Grin at Lily being backwards. Smile

Yay for DS, MAS. Wine definitely in order. Was he pleased?? Smile

DS in bed reading. He's been mighty stroppy these past few days. I think he's stressed about whose class he'll be in next year. Thing is I know he's got the lovely teacher, but have been sworn to secrecy. We only know because DS is a governor. A whole week to go before the kids are told and DH still away he timed that well Hmm

Lilymaid · 10/07/2013 20:47

Being backwards means that I have to read all the handouts about treatment backwards too so very confusing. Onc says cold cap doesn't work but maybe it does work if you are the right way round?

malteserzz · 10/07/2013 20:55

Lily my onc said if I had the cold cap dh had to try it too so he could understand how bad it is ! I'm hoping it does work
Apprentice soon!

topsyturner · 10/07/2013 21:11

Oh my how I love this episode of The Apprentice !!!

Gigondas · 10/07/2013 21:18

I know.

It's just brill

kitkat1967 · 10/07/2013 21:41

loving Margaret

just had to say it

Gigondas · 10/07/2013 21:43

So do I kitkat

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 10/07/2013 21:53

Just bought looooads in Next VIP sale. Oops! Grin and loving the Apprentice. Loved the Rubik's cube.

kitkat1967 · 10/07/2013 21:54

Malt are you def giving the cold cap a try then?

I'll be having my second go tomorrow - think it must be like childbirth as I have mainly forgotten what it was like.

My DD is coming with me tomorrow - hope she is not traumatised. She told me tonight that she wants to be an emergency medicine nurse Shock

smee · 10/07/2013 22:00

Aw, how fab kitkat. Hope your DD's okay, but you too (obviously!) I seem to remember once I was actually through the door the chemo unit was very very boring.. Will be thinking of you and hoping the Emend does its stuff xx Smile

Malt, love the sound of your Onc saying your DH has to try the cold cap. Grin

malteserzz · 10/07/2013 22:02

Love Margaret too !
Ruby good for you, nothing like retail therapy !
Kitkat yes I want to cold cap, before I start I have to see the chemo nurse and have a tour round the unit and they said they'd sort it then, is it as bad as I've heard ?

kitkat1967 · 10/07/2013 22:05

Smee - it's like a posh house so very luxurious - def nothing scary. I have to be there for 4 hrs so she and DH will stay for a while and then go for lunch.
Strangely I am excitied (was last time) - I think it must be because it will be 1 more down Smile also interested in seeing how the new meds work. Did you see my post earlier that my onc has had chemo himself?

kitkat1967 · 10/07/2013 22:08

Malt - no was not awful - at first I thought I would pass out which the nurse said was from the pressure and weight not the cold but after 45 mins I could not feel it. This time she is going to sit me back more to see if that helps. After first 45 mins I just sat and watched a film on my tablet - no bother at all. Tis funny though as it has a chin strap and looks like a jockey hat of some sort Grin

topsyturner · 10/07/2013 22:09

Oh that was totally cringe worthy !
The Rubik's cube has to be one of my best ever moments though Grin

malteserzz · 10/07/2013 22:22

Thanks for that Kitkat am jealous of your big house hospital though ! The waiting room I was in today was a bit grim, lots of chairs all pushed together tightly and depressing posters on the walls. And those awful real life magazines, mainly Christmas specials!

kitkat1967 · 10/07/2013 22:34

ah Malt in my (temporarily) posh life I get the daily paper and County Life and Property magazines - not very interesting. Plus free tea and coffee and leather sofas and armchairs. However I generally don't have to wait as quickly get whisked through for treatment.
Also I've not seen anyone look at all ill - is that the case in other oncology departments?

How will I ever go back......

malteserzz · 10/07/2013 22:41

Ooh you are posh ! Lots of old people in my waiting room today
Hate being weighed I didn't look at the scales today !

kitkat1967 · 10/07/2013 22:43

see I find if they weigh you in kgs it means nothing - therefore doesn't count!

smee · 10/07/2013 22:57

My Onc department was brand new, with swishy barber style chairs that I could never get the hang of. Grin Always a mish mash of folk, but it was cheery and the nurses were genuinely lovely.

Kitkat, your Onc having had chemo must make a massive difference in terms of empathy. Smile

I was saying the exact same thing about kg to a friend who has to have an op for cervical cysts. She's ex-anorexic, so I do get why it's stressful to be weighed, but she cheered right up when I told her it would be in kilos as she doesn't get them either. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/07/2013 23:06

oh I loathe the being weighed bit- I tell them not to tell me,though I don't get kilos really...
Loved Claude and Margaret and the rubik's cube Grin
Ds v pleased with himself I think - he was remarkably laiod back about it all - I'd've been a bag of nerves.
Our waiting room has truly terrible paintings -done by local students.

OP posts:
trice · 11/07/2013 01:36

Our waiting room is always full and has a truly hideous quilt on the wall. Every time I'm in there I want to chuck it out of the window. It makes me irrationally angry. All the magazines are take a break or caravan world. Purgatory.

Glad you are home Emin. Good to hear Malt finally has a timetable.

I want a shiny headtilter in my garden. I really enjoy being the object of pity. Not.

BetsyBoop · 11/07/2013 05:53

The clinic area at my hospital was built jointly with Macmillan a couple of years ago, air con, very spacious, squishy sofas, free tea and cake the lot, tis very nice Smile

Where you get your chemo is in a different part (in the older part of the hospital next to pharmacy , makes sense - about 10min walk from clinic area) done up last year so very smart and clean, but a bit squished in the waiting area - strange leather-type sofa "benches" in there - but comfier than your average hospital plastic chair. ( not that I was sat on it for long - they are very organised - I went in 5min after my appt time and they apologised for keeping me waiting!) Again loads of free tea and sandwiches on offer. They also did the chemo in a private room with a 1-2-1 nurse, which surprised me as I had visions of communal room with lots of folks hooked up to drips sat around (as seen in the tv!)

kitkat thinking of you today as you start cycle 2. Fingers crossed for no sickness.

gigs how was the dressing change yesterday (did I miss your update?)

to everyone else (can't scroll back on phone...)

BetsyBoop · 11/07/2013 05:56

Oh all waiting rooms have rubbish magazines, but I always take my kindle now so not bothered!

notJenkins · 11/07/2013 06:29

Morning all from me. It is dd's birthday today. Always makes me emotional.

I seem to have ground to a halt and am having today off sick from work. There has been some shocking bad news twice at work this week. I am finding my remote controlled metabolism is whirring constantly since my meds were increased and I can't seem to switch off or sleep well. I feel like I should be tired but can't sleep. It is a weird feeling and getting a bit much so I am having a wee rest. When I asked the nurse specialist about it she did an audible shrug ( it was over the phone ) and said it will most probably be permanent. Helpful.

Had a phone call from the blood donor people asking if I would like to give blood as I had not done it for awhile. I just could not face explaining that I had cancer treatment so I just hung up and now feel terribly bad about it.

I am being crap and being all me me me and not mentioning anyone as I can't keep up with the thread but I am thinking of you all xxx.
