malteserzz · 09/05/2013 17:04

Brilliant Ned I'm so pleased for you GrinGrin

KurriKurri · 09/05/2013 17:04

yay Ned Smile - glad it is over with and all is fine.

Gigs - genetic thing does sound interesting, and IMO a good idea to arm yourself with all the info you can.

Am sure big Gig will be fine - she probably finds having to write stuff down a pain because her brain has raced ahead, and having to do the mechanical stuff like writing slows her down.

I'm glad Celeste has a following Grin she is a lovely cat.

Will pass on good wishes to DD, she is going for a cocktail type dress (but has to look OK with flats so she can pedal)

amberlight · 09/05/2013 17:15

Ned, yay!!!

Gigondas · 09/05/2013 17:22

GrinSmileGrinSmile For ned and for getting questions answered.

Yes genetics was fascinating - there is so much they are finding out , it really is a big step forward .

Gigondas · 09/05/2013 17:23

And that does sound just like big gig as she really can't be bothered if lost interest!

Brew And chocolate biscuit anyone?or is it Wine time?

Sending healing peace vibes to ash.

topsyturner · 09/05/2013 17:27

Great news Ned !
Celebrations tonight for you .

Didn't have power nap , HND came round and forced me to make coffee and chat Grin

Pig/dog is almost sitting on my lap in an attempt to get closer to the window .
He has been barred from his normal spot , as he makes the window filthy and he keeps barking at the neighbourhood serial killers cats .

He has however , offered to share some of his (extra mature) cheese with Old Lady Dog ...

topsyturner · 09/05/2013 17:28

Hmm tough decision Gigs
I'll try coffee for now Grin

KurriKurri · 09/05/2013 17:41

Old lady dog will do almost anything for cheese - even let me trim her moustache (only me though no one else Grin) she is very proud of her facial hair - if only I were so uninhibited Grin

My mother used to have an enormous collie/retriever cross who used to insist on sitting on your lap while your legs went steadily numb!

I would like chocolate biscuit, but our dinner is ready so I will have to eat that instead Sad

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/05/2013 17:52

I'm plonking some chollah on the trolley and some FAB ice lollies..
hooray for that ned - well done and have a Wine or two tonight !

topsyturner · 09/05/2013 18:04

I'll have the bread please Mas , bought some proper butter today that will go with it just lovely !

Cheese and any type of fish are pig/dogs very favourite things .
Oh and anything with gravy on it ...

What's everyone having for dinner ?
I'm starving and have nothing prepared .

malteserzz · 09/05/2013 18:04

In my ignorance I had to google challah ( don't tell dh I'm banned from google)
Pass the wine please I'll have a rose

coorong · 09/05/2013 18:17

hello all and well done ned - I think we should take credit when results are in our favour and blame someone else when they aren't ...
will join you for a Wine / beer.

I LOVE challah - was sent by grandmother to learn how to make it ...

AshokanFarewell · 09/05/2013 18:27

MAS I'm so jealous only yesterday I was moaning to my dad that nowhere sells chollah bread anymore :( Where did you find it? :)

ned woohoo! Brilliant news have been thinking of you all afternoon and wishing very hard :) are you doing anything to celebrate?

Thank you everyone for the good wishes, I'm feeling a bit happier this afternoon, managed not to cry so much! I just hate how here I'm Cancer Patient and it all feels very real and scary whereas at home I'm Ashokan who just happens to have cancer at the mo, it's a minor blip.

Bowel nurse came to visit and comment on my lack of stomach muscle tone, thanks Hmm she's looking forward to telling Dr W that I was right about infection though! Wish I could be there to see Grin

Still waiting hopefully for transfer to onc ward :)

topsy Dinner here was jacket potato with cheese and beans but had to scrape them off as Dr Happy has banned all dairy fruit and veg until I'm discharged Hmm. If I could've I would've had chickpea balti with yellow rice, sounds yummy.

Never a dull moment here, man in ward is seeing lots of monkeys in the garden outside the window!! Grin

KK cocktail dress sounds good, hope the concert goes well. Man sounds a bit of a nightmare changing at last minute!!

AshokanFarewell · 09/05/2013 18:30

coorong is it easy to make? :)

smee · 09/05/2013 18:36

Smile Smile Smile for Ned. Brilliant news!!

Ash, would love to be a fly on the wall when Dr W is told he was wrong. Grin Even with monkey man, am hoping the ward's better than the cupboard?

Genetics v.interesting Gig. When will you hear? I did it a while back and found it fascinating too.

Kurri, hope DD's arm holds up and she's dressed appropriately. Sounds mighty stressful..

MAS, good that you got through yet another blood test. Chollah a mighty good idea and I will definitely snaffle a Fab. Smile

So much on here, but am waving to all in a far from regal manner while slurping down one of MAS's fab lollies. Grin

jchocchip · 09/05/2013 18:36

Ooo yay for ned great news.

ash the man seeing the monkeys sounds interesting disturbed, hope you get admitted to nice ward soon. Dh put stew in earlier so I'm holding out for dumplings :)
Bit knackered tired after two long days so bunked off a bit earlier today - have wrestled the knitting machine back into its box so a bit of progress there. Wine later - going to try a run and maybe a swim first Grin

coorong · 09/05/2013 18:42

Ash - I don't remember it being difficult, the hard part was not eating the whole loaf when it came out of the oven .... Grin. There was a great bakery in Melbourne, Gleitzmans? which was crazy on Friday's with bagels etc, but you had to ORDER the challah.
I think (memory serves me), it was pretty standard bread recipe with a bit of honey, but having googled, I see it has eggs.
I also made bagels once which was fun, but really really fusssy.

And by way of complete contrast - I spent a whole Easter sunday making hot cross buns - in a wood oven, and were gone is 2 minutes....

malteserzz · 09/05/2013 19:26

Can I be nosey and ask how long ago you all were all dx, sometimes you all seem so calm and I'm still so panicky does it get easier?

Feel free not to answer Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/05/2013 19:30

I bought it at Waitrose - but I have made it lots of times and it's easy and v delicious- eggs and honey in it. T is always nagging me to make bagels - I love all breads and couldn't ever go carb. free !
Would love to see Dr W humbled Smile. Hope monkey man doesn't disturb too much ash

I was diagnosed first in 2011 and with mets last September.

Spero · 09/05/2013 19:34

I was diagnosed with lobular/ductal breast cancer in October 2012, it hadn't spread to lymph nodes but the tumour itself was big and a grade 3 so the clear recommendation was chemo and radio. I have just finished the chemo.

funnily enough I never panicked - I suppose it was just such a big thing panic felt redundant. And I am lucky that my familiy were very supportive and i had an insurance policy that paid out as I am not working much at the moment. I think I may have panicked if no insurance as am self employed.

coorong · 09/05/2013 19:36

diagnosed in Feb 13, mx in March, am 49, capricorn and love long walks on the beach Grin

i had dodgy breast two years ago tho - mammograms etc - but they weren't dodgy enough - tumour finally appeared this year

coorong · 09/05/2013 19:38

i panicked to start with, but my DH is very calm (his mother had breast cancer - twice in her 50s and 60s and very much alive and kicking) now very relaxed about it all. Will probably anticipate next years check up with anxiety

coorong · 09/05/2013 19:40

have any of your been gene tested?

amberlight · 09/05/2013 19:41

I was diagnosed in Jan 11 with HER2+ type of cancer, with lump of either 4cm or 2.3cm (depending on who you believe from my medical team) grade 3 which was right at the back of the boob. Had 4 lots of FEC chemotherapy, 4 lots of Docetaxel chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, then Herceptin for four months. Should have been Herceptin for a year but let's not go into what happened there and how this mild drug took a huge dislike to me Hmm Now definitely still alive, but because they had to whack it with everything in the cabinet, I've ended up with nerve damage. I'm used to it now.
I'm often calm, now. Especially between 6 monthly checkups. You'll see a whole new panicked Amber in September when it's the next one Grin
