did any of you hairless girls order the seasalt handybands ? The one I got for Suffolk was very light and comfy and the colours/patterns are nice- soft organic stretchy cotton.

kitkat1967 · 01/08/2013 22:27

not yet MAS - but looked at them and think I might as i don't think I can embrace the wig thing.

malteserzz · 01/08/2013 22:36

Bless you Kitkat hope it passes quickly they do say it gets worse each cycle don't they Hmmhope the meds work
They do look good Mas I'm the opposite to Kitkat and dont think I can do the scarf thing!

BetsyBoop · 01/08/2013 22:40

I got some MAS ( and some buffs) - they are very comfy. so far I'm glad I've not bothered to get a wig as it's been far too hot to wear one. The kids have got used to seeing my bald head in the house as sometimes it's just too hot to wear anything.

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 01/08/2013 22:44

kitkat until last week I was taking two domperidone four times a day so they might be able to up your dose of that, and I've got two that aren't on your list so there's at least two more they can try! :) I hope you get a good night's sleep and feel better tomorrow.

malt glad you're feeling so much more positive and good plan to go to the nice wig place :) and retail therapy is definitely a good idea!

I'm really angry about this stupid rash and the pain and indignity of it all so I am going to bed before I get myself any more worked up!

Goodnight all, sleep well :) x

kitkat1967 · 01/08/2013 22:49

Malt I was the same as you - I was def going to go down the wig all the time route but now my hair is thinning I just can't be bothered with - special occasions only for me I think.

Thanks Ruby I know there are several more levels of meds to go to. I was OK'ish last time so told onc I didn't need anything more. I am hoping it will be better tomorrow.

kitkat1967 · 01/08/2013 23:35

sorry Ruby - just seen that your rash is still a problem. Is your new anaesthetic cream not helping?

jchocchip · 02/08/2013 07:29

Hope the lack of night time posts means you got some sleep! Will try and wrestle sofa cover back on before work. One needs to go back out on line. Will it rain today? Having porridge here, just fancied it. Will put a Brew on. Got to pack then work then train to mums. Glad I had day off yesterday. Hope work isn't manic first...
Anyone got any plans for today?

Gigondas · 02/08/2013 07:56

Morning jchoc. hope too it meant good nights all round despite rashes, steroids and insomnia.

I am off to optician (mini gig done for my last pair of glasses so need cheap replacement while she is still in the attack glasses stage). Then packing and trying to keep big gig calm about her holiday.

Had thunder here but no sign of rain yet.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/08/2013 07:57

Happy Birthday wishes to sometimes !!
Pesky horrid rash ruby I guess the heat doesn't help.

Lilymaid · 02/08/2013 07:59

MAS I bought two Seasalt Handibands but I prefer Buffs. They are fine for round the house or at night but they are quite thick. Still not tried a scarf as sure I'd just look like an old fashioned cleaning lady.
Off to Suffolk for the weekend so hope weather is fine but not too hot.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/08/2013 08:12

have a lovely time lily

BetsyBoop · 02/08/2013 08:42

for anyone still comtemplating headwear choices, I found the video on this page quite useful for ideas to mix things up a bit.

ruby hope your sore bits are less ouchy today

lily have a lovely time

kitkat how are you doing today?

gigs hope you get your glasses and packing sorted without any stress

to everyone else

Copthallresident · 02/08/2013 09:08

Thundering here too gigs, funny that. Have a dog laid across my feet shivering. Don't you get overexcited now Grin

lily have a great time in Suffolk. I used to twist the ends of my scarf around my head, so I didn't look like a cleaner, but from the reaction of hotel security staff I may have had a resemblence to Bin Laden.......

ruby is there no improvement in your rash? You should keep nagging them, there must be something they can do other than deal with the pain. It is rotten just when you should be heading onwards and upwards away from chemo.

kitkat I had the effect of anything connected with chemo making me feel nauseous, in the end just being in the vicinity of the hospital was enough to make me feel sick, even when I was just driving past between chemos. I suppose it is a normal reaction, like when you have had an upset stomach and you go off whatever food upset it. I also went off any foods I had eaten immediately prior to or during a chemo session. It's your body saying avoid, this is really bad for you. I am quite sure the high sugar is far more likely to be poison /drug related than spontaneous development of diabetes, what are they like even mentioning it? I did find, especially with the wonky Oncy a tendency to be in denial about the effects of the poison they are giving you, of course my low white blood cell counts were the result of something I had done, not the poison. At one point they got all panicky about my calcium levels but they went back to normal, the chemo does mess with your body.

kk I hope you are alright this morning. In the heat we had here yesterday a 14 mile bike ride with a pack on your back would have been like a SAS yomp in Wales and equally dangerous. I kept trying to go out and do some gardening but it got to 37c on my garden thermometer and I was sweating places I didn't know sweated, even the bags under my eyes. I do hope you drank plenty of water last night and feel better after a sleep. Let us know.

Looks like after the thunderstorm it is going to be a shorts and vest sort of day rather than a pants day, I'm planting the autumn veg and some wildflower seeds I gathered in Yorkshire, especially a little micro sweet pea that is very pretty growing up through shrubs and perennials that have done their thing. So will be a satisfyingly creative and productive day....

Copthallresident · 02/08/2013 09:21

jchoc I am trying to think what my friends have done with their increasingly ratty and fed up DCs but really just they have just been there for them and enforced the boundaries of acceptable behaviour. It never ends, this parenting lark, does it? Most of Big Copts friends graduated this summer and apart from two with internships organised by Daddy they are joining the ranks of those who have moved back home and are not sure what to do next. Doing a module of a part time degree sounds a good plan, there are some really good ones out there.

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 02/08/2013 09:24

kitkat the anaesthetic cream doesn't numb it, just makes pain worse Confused

copt I've got an emergency GP appointment and will make much more fuss this time! I normally just agree to whatever they say but that hasn't worked well for me so I need to learn to speak up a bit :) your garden sounds amazing, enjoy your planting!

gigs hope you get glasses sorted :)

lily have a fab weekend, fingers crossed for the weather :)

kitkat I hope you're feeling better this morning

jchoc hope work is not too hectic

Waving to all, have a good day!

Don't over do gardening Copt or you will be on bad back list too.

Copthallresident · 02/08/2013 09:38

I'm now gardening fit gigs the annual bad back trauma is in Winter \spring when I go on a bulb planting binge when muscles not used to it. Now I am bristling with bend over muscles, just need to work on turning the batwings and spare tyre into muscles to match Grin

I am however getting the bulb and seed catalogue s Hmm it's like the shops being full of autumn clothes and next I'll be getting the emails inviting me to get ticket for the ice rinks at Christmas. They can all sod off IT'S STILL SUMMER

kitkat1967 · 02/08/2013 09:39

morning all - I've been awake since 4am but just the steroid affect not nausea so I'm OK about that. Usually I can get back to sleep after about 2hrs but not to be - will be an afternoon nap I think.
Feeling so much better today though - to be honest I think I had just got myself into a state about sickness yesterday Blush.

Glad to see that Topsy will not be gardening in her pants as that woudl be a worry.

Ruby - I second everyone else saying that you need to make more fuss - good news you have an appontment today.

malteserzz · 02/08/2013 10:06

Glad you're feeling a bit better Kitkat think it's normal to get worked up about it all sometimes
Ruby hope you get something that works
I slept well and then went back to sleep after dh went to work Smile

KurriKurri · 02/08/2013 10:09

Morning all Smile

Kitkat - sorry you are still feeling nauseous, - yours sounds very like what I had - just constant waves of nausea rather than actually being sick. Sometimes you feel as if it might help if you were sick! Your cocktail of drugs sounds the same as I had, - I found they worked to a certain degree, - but there are lots of other anti sick meds out there, and they work in different ways - some work on your stomach and some on your brain IIRC, and different ones suit different people. Eventually when I was having a stay hospital, they gave me cyclizine - which worked very well for me - but on the downside it also makes you very sleepy - so swings and roundabouts really. But do keep pushing to try something different if you don't feel your drugs are working.
Ginger, lemon and peppermint teas I found helped a little, - nurse told me to alternate the flavours, don't take the same one all the time, also some people recommend those pressure point wrist bands you get for sea sickness - they didn't work for me, but might for you Smile

Ruby - I feel so cross on your behalf that you are having to put up with all this soreness, - so completely horrible for you Sad I hope they can come up with some ideas for you asap. Hope the appointment goes well today - is your mum going with you for support? - Refuse to leave the surgery until they get this sorted. xxxx (((())))

Copt - I am Ok today - I felt pretty awful yesterday, - the cycle trip was madness on reflection - DD is very cross with me, as I have got burnt, she has sprayed me with after sun, and keeps tutting at me Sad When I was cycling I did think 'what if I collapse in a heap?' - it probably would have been about a hour before a car passed me, -as it is all quite country lanes.

Enjoy your gardening - I am very annoyed that my tomatoes which were doing really well and laden with fruit (not yet ripe) were badly damage din the hailstorm we had the other day. Some branches of fruit broke off when they were knocked over, and some of the fruit has been damaged just by being pelted with a hail. Bugger!
I found some old seed packets of Sweet Williams and wallflowers in my greenhouse, so shoved them in a seed tray and they have all germinated, so that slightly makes up for the tomato fiasco Hmm

Gigs - good luck with the packing and the trip - have fun Smile

MAS - I really like those handibands, I am thinking of getting one, but my hair is very short - I worry that I will look like John McEnroe Grin

love to all xx

KurriKurri · 02/08/2013 10:10

quiet country lanes - no idea what a quite country lane is Hmm

kitkat1967 · 02/08/2013 10:52

Forgot to say earlier thanks for all the reassurance re the glucose levels - there's nothing I can do so will ignore until the next blood test I think. Does sound like the onc was alone in his panic!!

malteserzz · 02/08/2013 12:23

Have made posh wig appointment for Monday give me a kick up the bum if I threaten to cancel please Grin

Copthallresident · 02/08/2013 12:48

KK We have a lot of quite country lanes around here, The have big quite country houses behind high hedges along them.

Ah! the heartbreak and triumphs of gardening.... Family still tease me that I actually cried after goondog wreaked havoc in my herbaceous border, but my 10 year old iceberg and variegated trachleosternum that I had nurtured up the trellising and my Delphiniums Sad. I still growl at him when I look at my bare fences even if Alfred Carriere is doing a sterling job of growing up them in his first year. This probably sounds like Cold Comfort Farm to everyone else Grin

Agh Computer says it is restarting in 1 min 59secs Shock better go
