Morning all, new thread, croissants on trolley, and I'll put a brew on.

OP posts:
kitkat1967 · 02/09/2013 11:35

Malt - I was assuming I would get a flu jab due to chemo - seems to make sense I think.

longtimelurker62 · 02/09/2013 11:51

Worried about our lovely Ruby .
Hoping frequent nocturnal trips to loo weren't sign of something needing a
trip to hospital .
I don't do Facebook - has she been sighted there ?

longtimelurker62 · 02/09/2013 11:52

EcoRi have PM'd you tips on upright sleeping .

jchocchip · 02/09/2013 11:57

I'm a cat lady too. Friday night had a lift with a friend and two friendly german shepherds. One sits in front 3 adults in back one in boot of estate. For one minute. Then lap dog came to join us!
Sorry I've not been around much this weekend, have been moving some furniture long distance. Hope you got nice salad ecori.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/09/2013 13:07

I am cat person but really want a dog !
Will look for ruby on fb...
Yes, you should probably go and have a flu jab malt - I do anyway as no spleen, but those on chemo advised to.

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 02/09/2013 13:52

Oops sorry to cause worry! I am pretty good just absolutely zonked from lack of sleep and trekking back and forth to bathroom all hours of day and night.. No need to worry about me having to go to hospital as my medical team are not interested in my plight in the slightest :)

longtimelurker have you by any chance sent me a couple of PMs? I can't read them as they just won't load Confused but if that's you then Flowers and Cake and lots of very gentle hugs for you! :)

reallyreally you're not pathetic at all! I was anxious about surgery too as never had a GA before. I've now had four and I absolutely love them GrinBlush after my big op I was SO grumpy when they woke me up as I was having such a nice sleep! It really is just like a normal, deep sleep. When the anaesthetist came to see me before my first op he told me to think of a place I'd like to visit, a favourite food and favourite person. Then when I got to the anaesthetic room he asked me about them and told me that's what he was going to talk about until I was asleep so I would dream about them. I found that quite reassuring so something nice like that to think about as you go under might help :) I didn't actually dream at all as far as I remember. One minute I was drifting to sleep and the next I remember hearing voices as they finished applying my dressings etc, as I started to wake up, then when I opened my eyes I was in recovery. Sorry if this doesn't help at all but I was very anxious about it all beforehand. It also helped to tell myself I had no choice, I just had to get through it.

Sorry that's very rambly.

Waving to everyone!

I'm planning to venture out for a bit of stationery shopping today :)

kitkat1967 · 02/09/2013 14:04

Hi Ruby - sorry to hear you are still visiting the toilet at all hours - you must be exhausted by now. Why are your doctors not interested in you?

I love stationery shopping - are you going to prepare for uni?

As for GAs I think I love them too - I have also really liked the two anaesthetists that I have had Smile. Now that i know to make sure I don't get any Morphine I will be qute happy going for my next Op.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/09/2013 14:19

I don't think my anaesthetist was at all good as he scarecely spoke to me and just jabbed my hand with a canula..love the sound of yours ruby
Sorry about all the lav visits though.

Shootingatpigeons · 02/09/2013 14:32

One mad dog, two cats, one psychotic, one sweetie, and if I could a horse too.... I think I'm an animal person......

gigs I would just watch out for the breeding issue, both pugs and King Charles have serious inbred problems if you are not careful. I have had too many friends broken hearted by having dogs with all the various problems. Little pigeons has a friend with pugs and bulldogs that just can't breathe properly and so can't really play or be walked. Of course since we have a dog that requires extreme play and walking that may be little pigeons perspective on it. In my extensive experience of the parks, little dog doesn't necessarily mean easy dog. Have you considered a Cocker Spaniel, they are the blonds of the dog world but definitely the breed that seems most often to be the perfect docile family dog. Definitely don't recommend a goondog with young children, it's like having another toddler.....

Two weddings this weekend so my brain cells have definitely been killed off but will try to delve out some relevant experience

Eco I remember having a terrible dull thud out of my chest that takes your breath away at first, even when people just touched it, but thought that was nerve damage rather than muscle spasm. It did wear off as the nerves regrew. You do seem to be having a particularly tough time, I think it might be an idea to get in touch with your team to get their advice. They can be a bit blasé and send you off with a few advice sheets as if that makes it all alright but I wish I had been more proactive getting advice. I ended up with a frozen shoulder w hich probably could have been prevented if I had had better advice on sleeping position etc.

kitkat glad to hear you are home, drains are horrid but you should soon get rid of them. I too was surprised at how untraumatised I was by, in my case, one flat side and one not. I think it was just the relief to have got rid of the thing. I was more traumatised by having a rogue breast.

Waves to ruby and blows some underwater bubbles to MAS

Hugs to everyone who needs them.

kitkat1967 · 02/09/2013 14:51

pigeons - yes it is the remaining breast that looks odd to me which is a surprise actually.

Maybe it's because I have had so long to prepare for this - although the op was ultimately at short notice the mx has been on the cards since diagnosis in May. Or maybe it is because I have met so many people (in RL and here) who've had mx that it is no longer a taboo topic.

Everyone will be pleased to know that I am able to do the washing - several loads on the line - as you all know I get stressed when the dirties build up Wink. Just having to take a couple of paracetamol when the stiffness/tightness from the implant builds up.

longtimelurker62 · 02/09/2013 16:09

Ruby or should I call you Sherlock ? it's me .

Have resent PM's ,strange they don't load Hmm

Nurses were fantastic in hospital ,absolutely lovely . I was so scared they wouldn't be having had really bad experiences in past .

Why don't your team care about your poor misbehaving insides ?
That's really debilitating and affects your whole quality of life .
v Angry on your behalf .

EcoRI · 02/09/2013 17:26

Thanks shooting!
Fortunately, the spasms have been less of a nightmare today, the ibuprofen must have helped.
And I managed a shower and washed my hair! It did take me about three hours but boy I felt triumphant afterwards Grin. Amazed that you can do laundry kitkat, I can't even lift a glass Hmm.

EcoRI · 02/09/2013 17:29

Btw longtime, thank you so much for your tips, I hope you received my reply; I wasn't sure if it had sent.

kitkat1967 · 02/09/2013 18:00

Ecori - as the other girls on here know I do like to keep on top of the laundry and as I was in hospital for 2 days I had to crack on!!! Just need to be careful when stretching up to the washing line - it's my version of physio - tried and tested after the lymph node biopsy surgery. Remember I only had 1 side done though so am sure that makes a big difference.
Glad you feel better after your shower.

EcoRI · 02/09/2013 19:02

I salute you kitkat.

kitkat1967 · 02/09/2013 19:11

aghhh Ecori - I'm sure you're doing fine Brew - it's not a race.

What you don't know is that I can't do chemo - am absolutely pathetic and unable to function for at least a week after being dosed - basically it seems that drugs do not agree with me.

DaughterOfEmin · 02/09/2013 19:29

Hi,
This is Earthmotherimnot's (EMIN) oldest daughter.

I wanted to let you guys know that mum took a turn for the worst at the weekend - after a surprisingly good day on Thursday too! - she was in horrendous pain and we had to have the doctors in and out a few times to help manage her pain. She has been sleeping reasonably calmly since Sunday evening but the doctor told us this morning that she only has a couple of days left now. They are fitting syringe drivers this evening as part of the 'end of life' plan to ensure she stays as pain free as possible and we are gathering the family to say their goodbyes in the morning.

She had asked us to let you guys know if anything happened to her so I wanted to tell you that the end was now imminent because I know how much comfort she got from reading the threads on Mumsnet and how much she loved chatting to other Mumsnetters about babies.

I don't know if she was friendly with anyone from Mumsnet in RL and if anyone would want to come to her funeral but should you wish to then you would be more than welcome. Just message me and I will forward the details once it is necessary (we are in the north east of England).

Obviously we are devastated and can't believe how fast she is slipping away from us but I wanted to make sure we followed her wishes.
Thanks.

Gigondas · 02/09/2013 19:34

We all get thru it as best we can- ga paralyses me too ecori so I completely know the taking ages to do anything. I hate it when they end up using the sheet on bed to move me as us final indignity Sad.

Ruby your team are beyond crap but that's not news (did you ever complain about your onc). I do hope that get more of a break as constant waking a frigging nightmare ( not that I am looking at mini gig at all). but did you have any luck with purchasing?

had nice day in sun escaping builders With pizza lunch then trip to play beach .

pigeons - the health thing is a concern (have had cavaliers before - one of which had heart issues which did blight and eventually cut short her life). Cocker spaniels are on long list tho have slight concern about exercise needs .

Dh wants a jack Russell but have rejected that until he retires cos of training/exercise needs and I am not sure ( lovely tho they are) they are young dc dogs. Am of opinion that you owe it to dogs as much as kids to choose right hence why swayed toward smaller/family dogs.

The grooming one point is a good one nj- cavaliers are labour intensive (ESP round ears ). Also you have a cross breed- have been wary of those but suppose no need if go to good breeder .

I like cats but am highly allergic so not a great option.

amberlight · 02/09/2013 19:37

DaughterofEMIN, hugs aplenty for you all. Please give EMIN my love. Be as kind to yourself as you can. She's a wonderful lady and I am sure that service will be packed out with people whose lives she has touched.
Brew for all of you whilst you do that trickiest of waiting...

amberlight · 02/09/2013 19:42

...and I've bumped up the thread that EMIN started about her song choices, in case that helps...

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/09/2013 19:51

daughterofEMIN thank you for letting us know -that is kind. It must be so difficult for you to be going through this and I'm sending lots of loving kindness to you and all your family and especially to emin - I hope she can slip away peacefully and without pain. xxxxxxxxxxx

Daughterofemin- cross posted. Thank you for update and am glad that they are keeping her comfortable.

Your mum is a wonderful lady who has touched many people including those on her. My thoughts and love with her and your family .

amberlight · 02/09/2013 20:05

Footle, hi and welcome. What helped me the most is a calm someone who can take it all in their stride, remember what's what, and do the transport there and back. A decent magazine or two for the inevitable waiting about is good, too. And a really good cuppa and slice of cake afterwards helps a lot, I found.
As you may have read from earlier, the modern treatments are fab for most people (not fun, but effective). So a quietly positive attitude is a good thing.
Hope your friend can join us here too. All are most welcome.

topsyturner · 02/09/2013 20:11
