret for as long as possible from the gigs. I already get whacked and kicked enough by mini gig (she is very proud to walk over and say "mama kick" then kick me) so I fear a nerf gun in her hands.

Gigondas · 06/09/2013 07:58

Does early post mean cracking jet lag pigeons or you are at the summons of the mini pigeons?

jchocchip · 06/09/2013 08:05

Gosh does big gig have to get a school bus every day? Two of mine had to get a bus for a while but only because of building works at the school. Was a pain when they forgot musical instruments/ packed lunches because it was so far.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/09/2013 08:10

well done reallyreally - hope you aren't too sore and are resting. V pesky about node removal ecoRI -grr.
T up and putting stuff in his bag- faffing about what to take...weird to see him about so early.
Am having hair cut (well trim) and low lights today -that'll be cheering.
