Hello all! New thread as we have almost filled the last one. Help yourself to chocolate chip muffins from the trolley! :)

OP posts:
kitkat1967 · 09/08/2013 08:38

morning - big news here........ I've woken up not feeling nauseous - yippee - finally. Extra good as I am off on my litttle holiday tomorrow so will have more motivation to get us all organised. DCs came home from their respective trips last night so a quick turn around on washing is required.

DS is going to see Percy Jackson film today so is very excited and I am taking DD to get her birthday present (actual birthday is on Monday) - we are going to the Apple Store!!!

Hope Betsy and Lily are both doing OK today Flowers

Eco - as the others said get yourself to the GP today - am sure they will fit you in if you say what the problem is. It's probably nothing but you need to find out.

malteserzz · 09/08/2013 09:21

Gigs rest up you have been busy this week, looks like you've all had a great time
Morning amber hope mr amber is feeling relieved after his results
Mas I've also had vivid dreams, last night we were trying to fly back from Gibraltar but the airport was closed and it was chaos then I lost my shoes !
Kitkat great news on no nausea, apple shop sounds an expensive trip !

BetsyBoop · 09/08/2013 10:12

welcome eco ditto what everyone else said about the waiting being the worst bit.

glad to hear you are feeling better kitkat :) (mine is usually the Friday the week after chemo when the nausea finally lifts :) )

to everyone else and sorry if my chemo brain has forgotten important things.

Well here's my update from onc appt an chemo yesterday. Onc was very suprised to hear I was still being sick on what I was already on (apparently "it's very unusual" so I'm and odd ball eh?) He gave me an extra prescription for cyclizine for next 3 days and (as you can probably tell by the fact I'm posting!) so far so good, no vomiting at all and only mild nausea. I'm up. washed, dressed and breakfasted :) (This time last cycle I was pole axed in bed on the Friday and most of Saturday.) Feeling spaced out, but I can live with that.

My onc has quite a serious demeanour normally (lovely, but serious), but he got quite excited yesterday when he examined me "Oh yes the whole breast is definitely softer and smaller, that is a very good sign, the tumour area definitely feels smaller too, I'm happy with that." :) I also asked about the lump pains and aches I've been experiencing. He said it's very common on chemo and a sign that "something" is going on and given the positive physical signs he's happy that it is another sign of good things going on.

Chemo itself was fairly uneventful (other than having to resite the cannula, but no fainting this time thank goodness), just a case of pumping the stuff in. It's surprising how quickly you can become blase about it all. So that's me half way already. All FEC cycles done, three T cycles to go.

kitkat1967 · 09/08/2013 10:17

Malt - we would never normally shop in the Apple store but this summer has been so different I feel a bit of spoiling is in order. She is beyond excited at the chance to go into the shop and choose.

Like many households (I guess) we have 2 adults with android devices and children who can only operate on an Apple platform Hmm. iPods, iPhone and now probably an iPad mini!!

kitkat1967 · 09/08/2013 10:22

Betsy - glad things seem better this cycle - interestingly the nurse who came to see me yesterday suggested that I should try cyclizine - he even wrote it down for me to take to onc when I next see him.

Glad your onc is happy - makes it seem worth it!! Also glad you didn't faint!

malteserzz · 09/08/2013 10:32

Betsy that is great news both about the lack of sickness and that the chemo is doing its job Smile

Kitkat I think something like this does make you want to spoil the kids and make up for things they're missing out on. Enjoy the shopping !

Copthallresident · 09/08/2013 11:26

eco you have probably been to GP by now and been reassured but I am still finding lumps in my breast before every check up. My Consultant Dr Geek raises his eyes skywards whenever I see him. Breasts have lots of ducts and things and my imagination is perfectly capable of thinking they weren't there last month. The actual lump was unmistakably a lump floating freely and like a thin stick so it is not as though my breasts have form for barely distinguishable nastiness, not to mention that I don't have that breast anymore, or indeed any of the Oestrogen that fed the lumps nastiness. The problem with doctors and hospitals is that they bring it home to you that you have a problem, and that induces anxiety. We all know about appointment induced paranoia.

jchoc I am sorry about the frustrating foot injury, I can understand how frustrated you feel when you have found something you enjoy that is so good for you mentally and physically. And resting when you are injured when you are used to being so active is very hard.

gigs have a restful day. I prescribe more Betty's cakes, or we had some very nice open sandwiches when we last went there, one with mozzarella and Basil and one with avocado and prawns...if you feel inclined to put them on the trolley Grin

sparkle sending hugs to old dog. We had a blind dog, he just knew his way around, until Dad dug a pond Shock he just stood there in it looking puzzled until we got him out. A bit like DH really Grin

betsy great news about shrinking breast, must help with coping with chemo, knowing it is working.

kitkat the temple of apple Grin actually think both big and little Copt being weaned off a bit as both want Samsung phones, although little Copt did say the other day that her IPod wasn't working and she "needed" another one, had to remind her that the verb was "want" and she had better get saving .....

Mas when is big swim scheduled, we want photos.

ruby that was a late one, was that pain and bummy things Sad or just being a student? Would be normal in Big Copts flat.

trice I survived using foxgloves as fairy cups, I seem to remember being told they were poison gave them an irresistible allure Grin

I am sure I have forgotten everyone as usual but waving to all and to smee in French France.

Very restful day as DH on his shellfish course and they can worry about all shellfish and knife related dangers, he's probably fallen in the dock. Niece and big and little Copt arriving at 4, looking forward to seeing her as she has been away over a year but it is all going to get very noisy.....

Lilymaid · 09/08/2013 11:29

Betsy Good news about the Onc being so positive and sickness being alleviated.
I had a good evening out with friends yesterday, so have had a bit of a lie in today and am glad to report that the rib pain from the MRI scan isn't so bad today so can laugh and cough with a bit more ease!
Chemno tiredness not yet set in ... expect it will tomorrow evening, so last chance until the end of next week to catch up on a few jobs!

PictureThis · 09/08/2013 11:41

Malt my hair started to shed seriously by day 15/16 so it looks like your cold cap has worked, (I didn't have it, couldn't face 8 months of not dyeing my hair to colour in the grey roots!).

Great news about the scan results for MrAmber and MrFiggy. Copt the vision of your DH falling in the pond did make me laugh...sorry.

Day 3 of cycle 2 and still feeling ok, just the steroids make me feel a bit woo. Thank god it's the last day of them, on the plus side my windows have never looked so clean and I've been through the midden that is DD's bedroom like a whirling dervish this morning. Just going to make the moussaka for dinner then I will probably collapse in a heap. Anything nice planned for the weekend? We're off to the local agricultural show tomorrow, love them, especially the foodie section with the farmer's markets, home made jams, cheeses etc. Let's just hope it doesn't rain. Enjoy the Apple store Kitkat, we too have a DD who is very proficient with all things Apple, and there are some great apps to be had for them. I just wish we'd got the ipad with the 16 or 32 gb.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/08/2013 11:51

swimming soon copt but no pictures as am looking horribly chubby in swimsuit - am working v hard in order to get 3 pictures done before dh's week off and will squeeze swimming in somewhere (also waiting for pesky period to finish)
Have just had early lunch as feeling queasy and weedy..so feel bit better now !

EcoRI · 09/08/2013 12:21

Hello again. GP appointment for this afternoon, I lucked out with the receptionist who was lovely. My GP is pretty awesome but since my BRCA result, I've become a bit of a nightmare patient.
Will then spend the afternoon with my cousin which should help take the edge off my jitters. Will update.
You are all wonderful Thanks

malteserzz · 09/08/2013 14:54

Let us know how you get on eco

Sounds like everyone is feeling ok which is good :)

Smurfs movie was good Smile

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 09/08/2013 15:27

Late night was mainly due to usual toilet issues, but usually I can go straight back to sleep for some reason last night I was wiiiiide awake! Found a rather funny thread to keep me amused, it's here if anyone is in need of a giggle :)

Eco glad you managed to get an appointment, I hope GP is reassuring and helpful :)

malt good news about hair, and glad you enjoyed the film.

copt enjoy your noisy evening with the girls! :)

betsy and kitkat good news about not feeling sick, long may it continue. Your oncs sound a bit mean with the anti sickness meds, I took them every day for the whole six months, and I'm still using some now it's all over! :)

Hope everyone's having a lovely afternoon

OP posts:
Gigondas · 09/08/2013 15:28

Really? I know big gig keen to goGrin.

Still resting up as leg hurting but others having fun. Will stagger out for last mooch round and pub - will pass bettys for Copt.

Have unloaded my fears on op to therapist so feel a load better.

I also lit a bunch of candles in york minster for those waiting on scans like topsy and for all you other lovely people on the thread .

Eco hope you get some peace of mind from your Gp.

What are everyone up to this weekend?

kitkat1967 · 09/08/2013 16:05

back from lunch out and visit to Apple store. DD picked a 16GB iPad mini and blue cover. Their customer service is very good I must say. Anyway she's busy doing setup things on iPad whilst listening to music on iPhone - grrr.... - hope I don't end up having to ration access.

Accidently bought a new bag in John Lewis whilst out ( not 'the' bag I hasten to add) and am sat chilling as it has all worn me out. Will be making a raspberry and white chocolate cake later and will bung on trolley if it turns out well.

kitkat1967 · 09/08/2013 16:10

oh and DS and DH at cinema watching Percy Jackson - although suspect DH will have a snooze due to large lunch and a beer.

Gigondas · 09/08/2013 16:41

Sounds like a successful afternoon kitkat.

I may have accidentally bought some more clothes (including a stripy top mas). Am rationalising it as know I will struggle with anything too fitted or with buttons while I recover.

kitkat1967 · 09/08/2013 17:23

cake looks delicious (topping still to be done) but there will lots for trolley as both DCs 'cannot possibly eat it' due to the fact it has fruit in it Hmm.

Always good to do a bit of shopping Gig - stripy tops is something I have to step away from as I have too many and always think I have found 'just the one'.

malteserzz · 09/08/2013 17:37

Nice to hear about cake ( sounds lovely ) stripy tops and iPads !
Had nice afternoon with friend and her dd, going out for a curry with dh and the kids in a bit it's a groupon offer we've been meaning to use for a while Smile been before so should be good, may have a few wines to wash it down with too !

kitkat1967 · 09/08/2013 18:15

excellent plans Malt - glad you're going out and about more now - you've got to make the most of the next week Smile

malteserzz · 09/08/2013 20:45

Thanks Kitkat curry was lovely, I will make the effort to go out more I have been a bit pathetic this cycle Grin

EcoRI · 09/08/2013 20:48

Good evening.
I saw my GP this afternoon and practically dissolved in a weepy, snotty mess in front of him. He's described it as a 'very small thickening' (it took a while to find it) and despite my unfortunate genetic background, doesn't think it's anything sinister. But he's referred me to the breast clinic - appointment on Tuesday. I feel exhausted but OK. The waiting is the worst part isn't it?
How are you all this Friday pm? Resting and relaxing, I hope?
Flowers

kitkat1967 · 09/08/2013 21:17

nice pictures too Malt.

Glad you had some reassurance Eco - hopefully Tuesday will put your mind at rest.

EcoRI · 09/08/2013 21:23

Thank you kit. I feel slighly reassured, but in the back of my mind, I know that 'thickenings' can also be sinister. It is small though..
Anyway, I am considering putting on a movie - something trashy and vacuous. How's your evening going? Here's to a happy weekend for everyone!

malteserzz · 09/08/2013 21:53

Thanks Kitkat
Eco glad you feel a bit reassured and haven't got too long to wait for your appointment though I'm guessing it feels like ages ! Which film did you go for ?
I'm watching big brother and drinking fizzy pink Smile
