Kitkat glad it all went ok and that dd was fine, am sure I will be asking for cold cap tips thank you. Did they say if they think it's working ok for you ?

BetsyBoop · 11/07/2013 18:06

good to hear it went well today kitkat fingers crossed no sickness this time. :)

kitkat1967 · 11/07/2013 18:08

Malt - she seemed quite pleased - I have had minimal hair loss and no patches and I think by now there would have been a fairly significant loss. I did ask and found out that every single use has to be correctly applied so any mistakes and it can all go - no matter what cycle.

I will keep going as long as it keeps working as it really was OK - I asked my husband to stay until I was comfortable (for me that is about 40 mins) and then sent him and DD away for the rest of the time.

kitkat1967 · 11/07/2013 18:24

thanks Betsy - I'm OK so far. Feel a bit whacked and mildly nauseous but nothing like last time - my fingers are crossed too

malteserzz · 11/07/2013 18:36

That's great on the hair front and on the nauseous front, fingers crossed for few side effects for you this cycle

BetsyBoop · 11/07/2013 18:40

taking of hair loss, I think mine is starting - when I run my fingers through my hair quite a few come out. No discomfort at all yet though, I had been told it is often quite painful as the hair follicles open. So I think I might be heading for a no2 at the weekend Grin (DH will do it as we have clippers, I usually cut DH & DS hair)

jchocchip · 11/07/2013 19:15

Malt - I went swimming soon after op. Made mistake of diving in the first time... Grin. Sorry can't keep up at the moment. (hugs) to everyone on treatment. Well done copt not murdering mrcopt and topsy hope they found the right place...
Dd2 has cleaned the kitchen and is making spag bol for tea :)

malteserzz · 11/07/2013 19:37

Just booked a hotel for tomorrow night on the way to our little trip, need to pack !

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 11/07/2013 22:12

Hi all, just popping in very briefly as am settling down to sleep in a mo. My sister is home tomorrow! Grin I've spent the evening making a banner!

I had my blood transfusion today and it has made SUCH a difference, so keep an eye on your iron levels while on chemo and if you start getting anaemic do push for a transfusion! Bit of a Hmm nurse though, started fiddling with my cannula and pulling it about as the blood was dripping quite slowly, then it came out of vein and went into my tissue so arm started puffing up, then she told me off and said I must've dislodged it while I was in the loo about half an hour earlier! Angry was quite annoyed though as she knew how much trouble they'd had getting a vein at chemo last week and she had said that was my only decent vein and had threatened me with having to use my inside wrist ones if it failed! Luckily a doctor came and put one in my elbow so avoided that. Anyway all is well that ends well and I was quite energetic all afternoon, managed a supermarket trip and caught up on lots of paperwork.

Also had a letter to say my genetic results are in, I can find out by phone or have a face to face appointment, so I'm going to make an appointment :) bit eek but I think I can handle all the info now.

I have skimmed the thread but very tired so will just send hugs to all and put some mini choc muffins and Ben & Jerry's half baked ice cream on the trolley and tiptoe off to bed :)

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 11/07/2013 22:14

Oh and my work contract ends tomorrow so I'm venturing up to the office for a couple of hours to say goodbye to everyone :)

trice · 11/07/2013 22:22

I made a cream tea for 8 of my mum's friends today. My tea loaf broke in half while I was getting it out of the tin but the Victoria sponge, scones with cream and jam and lemon drizzle cake all turned out well. I did egg & cress, smoked salmon and cucumber, ham and cheese and tomato tiny sandwiches without crusts all served on doilies. Then I went and had a nap while they all scoffed it down. I quite like making cakes. There is plenty left for the trolley.

I am reading an Inspector Montalbano story at the moment, I recommend them to anyone who likes a bit of light crime fiction. Very enjoyable.

I did the cold cap thing. I kept my hair throughout treatment. It does take a long time - but not as long as highlights. And it is about as uncomfortable.

kitkat1967 · 11/07/2013 22:27

wow Trice sounds like a fab tea - did you not manage to eat any of it? I will pinch some lemon drizzle cake - one of my favourites.

Glad the cod cap for you - did you have your hair cut or coloured at all during the process?

malteserzz · 11/07/2013 22:32

Ruby night night, grr to nurse, bet you can't wait to see your sister
Trice that sounds lovely :) I really fancy a nice afternoon tea, I've liked a few photos on Facebook of yummy afternoon teas at nice local restaurants but none of my friends have taken the hint yet lol

kitkat1967 · 11/07/2013 22:37

well done Ruby - are you all done with treatment now or do you need Rads?

topsyturner · 11/07/2013 22:54

Night night Ruby

Trice afternoon tea sounds fab , when do you want us round ???
Also there are a few Montalbano fans on here . His tv show kept us happy through quite a few chemo sessions Grin

I'm posting from bed as today's furling about with my nethers has exhausted me Grin
See you in the morning lovelies x

BetsyBoop · 11/07/2013 23:12

Qu for those that lost their hair - how did you handle the pity party?

Not at all bothered about losing my hair, but its now going to be v obvious to all and sundry whats going on shortly. As far as I'm concerned those I want to know already know and I'm dreading the gossip, nudges and tilted heads with the pitying looks in the school playground. :( Was hoping my hair might hold out until Thu am (my last school run til Sep) but its not looking likely now it's coming out in handfuls....

Night all from the soon to be baldy in the corner Grin

Gigondas · 12/07/2013 08:29

I perfected the Jacqueline o big sunglasses look and ignored people but actually I didn't get one head tilt from school mums ( aside from one loon), just offers of help and nice comments. That was worst bit but tbh after a week or so I got used up it and was more into varying my loon with scarves/wig.

Trice- tea party sounds yum. I obsessively watched then read every montalbano when on chemo so am a big fan too.

Topsy hope you got good nights sleep.

Malt enjoy your trip.

Ruby- glad you are feeling brighter but ShockAngry about nurse.

Had dodgy tummy so felt bit yuck last night and back feeling bit achy as think I slept wrong but it does seem less ouchy than it was. Off for dressing change then see therapist later. Hoping they let me off going in for dressing change til Monday as fed up with traipsing in. Fingers crossed.

malteserzz · 12/07/2013 08:30

Morning all
Betsy wonder if it will be like when we first told people and you get all of the sympathy and it's all you talk about but gradually you do get back to talking about normal things and being you again ? I don't know.
Sad today as its the last day of term, dd moving on to a new school which she's fine about but I'm gutted about missing the last day at my school. Physically I could go in but emotionally I just can't do it knowing I'm going to be off for so long

jchocchip · 12/07/2013 08:31

Morning Betsy. I didn't lose my hair but have new sunglasses and people are finding hard to recognise me ... Its very hot maybe a big floppy sun hat is the way to go?
Another warm day, off to work now, and then a long weekend.
Time for a Brew?
Has anyone got plans for today?

jchocchip · 12/07/2013 08:32

Morning malt xpost :)

jchocchip · 12/07/2013 08:35

malteserzz · 12/07/2013 08:36

Morning gigs x post, good luck with dressing change hope they leave you a bit longer

malteserzz · 12/07/2013 08:37

It's the x post party this morning !! Grin

trice · 12/07/2013 08:50

Malt - I had a chin length bob. It seemed to work ok.

I have new sunglasses too. I love tkmaxx.

Copthallresident · 12/07/2013 11:44

Very concerned about SuperTopsy being exhausted by the fossiking with her undercarriage, did they do it with Kryptonite? See, it's crap being a woman, superman never had to deal with that....

Betsy Betty I too found that people were tactfully silent on the hair, apart from the alpha trophy wife looking annoyed when it went all over her white sofas at the coffee morning where most of it came out. Especially tactful since I went for a full and voluminous wig as compensation for a lifetime of lank Olive Oil hair and I looked like a tranny. The fun starts when it grows back and you go commando, as in hair, not nethers. People went into full head tilting complimentary mode (the relief of not knowing what to say when confronted by wraith like slightly green baldy) How it suits you, What a lovely shaped head you have Hmm etc. Friends and I had bad attack of Cancer tourettes. "If you like it so much why don't you get yours cut" and had a good giggle comparing responses. Evil I know , but we had Cancer you know. Anyway you have all that to look forward to Grin < sings with air guitar, woah bald betsy, bam a lam>

KK You are a genius, now know what to get DH for birthday, old man string for his glasses! How do I feel about his being home. I think it will be fine in the summer, we have a big garden and there is a lot of stuff planned but normally I struggle with the onset of winter and I will be wanting to get back to my PhD writing and he will doubtless be attention seeking so I do see trouble ahead. I'm a great one for not worrying until it happens these days though, and he is so much more relaxed, and less tired, already which is good to see . Just focusing on finding him some interests other than work...... How is your DH and his computer game? Have you found an accommodation? And how is old lady dog? Goon dog is mortified he has a nasty rash on his bum and they have shaved it. He is now avoiding me whenever I get the bag out with the cotton wool and ointments. Also next door have a gorgeous lady puppy so he is working on storming her defences......

Off out to get DH birthday pressies. It is our birthday weekend, his tomorrow, mine on Sunday. In the 27 years we have been together he has never been in a good mood on my birthday Grin
