Evening ladies (and Mr.Gigs Smile)

So sorry to hear your news. I had chemo and, while it wasn't a doddle in the park, it was definitely doable and I looked forward to the days when I didn't feel too bad and made the most of them.

KK, thank you for asking after me. DH had a further scan on Tuesday and met the consultant an hour later who had the interim results on his computer. He recommends a partial nephrectomy, remove the tumour and part of the kidney with clear margins. This is in case the bastard C returns in the other kidney. We were both feeling quite positive after meeting the consultant - a very upbeat man. However, on leaving the specialist nurse handed over a Macmillan booklet and I read it when I got home - it makes dire reading so I've hidden it from DH. Sad We're trying very much to carry on as normal. DH had meetings in London yesterday and next week is travelling to Liverpool for an overnighter. But, whilst he is being strong I find myself breaking down when I overthink things. I need a good talking to.

I'm sorry I can't keep up with all the posts, I can't concentrate on anything for longer than a minute or two. I haven't touched my knitting or my Kindle this week. Hopefully I will feel calmer after a few days off work and normal service will be resumed.

MrGigs · 03/05/2013 21:30

And jchoc, my dad told me that beer then wine is fine..so glug this tasty cote du rhone....

smee · 03/05/2013 21:36

Figgy, that sounds like the best news in the circumstances? if they think they can remove the tumour with clear margins, that's got to be early stages surely?? Means it's treatable and lots of kidney cancer's can be cured. I know a little about it as a friend had a tumour removed a few years ago. He's fine now and no sign of any spread still. Would a glass of Wine help? x

KurriKurri · 03/05/2013 21:40

Figgy - Sad that the leaflet has made you feel down - wise to hide it from DH, - I would go with your consultant's approach if he is upbeat, then he believes he can help your DH, - he will have all the relevant experience and know what is or isn't feasible, - things change so fast, some of these leaflets probably go out of date very quickly. (And by their nature leaflets will tend to be in more general terms, whereas your consultant has the exact pathology of DH's tumour to work with)

It must be very hard for you, maybe you will feel a little more relaxed once the surgery is out of the way?

How are the boys coping - have you told DS2 about it? - I know you were worried about how he would cope.

Anyway you and your family are very much in my thoughts, good luck to MrF for his op - is it fairly soon? xx

Figgyroll · 03/05/2013 21:42

Thank you Smee. Wine has been a regular feature this week.

Unfortunately the tumour isn't just 'in' the kidney - it is protruding about 3cm which makes me wonder if it has breached and the cells have gone into his system. They wont know till they have the results back from the lab. His pre-op appointment is 20th May and they hope to operate a few days later. Unfortunately it can't be done sooner as the consultant, who also does all these ops, is away for a fortnight. How very dare he!!! Wink

Gigondas · 03/05/2013 21:43

Figgy- I Agree with smee. Sounds like can remove it and I would hold onto what dr says. Those leaflets are to cover all bases . Wine From me too. You have had a horrible week so i am not surprised all seems too much.

Mr gig playing Tom jones in bed and singing - it's putting me off my Lakeland catalogue in my propped up Position hoping for a better night .

topsyturner · 03/05/2013 22:00

Figgy so good to hear from you .
Well it sounds like the surgeon has a fair idea of what you are dealing with . And hopefully there has been no further spread .

topsyturner · 03/05/2013 22:02

Gigs I advise you to roll the Lakeland magazine up , very tightly , and beat Mr Gigs soundly till he stops singing !!!

topsyturner · 03/05/2013 22:04

I am a light weight tonight .
2 glasses of wine and I'm home and ready to go to bed !
Sorry to disappoint those of you expecting Ozzy Osbourne style rampages out of me tonight Grin

Goodnight All .
Hope there's no need for a night shift tonight .

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/05/2013 22:14

Sorry I still havent learnt everyone's names I'm a bloody teacher I should be good at names ! But night night to all. Figgy I think you did the right thing with the leaflet x
I've had my sleeping pill so fingers crossed for a better night. Gone through it all this evening from dying to going back to work what a roller coaster ! Night !

smee · 03/05/2013 22:38

Think Gigs is wise, Figgy. If it's removable then that's got to be a plus, though obviously I'd be terrified if it was my DH too. Wish we could tell you it will be alright, but it does sound hopeful. xx

Night Malt. Hope the pills work. Smile

Sometimesiwonder · 03/05/2013 23:35

Figgy -like everyone says, if the doc is upbeat it is Good. Take heart and sleep well lovely. We can't fix it but we can sit with you while someone else does, and we will. X

Sweet dreams to all. Am watching the late night music progs on BBC4 and I swear Neil Diamond's gonads are going to be shredded in that outfit (not that I care, he's dire) (hard hearted)

KurriKurri · 04/05/2013 00:02

Sometimes - I'm watching Duets at the BBC - not sure which channel I'm on - so far we have had Elton and Kiki, Dolly and Kenny, and a pre surgery Cher singing with some blonde bloke (she must have ditched Sonny).

How can you not like Neil Diamond? - Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet Caroline da da daaaaaaaaaaa Grin

KurriKurri · 04/05/2013 00:09

Oh no - now it's a different programme and Macca is on doing the pointy finger thing Hmm

Sometimesiwonder · 04/05/2013 00:34

Hi KK

I think we're watching the same thing but I dipped out sooner. Thank God I missed Macca, he makes me want to commit murder. Prat.

And on that uncharitable note I bid you all sweet dreams. G'night. Xx

Gigondas · 04/05/2013 01:29

I have that duets on record but may skip it if has macca finger pointing.

So far managed some sleep -having quick Brew before heading back up . Hope malt having a better night.

Topsy-2 glasses seems like loads to me as been in drugs not Wine for ages. I wonder if mr gig will feel so chipper when kids are up first thing Wink.

Mas-the pics were so popular I think you were toasted in Wine Grin. Chinese sounds yum- I have promised take away for big gig today.

Gigondas · 04/05/2013 01:46

[[
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1747524-50-greatest-power-ballads-ever greatest power ballads]] look what I found -these are not power ballads . I have my judgey pants on - they would fail the test of "would ash sing this in her shower?" .

malteserzz · 04/05/2013 08:29

Morning all x
Slept much better last night dh said I was fast asleep when he came up at 1030 then woke briefly a couple of times but went through till 8. Woke up crying this morning as it hit me again though
We're off to Liverpool for the weekend with the kids which I think will be good as they'll be a distraction and we won't hand time to dwell. Bit worried about us all being in the same room if I can tearful but there's always the bathroom to sob in the shower
Appointment brought forward 1 hour on Tuesday, I was a bit worried why lol but just fitting people in they said.
Love to all what's everyone up to today ?

topsyturner · 04/05/2013 09:17

Morning All

Yeah for good nights sleep Malt
Don't worry about apt being changed , you'll get used to that . My surgeon is always changing on a whim (much to the anger of her admin staff) so she can dash off and perform surgery elsewhere !

Plans for the weekend ?
So far , bugger all !
I am posting (hang over free) from my bed .
I will have to get up soon though as the need to pee is strong !

topsyturner · 04/05/2013 09:18

And I shall just add

May the 4th Be With You ... Grin

malteserzz · 04/05/2013 09:20

Morning topsy I thought I'd killed the thread ! Maybe everyone's in bed

Am I allowed to swim or rather sit in the jacuzzi after my biopsy? I couldn't see why not but mum thought I shouldnt

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/05/2013 09:30

Perhaps not swimming or jacuzzi-ing just in case I think..
Have a lovely weekend malt

No plans here apart from the usual bit of cleaning, some work, hopefully time to plan my new shiny website ,walk to town and going to see my dad play in his concert band at a village fete.
