Morning all, new thread, croissants on trolley, and I'll put a brew on.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 01/09/2013 12:52

hooray for going home kitkat !
Welcome back ecoRI but sorry to hear about all the horridness - results of surgery so far sound encouraging, fingers crossed for full results.
There's always someone cutting something down or mowing or building here, though thank fully not at 5.45 in the morning...
I can only tolerate X Factor in very short bursts - am v much looking forward to Strictly mind you- love it.
Happy bday to jchoc dh and especially to nj Thanks Cake Wine

BetsyBoop · 01/09/2013 14:44

kitkat is heading home, great :)

malt - glad your hair has stopped falling out - I've still not lost all of mine although most of it has gone, but what is left is still growing, weird!

ouchy, ouchy aches from the tax - tramadol is taking the edge off but making me very dopey. (still better than feeling sick though Grin). Onc said I could double the dose if I needed to, I might do that before bedtime I think or I won't sleep.

malteserzz · 01/09/2013 15:18

Happy birthday NotJ hope youre having a good day Smile
Hope you are home and relaxing now Kitkat
Betsy the hair thing is weird isn't it ! Have you lost any anywhere else yet, my underarm hair has gone but that's all so far. Have my LGFB session on Tuesday so at least I'll know how to draw my eyebrows in before they fall out !

malteserzz · 01/09/2013 21:08

I have killed the thread !
Hope you're all having a good evening Smile

BetsyBoop · 01/09/2013 21:13

I'll keep you company malt :)

re hair = underarm gone, legs, arms and ladygarden thinner, and no annoying chin hair, hurrah for that! Eyebrows thinner but hanging on (I've started using Brow Zings to define them a bit more, fab stuff!) eyelashes hanging on so far, lets see what tax does...

ouchy ouchy ouchy bone pain getting worse, already on double dose tramadol, and heated wheat bags, not much sleep tonight if this continues :( (still better than FEC!)

malteserzz · 01/09/2013 21:26

Hi Betsy
I've just looked at brow zings on amazon, does look good I'll wait and see what freebies I get on Tuesday though. My brows are fair anyway
Sorry you're ouchy Hmm would a bath help ? Have you got the metallic taste and funny taste buds ? Ive had that for a few days each time on fec

BetsyBoop · 01/09/2013 21:35

yep was metal mouth on FEC. On tax tastebuds seem to have switched off (had horseradish sauce with tea today, couldn't taste it, but still got eyewatering up my nose!) and everything I try to drink feels "soapy" in my mouth, tis quite odd. Was thinking I might try a soak in the bath before bed.

trice · 01/09/2013 22:46

Sorry you are achey Betsy. tramadol and paracetamol together worked well for me. Achey bones are a pain.

My eyebrows and eyelashes still haven't really grown back after 5 years, I can't wear mascara anymore as I only have about seven eyelashes!

I have sore lungs at the moment. I need my plural effusion draining as it is taking up half my lung apparantly. Which probably means an op and chest drains. I was hoping it would go down on its own with the chemo. But it is just getting worse.

It probably explains why I couldn't run behind dd who was trying to learn how to ride her bike earlier. I collapsed on the pavement. Dd had a meltdown. Parenting fail.

But I had roast pork with crackling for tea and it was delicious.

Gigondas · 01/09/2013 23:13

Budge up you lot as am around but tired (still got the cant sleep thing).

Trice -annoying will need an op but think of relief (saying that as i am so pleased with this last op ). Roast pork sounds good too (and I can't keep up with either gig on scooter tho mini not really meant to scoot).

Malt I am looking forward to hearing about your day (I had one on me consultation but was more wigs). I found eyeshadow gave best brow effect -I got stencil from eBay. Has about 5 different looks. Also got Dab hand with liquid liner which was very effective as eyelash replacement . But I am bit of make up junkie so loved dabbling.

The other thing I got into on chemo was facial oil as found skin so dry. Have stuck with it and found it so nice for skin.

Betsy sorry you are aching but hope tramadol helping.

Mum coming tomorrow so think its outing for pizza and playground with kids.

Also mr gig and I have agreed to get puppy in new year I think if can find right kind eye. I now it's like getting a newborn (and the accountant in me loves to plan) so thinking how to care for it, train etc. it's been a while since had a dog ( cared fr family ones with my parents til they died about 10 years ago). All tips welcome.

At moment wavering on pug or cavalier King Charles- want it to be smallish, not too exercise/training intensive and family friendly. But all dog advice welcome -am far too scared to go into the doghouse bit here.

Ecori- you ok sweetie?

Gigondas · 01/09/2013 23:14

Kind not eye!!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/09/2013 23:48

Am mega envious about dog !!! Pug would be fab !

EcoRI · 02/09/2013 06:56

Bonjour!
I hope everyone has a peaceful night, I am still mastering the art if sleeping while sitting up and it's #epicfail all the way. When I lie flat, I get these muscle spasms in my chest which feel like multiple heart attacks. Gawd.

Nothing much planned for the day, a few post-mx exercises followed by some rigorous sitting around in bed. With salad. There simply must be salad. How about all of you? Flowers

reallyreallyworried · 02/09/2013 07:17

Hi all, hope you all had a good weekend.

I woke this morning and burst into tears. Not really sure why?! I have two more days before my surgery, and I have been desperate to get this lump out of me. Although I suppose it feels like up to now I have just been on an emotional BC journey! Now the physical journey starts. (if that makes sense)

Things suddenly seem more real, I have BC and I have to face treatment. I'm feeling a bit aprehensive about the surgery (never had a GA before) goodness I sound so pathetic! I'm sorry!

It's odd because I have met numerous friends over the last few days and they have all commented on how well I am doing, and how relaxed I seem! Hmmmm good actress, or am I just feeling far more emotional now because I am alone and surgery is getting so near?!

Anyway I won't bore you all anymore. I hope you all have a good day. Hope KitKat and EcoRi start feeling better soon, after your recent surgeries. Love to everyone else. Thanks

Xxxxx

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/09/2013 08:00

good morning from me - hope there is salad ecoRI ! reallyreally the imminent surgery is always a bit of a thing - I was very wibbly about it but on the day all was fine and dandy - rather a lot of waiting around, but afterwards not too sore and I gratefully hoovered up a sandwich and some jelly ! GA is like going to sleep and then you suddenly wake up and it's all over. Fortunately I didn't feel sick or anything, though some people do.
Swimming today I think. Yesterday at meditation we did a 45 minute body scan meditation which involves lying flat and going around every part of your body in a mindful way- usually very relaxing, but I found my muscles really ached and couldn't feel comfortable so fidgetted a lot.
The very nicest bit about our meditation group is that everyone is so lovely and it feels a very warm and comforting place to be.

topsyturner · 02/09/2013 08:49

Salad EcoRI ?
Are you sure you're on the right board ??? Grin

Really keeping up a positive front to friends and family , and falling to pieces behind the scenes , is all perfectly normal !
That's why we all post on here . We can get rid of all our most secret paranoid ramblings .
Be kind to yourself today x

Gigs you simply HAVE to get a little French bulldog !
And you shall call him Milo !
I have always wanted a frenchie , and I would have called him Milo .
(Think pig/dog would love a frenchie)

First day of a completely empty house since the end of June .
Sheer bliss !

Gigondas · 02/09/2013 08:58

Ohh lucky you topsy. No peace here as got builders in to do up downstairs bathroom. Kids gone out tho as its mini gig baby gym . Then my mum over later.

I do like the pug but am wavering over whether Devine breeder will let us have dog as they can be funny about homes with small . But topsy your dd must have been quite little when you got sauron-how did you cope (thinking about mini gig poking etc but I would plan. That were not left alone).

Also worried as it is like having another kid but I suppose I know what getting myself into as already have3 2 kids.

Ecori- surgery is scary , I have had too much and get anxious every time. But ga is ok- it does take while to wear off but I am not sick. Just bit groggy/weepy like a gin hangover. Also if you are very anxious they can give you a pre med to help.

Foo and malt- morning.

Can hear drilling -looks like work started (and will go on fir ages- they are good builders but they take their time for past experience).

Gigondas · 02/09/2013 08:58

The not Devine.

EcoRI · 02/09/2013 08:59

really my biggest mistake was thinking that surgery would be a walk in the park. So I wasn't prepared for how shit I'd feel afterwards (my op was on Wed and I still feel crappy). Here are my few tips:
Drink loads of water.
Painkillers are your friend but they might lead to grogginess or sickness if either is the case, tell your nurse/doctor.
Have someone with you as much as possible post op. you won't be up to great conversation but their role is to pass you stuff, help move you and get help if needed. Recruit fam and friends to work in shifts.
Buy face wipes and if you can, an electric toothbrush.
Take goodies for the nurses.
Prepare to be horrified by the grimness of post mx bra.
Realise that easy stuff becomes impossible. Getting out of bed might take 15 minutes. This is depressing but normal apparently.

Will check in later with more.

EcoRI · 02/09/2013 09:01

Hah! Salad only because I'm not up to eating much these days and I enjoy lying on my back imagining all that molecular goodness zapping my tumour into oblivion.
It won't last long.

malteserzz · 02/09/2013 09:11

Morning all
Trice boo to the lungs. Did dd learn to ride her bike ?
Gigs getting a dog is good idea, something to look forward to and sure the girls would love it
Eco you are good with the salad I'd be eating chocolate !
Really, I was terrified of the GA too and had never had one before, thought I wouldn't wake up. It's really not as bad as you fear. I just felt groggy afterwards and tearful for a few days which apparently is normal
Mas your meditation group sounds very comforting, enjoy the swimming
Topsy enjoy the peace, lovely !

Morning everyone else

Just dropped ds off at school for his pgl trip, last night he was crying as he was scared of going but this morning was fine. He is so different from dd who just gets on with things and doesn't worry about anything, he's more like me I think Grin
Pre chemo blood test this morning then shopping this afternoon, only food shopping though not nice shopping !

topsyturner · 02/09/2013 09:23

Gigs DD was 3 when we got pig/dog . And to be honest , we've never had any problems .
He has grown up treating her as his litter mate !
The best thing we did though , was to crate train him .
He went to bed in his crate at night , and went in there when we went out without him .
So if he was feeling overwhelmed by the "love" of a small child , he would just take himself off into the box Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/09/2013 09:59

I will be so envious if you do get dog gig ! My parents got a puppy when my brother was ill and it was brilliant - db,the youngest one was about 4 or 5.

Hope junior malt has a fab time - bound to - my brother used to teach sailing with PGL.
My first GA was when I was 6 and it was a bit scary as in those days they didn't allow parents to accompany their children into the theatre (or pre-op bit) I remember being wheeled for miles through flappy rubber doors in Hammersmith Hospital. I don't think they did any play prep either as was convinced I'd have a vertical scar down my middle like the boy in next room (there was glass between us) I woke up to find dressing round my side and a massive tube !
Second GA was to have some teeth removed to make room - I fibbed and said I'd had Weetabix when I hadn't eaten anything,so a very cross mum had to take me home again Grin

notJenkins · 02/09/2013 10:37

Oh a puppy gigs ! How exciting.

We may have a dog or 2 ! I love love love my hounds but would go for a smaller one next time.
We never had any problem with dc and puppies but we went for a docile family breed.

If you search Broadstone Animal Care on fb she has just put a couple of videos of some pugs she is boarding at the moment. Cute but alien like at the same time ....

I do really appreciate that mine don't shed and think clipping them every few weeks is preferable to dog hair all over the house.

I could talk dog forever.

malteserzz · 02/09/2013 11:11

I do love my doctors, it's at the end of the road, I left for my 1015 appointment at 5 past and was home by 20 past
She said if probably need to have a flu jab being on chemo and they might recommend that dh has one too, has everyone else on chemo been told this ?
Cant join in the dog talk I'm a cat lady !

kitkat1967 · 02/09/2013 11:30

morning all - am up and dressed and although i cant shower as I have a pressure dressing i have to keep dry i have had a good wash so feeling OK.
Didn't sleep well due to worrying about the drain and not keen on sleeping on my back but did get a few hours (plus lots of Greys Anatomy watched).
Due to the drain I can't wear a bra yet so have one very small pert boob and one smallish droopy one Grin - kind of disgused by clothes layers I think but am actually not that bothered. I fear that at some point (maybe in the near future) I will be sat in my lounge in just pants a la Topsy Shock as I am just not as concerned as I thought I would be (bigger worries I guess).
Hopefully the drain will be removed tomorrow evening and then next Tuesday the dressing come off. That is when I will also get the results of what they found but not sure if I will know about more chemo (or not) at that meeting as oncs all meet on a Weds morning apparently.

Oh and I'm a cat person too - we have 2 at the moment - one per DC and although they would also love a dog we're not home enough to have one.
